Samsung has just launched their newest mid-range smartphones in the Philippines and honestly, I did love the specifications that we are getting in here as we finally got a Snapdragon 720G on the smartphones and then there’s the up to 120Hz display on the smartphones but would you love it? Well, we’re hoping that you can answer that after you read our hands-on and first impressions of the smartphone below.
Matte Haze Finish
The Samsung Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 follows the suit of the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy Z Fold2 by introducing a matte finish at the back and for the Samsung Galaxy A-series, they’re not using glass and instead, they’re using plastic which is why the smartphone doesn’t feel as premium as the Galaxy S Series or the Note series.
However, the smartphones does feature a minimal camera housing which is why the camera of the smartphones are less annoying. Unlike the Galaxy S21 series, the camera module of this one isn’t connected to the sides of the smartphone.
Another cool addition to the smartphone is the IP67 water resistance which we havent’ seen before in the A-series smartphones and thankfully, we still got here a headphone jack on both A52 and A72 smartphones.
Still a vivid display
Samsung still doesn’t fail to impress us with its Super AMOLED display and just like before, the colors that we’re getting in here are bright and also vivid. There’s no curve display in here but there’s a high refresh rate on this one as we got here a 90Hz refresh rate on the Galaxy A52 and A72 and then there’s the 120Hz on the A52 5G. Unfortunately, we were only able to test out the A52 and the A72 but surely, I did like the 90Hz refresh rate on this one as we haven’t seen a higher than 60hz refresh rate on their A-series smartphones.
In our usage of the smartphone, we would’ve liked the display even more if all of them packs a 120hz refresh rate and unfortunately, this isn’t the same Dynamic AMOLED 2x that we’re seeing on the flagship series smartphones so you’ll definitely notice the difference between the smartphones.
A better camera!
The Samsung Galaxy A52 and A52 5G features a quad-camera setup with a 64MP main camera + 8MP ultra wide + 5MP macro and 5 MP depth while the A72 loses the depth sensor and instead use a telephoto lens for 30x zoom.
Well, the photos that we got were quiet sharp. it’s better than I expected actually but I believe the colors are a little bit saturated but of course, we could still get better photos once the unit is out in the market. Check out the photos that I took using the smartphones.

Verdict
Overall, I appreciate that the smartphone has added more features including IP67 nand a more competing hardware inside including a Snapdragon 720G processor on the Galaxy A52 and A72 and a Snapdragon 750 5G on the A52 5G. However, the change to matte haze finish doesn’t feel premium to me and honestly, I would go for the Galaxy A71’s glossy plastic back instead of this one.
