OnePlus 8 Launched, Priced at $699

The COVID-19 pandemic ain’t stopping OnePlus from launching its latest OnePlus 8 series of smartphones. The OnePlus 8 Pro took the stage by becoming the brand’s first-ever flagship starting at $899. You can read more about the OnePlus 8 Pro here. Alongside the Pro is the vanilla OnePlus which boasts a similar spec to that of its bigger brother but won’t break the bank.

The OnePlus 8 is a direct replacement of the OnePlus 7T. It boasts the same 90Hz refresh rate but in a new and improved 6.55″ AMOLED display which supports HDR10/10+ content, 1100nits of peak brightness and a color accuracy rating of JNCD 0.4. The  FHD+ cinematic 20:9 screen immerses users in movies, games and in productivity as well. The OnePlus 8’s display was able to match 10 of DisplayMate’s performance records resulting in an exceptional A+ rating for the brand.

Cameras are also a strong point for the new OnePlus 8. It has a triple camera setup helmed by the 48MP Sony IMX586 main sensor. It also has a unique 480 Image Signal Processor which processes four times more pixel resulting in clear shots taken by the OnePlus 8. Rounding up the OnePlus 8’s camera setup is a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 166-degree view.

Performance-wise, the OnePlus 8 sports the same Snapdragon 865 processor with the X55 5G Modem-RF System similar to the flagship OnePlus 8 Pro. However, unlike the OnePlus 8 Pro, the vanilla OnePlus 8 is using LPDDR4X RAM instead of LPDDR5 found on the former. The phone also comes in either 128GB or 256GBs of UFS 3.0 storage. Powering the flagship processor and high refresh-rate display is a 4300mAh battery with Warp Charge 30T support – charging the phone to 50% in just 22 minutes.

Despite the jam-packed specs of the device, OnePlus managed to get the phone to only 180grams and just 8mm thick, making it one of the most compact and lightweight 5G phones available to date.

Pricing and Availability

Similar to its Pro counterpart, the OnePlus 8 comes in the new Onyx Black and Glacial Green colorway. There’s also an Interstellar Glow colorway which is only available in the 12GB/256GB configuration. The OnePlus 8 series starts at $699 or roughly Php 35,000 for the 8+128GB variant while the Interstellar Glow sporting 12+256GB is priced at $799 or roughly around Php 40,000.
