AYANEO Pocket Play debuts on Kickstarter: Playstation Phone is back!

AYANEO has introduced the AYANEO Pocket Play on Kickstarter. It’s a hybrid device that works as both a smartphone and a gaming handheld. The Pocket Play brings back a design that many gamers will find familiar because it uses a slide-out physical controller layout similar to the classic Sony Xperia Play which was dubbed as the Playstation phone.

The Pocket Play looks like a regular smartphone at first, but sliding the screen upward reveals a full set of physical controls. These include ABXY buttons, a D-pad, shoulder buttons, and dedicated gaming controls that allow users to play more comfortably compared to touchscreen-only setups. It is a modern take on a concept that blends daily phone use with console-style gaming.

AYANEO has not shared full hardware specifications yet, but early previews highlight a clean and compact design, a smooth sliding mechanism, and an interface built for both productivity and gaming. This device expands AYANEO’s growing lineup of portable Android gaming hardware after the Pocket S and Pocket DS.

The Kickstarter campaign gives early supporters a chance to secure the Pocket Play ahead of its commercial release, with more details on pricing and performance to be announced as production moves forward.

The AYANEO Pocket Play is shaping up to be an option for gamers who want a phone that doubles as a handheld console without needing snap-on accessories or external controllers. The campaign is now live on Kickstarter.
