Cloudpad 800w Review

Cloudfone has been known for making phones with large batteries. It’s really rare to find Android smartphone with large batteries especially on local branded phones and now they have brought us the first Android Intel tablet in the Philippines, the Cloudpad 800w. Aaaaand here’s my review.

The Cloudpad 800w has been out for a while now and I’ve been using it for more than a week and I can say that this is really one of the best local branded tablets that I’ve used. Not just because it’s powered by an Intel processor but the build quality and its feel was very nice.

I really like the aluminum feel of the Cloudpad 800w. The feel is very similar to the iPad Mini thanks to the aluminum back of the Cloudpad 800w but instead of metal, the sides and the buttons of the Cloudpad 800w is made up of plastic. Yeah, I wished they made it into a metal too. The weight of the Cloudpad 800w feels just right and I have no complaints with it.

The display of the Cloudpad 800w is a 7.85” XGA display. Yes, just the same size and resolution of the original iPad mini but I found the Cloudpad 800w’s display slightly inferior than the original iPad. Nonetheless, the viewing angles was good but the sunlight legibility wasn’t.

The Cloudpad 800w doesn’t have 3G connectivity but that’s acceptable but there’s one thing that I’m looking for that’s not available on the Cloudpad 800w, it’s missing an Micro HDMI port. I wished they’ve included that one so I can watch my favorite movies on my TV connected on the Cloudpad 800w.

Inside the Cloudpad 800w is a 2.0 GHz Dual-Core Intel Atom Z2580 processor and there’s 1 GB of RAM too. One of the features that you can boast in the Cloudpad 800w is the 32GB internal storage. I bet you could put a lot of apps and games in that tablet. Actually, I didn’t used a MicroSD anymore because I’m already happy with the large 32 GB of storage.

There’s a 4600 mAh of battery and it was able to last up to more than a day and a half of average use. That’s not actually bad, I thought the battery would drain much faster on this one since I’m new on the Intel Android tablets. There are 2 speaker grills at the back and yes; the audio quality of the tablet was fine. It didn’t exceed my expectations but it was quite loud and clear.

The Cloudpad 800w is running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and there are no words if this tablet would be running Android 4.4 Kitkat soon. Just like Cloudfone smartphones, there’s the Cloudfone and CloudStore app that are pre-installed in the tablet but this one comes with Kakaotalk but don’t worry you can uninstall that one.

I’m only irritated on the buttons below the tablet because they’ve included the screenshot and the volume button below and sometimes I accidently pressed those buttons when I’m playing on landscape and portrait mode.

I was surprised that the Cloudpad 800w was really comfortable to use and I didn’t experience lags and slowdowns in it. The performance of the Intel Atom Z2580 processor was quite good and it is almost on par with the Snapdragon 600 processor. FYI, the Intel Atom processor inside this tablet is even better than the MediaTek MT6589 Quad-Core processor.

I was able to play Real Boxing and Asphalt 8 at high settings without experiencing lags. However, I wasn’t able to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on this device due to compatibility issues but despite that, the gameplay experience on this tablet was awesome and again, I can compare the performance of the tablet to a Snapdragon 600 device. The resolution of the tablet might also helped increased the frame rates of some games because it needs less rendering. Oh and you know what, the Cloudpad 800w got a score of 22255 at Antutu. That’s actually pretty amazing for a tablet at its price.

The camera of the tablet is one of its weakest links. The Cloudpad 800w has a 5 MP rear camera that can record 1080p videos and there’s a 2 MP front camera. The rear camera produces mostly grainy shots while the front camera produces dark shots. The camera of this tablet really needs to improve.

Overall, I found the Cloudpad 800w easy to use. It’s one of my favorite local branded tablets thanks to the aluminum build and the fast performance. However, the XGA display and the camera of the tablet were really disappointing. I really wished that they could improve those features.
