#SeeThePhilippinesUpClose with the ASUS Zenfone Zoom

0

A few weeks ago, ASUS Philippines has sent us an ASUS Zenfone Zoom. It’s the company’s first smartphone to have an optical zoom and not just that, this is also the world’s thinnest smartphone with optical zooming. The smartphone doesn’t just have a powerful camera, it also has powerful specs. The smartphone actually has a 2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Atom processor, 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.

Not only that we got to try out the ASUS Zenfone Zoom, we also got a chance to see the newest ambassador of ASUS Zenfone Zoom, the famous photographer Shaira Luna. She also shared her experience with the smartphone and she gave us tips on how we can capture perfect photos for the media contest.

Here are some of the photos that we took using the ASUS Zenfone Zoom.

When using the ASUS Zenfone Zoom, I noticed that it would be better if I use the manual mode because it produces better photos and less noise on most shots. The 3x Optical Zoom was also really helpful especially when the object that I want to shoot is too far away from me. The good thing about it? It doesn’t lose any details and the quality is still good.

We’ll be posting a review of the ASUS Zenfone Zoom soon so better watch out. The ASUS Zenfone Zoom is now available for P26,995.

WD My Passport Ultra 3TB Review

0

It’s really hard not to have an external hard disk these days especially if you love saving your media files but your laptop cannot handle those large file sizes. Yeah, I mean we now have 4K videos and high-res photos while your smartphone, tablet, or your laptop have a really small storage. So recently, we just tried out and review the WD My Passport Ultra 3TB.
WD My Passport Ultra (5 of 5)
The external hard disk is purely made out of plastic and there are no surprises with that and compared to most external hard drives at this generation, the WD My Passport Ultra 3TB is a little bit thick. The external hard disk is protected by a glossy plastic shell which made the external hard disk easy to look at.
WD My Passport Ultra (2 of 5)
The WD My Passport Ultra comes with a USB 3.0 to Micro USB 3.0 connector on the side and of course, Micro USB 2.0 would still work on this one if you wanted to use that but don’t expect fast speeds on that one.

Software

The WD My Passport Ultra comes with a WD Drive Utilities. With this software, you could do a diagnose of the My Passport Ultra 3TB and check if there are performance issues on the hard disk.

You could also set a sleep timer for the My Passport Ultra when the user wants the hard disk to go into a sleep mode when it is not in use. Also, there’s a utility that lets you permanently erase your data on the drive.

If you want your WD My Passport Ultra secured, you can also set a password for the external hard disk. And in case you forgot your password, don’t worry because you could set a password hint for your My Passport Ultra. And yes, it has a 256-bit hardware-based data encryption.

Performance

We tested the WD My Passport Ultra on a Retina Macbook Pro and I compared it to my Seagate Plus 2TB USB 3.0 external drives.

I used Crystalmark for testing the speeds of both external drives and I got these results

Basically, the WD My Passport Ultra got faster speeds and it is a better option than the Seagate external hard drive that we tested.

Verdict

WD My Passport Ultra (3 of 5)
The WD My Passport Ultra is not the best looking external hard disk out there but it features a pretty good performance and some built-in software that lets you encrypt the hard disk, add a sleep timer, and even permanently erase its files inside. So do I recommend it? yeah, this one is a pretty good external hard disk.

Project Ara modular smartphones arrives in 2017

0

Project Ara is one of the most exciting projects of Google and recently, the project has come back from the dead and it shows a new different product and frame for Project Ara. Unlike the Project Ara before, the base components such as the CPU, GPU, antennas, sensors, battery and display which means that you still have to upgrade your Ara frame if you want a better processor and display.

However, you could still upgrade the Project Ara’s speaker, camera, additional sensors, and even an additonal display. It’s really a bummer that we cannot upgrade the CPU and its battery anymore but I hope that Google can do something about that and give us an option to not to buy another frame if we need to upgrade the processing power of the Project Ara smartphone.

The Project Ara will arrive next year for consumers while the developer edition is due out this year.

Google Assistant is a smarter and better voice-based assistant

0

Google I/O is happening right now in California and they’ve just announced the Google Assistant. The tool is similar to Google Now but it has been improved and you can now have a conversation type of communication with Google. The Google Assistant is now smarter and it can also understand your context unlike other platforms. So how does it work?

For example, you ask Google “What are the movies at the nearest movie house?” but if Google gave you a not-so-child-friendly movies and you want a more child-friendly movie, just say “I’m bringing my kids tonight” with saying “Ok Google”

Basically, Google has become even smarter.
