7 ways AI can help parents teach kids responsible online behavior

0

As children today navigate the digital landscape, parents face the challenge of ensuring their kids become responsible digital citizens. Fortunately, technology and artificial intelligence (AI) offer invaluable tools to help parents safeguard their children’s online and real-life safety.

Here are seven ways tech and AI can assist parents in raising digitally responsible kids, making parenting a little easier.

1. Maximizing Generative AI for Engaging Learning

Teaching kids about internet safety can be more interesting and interactive with the help of generative AI. Google’s conversational chatbot, Bard, can provide a plethora of fun and creative ideas to make learning about internet safety enjoyable. From book recommendations and interactive online games to conversation starters and additional tips, Bard offers endless suggestions to engage children in the topic.

2. Monitoring and Limiting Online Interactions

Tech tools empower parents to protect their kids from potential risks by monitoring and filtering content based on their age. Google’s Family Link allows parents to track and control online activity, including text messaging and social media, while TikTok’s Digital Wellbeing features enable remote management of a child’s TikTok account. Additionally, Circle Home Plus, a device and subscription service, allows parents to manage internet access, set time limits, and apply content filters across all devices in their home network.

3. Teaching Empathy Through Real-Life Scenarios

PLDT Home and Google’s Be Internet Awesome video series, featuring characters like Sam and his AI friend Robo-berto, present engaging adventures that teach kids how to be smart, alert, strong, kind, and brave online. These stories and songs impart valuable lessons on digital responsibility, such as the consequences of forwarding posts or engaging in cyberbullying. Through relatable situations, children learn to empathize and make responsible choices online.

4. Cultivating Critical Thinking Skills

AI can help raise critical thinkers by analyzing web content, identifying inappropriate websites and social media platforms, and detecting signs of cyberbullying. It can assist children in evaluating the credibility and authenticity of information they encounter online, fostering a healthy skepticism. With AI’s support, kids can navigate the digital landscape with discernment and recognize manipulated media.

5. Enhancing Location Tracking and Safety

AI-powered GPS and geolocation technologies provide parents with real-time updates on their children’s whereabouts. Wearable devices and smartphone apps equipped with AI algorithms enable geofencing capabilities and alert parents if their child ventures beyond predetermined safe zones. These tools offer peace of mind and enhance safety.

6. Strengthening Home Security

AI-enabled surveillance and security systems allow parents to monitor their homes remotely. Advanced cameras and algorithms analyze video feeds, detect unusual behavior, and send alerts for potential dangers, like an open door or unusual activity. These systems offer a layer of security and protection for the entire family.

7. Monitoring Health and Development

Wearable devices and smartphones equipped with AI technology enable the monitoring of vital signs and health parameters. Irregularities in sleep patterns, heart rate, and activity levels can be detected and alert parents to potential health issues. AI algorithms can also analyze behavior videos or recordings to provide insights into a child’s cognitive, motor, and social development. Scheduling apps powered by AI simplify managing school routines and homework, streamlining the family’s daily schedule.

PLDT Home is committed to keeping children safe online while providing access to information that supports their education, well-being, and growth. These efforts align with the PLDT Group’s commitment to achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 16, which promotes just, peaceful, and inclusive societies and aims to end abuse, exploitation, trafficking, violence, and torture against children.

Nothing Phone (2) First Impressions

The Nothing Phone (2) is the 2nd generation smartphone from the company and just like before, it features a unique design as it comes with a transparent back and also a brand new Glyph Interface at the back which separates the smartphone among the pack in the industry. But is it a worthy upgrade? Well, here’s our first impressions

Nothing Phone Philippines

A unique Glyph Interface

Nothing Phone Philippines

The biggest and most unique thing of the Nothing Phone (2) is its design. It’s one of the best-looking smartphones out there especially if you’re a fan of see through back design of the smartphone and unlike other smartphones, this one looks cleaner and a lot better.

Nothing Phone Philippines

But the thing that makes this smartphone unique is the Glyph Interface and honestly, we really like how they approach to this one as the Nothing Phone (2) now features more Glyphs at the back which now supports third party integration and other apps as well.

