Huawei P20 Lite Review

4

The Huawei P20 is generally praised for its elegance, premium, and build quality. I actually fell in love with the Huawei P20 as I saw it because of its sexy design. But if you’re into midrange smartphones then the Huawei P20 Lite is for you. Interested? Check out our review of the smartphone below.

Design and Construction

The Huawei P20 Lite shares the DNA of the Huawei P20. It has a glass back and front with a very premium feel when you hold the smartphone. On the front, you get the sleek FullView 2.0 Display with a little notch at the top and a small chin below and at the back, you can find the dual lens camera in vertical along with the round fingerprint scanner in the middle.

The review unit that we got was the black one but the blue really is dazzling and attractive. Actually, the Huawei P20 Lite is one of the stylish and probably has the best looks in its price range. There’s the USB Type-C below along with the 3.5mm audio jack and also the speaker grill. The quality of the speaker of the Huawei P20 Lite is good but not great. I’m just satisfied with it.

Unfortunately, the Huawei P20 Lite doesn’t have a triple sim card tray but most of you will be just fine with its 64GB Internal Storage. The smartphone’s fingerprint scanner is fast and I really had no problems with and if you’re not into that, the face unlock of the Huawei P20 Lite will work fine and fast. Actually, you won’t even see the lock screen of the smartphone anymore because it’s really fast.

Display

The Huawei P20 Lite features a 5.84-inch Full HD+ display with a 19:9 display aspect ratio. It looks really good especially with its rounded corners and despite having that display size on a smartphone, the Huawei P20 Lite does feel handy because of thin bezel and a small chin.

The display of the smartphone does really look good, the colors were great and the viewing angles of the smartphone is really fine. I didn’t have any problems with the notch of the smartphone as most apps won’t use the notch and it just blackens out when you open the apps and games. But if you’re really annoyed with that, you can turn off the notch of the smartphone at the settings.

Software

The Huawei P20 Lite runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0. It’s a heavily customized UI and most of the elements in its UI are from Huawei. As expected, the smartphone will come with a lot of apps and you won’t actually use some of them. But don’t worry as you can uninstall most of the applications that are pre-installed on the smartphone.

There’s no app drawer on the smartphone too but if you’re used to that then there will be no problems. Personally, I’m just fine with its UI but if you don’t really like the non-vanilla look of the interface then you better download some launchers at the Play Store.

Performance

The Huawei P20 Lite is running on Kirin 659 chipset and unfortunately, there’s no AI on this one but that’s already expected. This isn’t a new chipset as this one was already seen in the Huawei Nova 2i but despite its age, the performance of the Huawei P20 Lite doesn’t disappoint as the smartphone can run most games without problems.

This might not be the most powerful chipset at its price range but it is able enough to run games at medium settings and low settings at more demanding ones. But don’t worry because this smartphone can run the most popular Battle Royale games like PUBG Mobile without problems. Actually, I was even able to play NBA 2k18 on the smartphone on medium settings.

On Antutu, I got a score of 88361 which is pretty fair for its hardware. Not complaining about it as it was my expected Antutu score for the smartphone.

Battery life

The Huawei P20 Lite performed well in the battery department. I was able to use the smartphone the whole day without asking for a charger. Yes, if you’re just a casual gamer then the Huawei P20 Lite will be just enough for you. When it comes to charging, you could also have a faster charging time because the Huawei P20 Lite supports fast charging. But of course, you have to use the included fast charger to utilize that. In PC Mark, I got a score of 6 hours and 47 minutes. Weirdly enough, I got a better real-life battery life better than the benchmark

Camera

The Huawei P20 Lite doesn’t have a Leica lens on this one but I was really happy with the results that I got with this smartphone. The Huawei P20 Lite features a 16-megapixel rear camera with 2-megapixel for depth sensing. Again, there’s no AI in here so there’s no amazing scene detection on this smartphone, unlike the Huawei P20.

Most of the shots that I took using the smartphone were good and even at lowlight, the shots that I took were better than I expected. I’m quite happy with what I got with the Huawei P20 Lite. Check out some of my shots below.

The front camera doesn’t disappoint too as my selfies on this smartphone looks really well and it has really good details and colors.

Verdict

The Huawei P20 Lite is a pretty good midrange smartphone. The Kirin 659 Processor inside the may not be as powerful as the Helio P60 or the Snapdragon 636 processor but it’s able to run most games without problems. I’m pretty happy with the results that I got with its battery life as the smartphone can a last a day of use.

The Huawei P20 Lite might not have the Leica branding but the camera of the smartphone is really well and it can take really good shots under any conditions.

The Huawei P20 Lite will be available this April 28, 2018, for Php15,990.

Red Alert Online is Coming to Mobile

0

Red Alert 2 is one of the best games that I’ve ever played. It’s a real time strategy and the game pits against Soviets vs. the Allies in an alternate history timeline. The game is still available for download on Origin and it has been more than a decade but the game is still popular.

And recently, Chinese publisher Tencent has just announced that they’ll be bringing Red Alert Online to both iOS and Android. We still have no idea about the gameplay or the mechanics of the game but I’m betting that it will be the same on Clash of Clans.

In the trailer above, it showed some of the familiar elements from the game including the Psychic Tower of Yuri, Kirov Airships, and more. At the end of the trailer, Yuri was shown however there were no clues about how the game will work.

To be honest, if the game will be just banking on the name of the game and not the quality of the game then I’m pretty sure that the game wouldn’t last that long. Hopefully, they could release the game soon with fun mechanics and gameplay.

ASUS Unveils the Zenfone Max Pro M1 in India

0

ASUS has recently launched a new smartphone that belongs in the Zenfone Max M1 series, the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1. The smartphone features a 6-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+. Not only that, since the smartphone belongs in the Zenfone Max series, the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 also have a 5000mAh battery. The best part? It’s using the Snapdragon 636 SoC which is the same chipset that is being used by the ASUS Zenfone 5.

ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 Specs

  • 6.0-inch IPS display with FHD+ Resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Processor
  • 3GB/4GB/6GB  RAM
  • 32GB/64GB Internal Storage expandable via MicroSD
  • 13-megapixel rear dual lens f/2.2 camera with LED Flash
  • 8-megapixel front f/2.2 camera
  • Dual SIM
  • LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS
  • Face Unlock
  • Fingerprint Scanner
  • 5000mAh Battery
  • Android Oreo

The most interesting part of the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 is its price. The smartphone will be available for Rs. 10,999 (Php 8,668~) for the 3/32GB variant while the 4/64GB is priced at Rs. 12,999 (Php10,194~).

This is really interesting as the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 is running on a Snapdragon 636 Processor which is really powerful enough for most apps and games, a large 5000mAh battery, and a really affordable price for its hardware. Not only that, the smartphone will also be running on Android Pure which means that the smartphone is clean and it will not run on ZenUI! It’s powerful, fast, and affordable!

If ASUS Philippines can price the Zenfone Max Pro M1 here in the Philippines at almost the same price in India, then I’m pretty sure that this smartphone would be one of the most powerful at its price range.
