Android N Developer Preview is out with Split-screen and more

Google have surprised us today by announcing the developer preview of their next version of Android, the Android N. The software haven’t been officially named but Android N got some interesting features including Split-screen support, new notifications panel, better Doze and optimizations on background apps called Project Svelte.

With Android N, you can now run two apps side-by-side or above the other in split-screen mode. Just like in the Samsung devices, the user can drag the divider to adjust the split-screen window of the app. This feature is great especially on Android tablets because you can have more productive and optimized spaces with a split-screen mode.

Google has also updated the notifications panel and it aims to bring a better and efficient notification panel. You can now reply directly from the notifications and it will show you even more information than ever before.

Doze is one of the best features of Android 6.0 and it will be better with Android N because every time the screen is off for a period of time, the device will be able to save more battery with new and better Doze.

And probably one of the best features of Android N, the Project Svelte. This feature minimizes the RAM usage by the system across all Android devices. Project Svelte focuses on optimizing the way apps run in the background to make the user experience fast, and context aware.

There are no word regarding the official name of Android N (But I guess it will be Android Nutella) but if you’re a developer and you want to get involved and try out Android N then you’re in luck because the beta will go live on g.co/androidbeta soon. The supported devices are Nexus 5x, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus 9G, Nexus Player, and Pixel C.