A slight aesthetic change

There are slight changes on the smartphone. But first, let me just tell you that the dual lens camera of the smartphone looks perfect with that glyph and then there’s the flat sides as well along with a flat display.

Nothing Phone Philippines

Going back to the changes, the major aesthetic change that I felt on the smartphone is that the Nothing Phone (2) packs a slightly curved back and honestly, it barely improved the ergonomics of the smartphone. Below, there’s the USB-C port and also the speaker grill and card tray.

Nothing Phone Philippines

Nothing Phone Philippines

Nothing Phone Philippines

On the front, the smartphone does still look beautiful with that UI but this time, the selfie camera of the smartphone is moved to the middle of the 6.7″ OLED FHD+ display.

Nothing Phone Philippines

Just a beautiful and unique UI

Nothing Phone Philippines

The Nothing OS 2.0 is one of the best skin that I’ve seen on a smartphone as the UI of the Nothing Phone (2) pairs perfectly to the hardware design of the smartphone. It also comes with widgets and other customizations so you can have a home screen that looks perfect on the smartphone.

Nothing Phone Philippines

Better hardware inside

As for the hardware inside, the Nothing Phone (2) now comes with a way more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor inside along with an up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It might not be the best processor out there in the market but boy, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is still one of the best and most powerful processor that you can get on a smartphone and games would just be a piece of cake on this one.

Nothing Phone Philippines

When it comes to the camera department, the Nothing Phone (2) packs a better camera thanks to the 50MP main + 50MP ultra-wide camera setup unfortunately, only two rear lenses here on the smartphone and then there’s the 32MP Selfie camera.

Nothing Phone Philippines

Overall, the Nothing Phone (2) now has a more interesting hardware inside as this one uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series chipset and of course, there’s a better hardware overall as well. The main selling point of the smartphone is the Glyph Interface and it’s unique and we do love that feature on the smartphone.

DSC

If you want a smartphone that really stands out that packs a pretty decent premium hardware then the Nothing Phone (2) might be an interesting choice for you.

Apple reportedly set to bring OLED technology to 2024 iPad Pro models

0

Apple has often taken a cautious approach when it comes to adopting OLED technology in its devices. While some iPhone and Apple Watch models have embraced OLED and its advantages, Apple’s iPad and MacBook lineups have yet to incorporate this display technology. However, according to a recent report by research firm Omdia, it appears that Apple’s 2024 iPad Pro may be the first to receive OLED panels.

OLED Coming to iPad Pro

The report suggests that Apple is on track to introduce OLED technology in its 2024 iPad Pro models, specifically the 11-inch and 13-inch variants. Production of these models is said to begin in the first quarter of next year. Apple is expected to utilize low-temperature multi-crystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panels, which are considered the pinnacle of current OLED technology. This indicates that Apple will likely opt for top-of-the-line OLED displays for its iPad Pro lineup, especially since it caters to professionals and demanding users.

Compared to Apple’s current Mini LED LCD panels used in iPad Pro models, OLED offers several benefits. First and foremost, OLED provides perfect blacks and per-pixel light control, resulting in exceptional contrast and HDR capabilities. Additionally, OLED displays are known for their power efficiency, and Apple may leverage this technology to potentially achieve even higher brightness levels. The inclusion of LTPO technology is expected to enable dynamic display refresh rate adjustment, further enhancing power savings.

While the report brings good news for iPad Pro enthusiasts, it reveals a potential delay in bringing OLED panels to MacBook models. Previously rumored to arrive by the end of 2024, OLED adoption in MacBooks is now expected to be postponed until 2027, according to the report.

Implications and Expectations

The introduction of OLED technology in iPad Pro models is a significant development for Apple enthusiasts. The benefits of OLED displays, such as superior contrast, HDR capabilities, and power efficiency, are likely to enhance the overall viewing experience. Apple’s commitment to delivering high-quality displays is well-known, and OLED represents a natural progression for the company.

As for MacBook users, the delayed adoption of OLED panels may come as a disappointment. However, it is worth noting that Apple often takes a cautious approach in implementing new technologies, prioritizing quality and performance. While the delay may be disheartening, it suggests that Apple is taking the necessary time to ensure a seamless integration of OLED technology in its MacBook lineup.
