Tokyo Game Show 2026 officially started today, September 17, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
The annual gaming expo in Japan is celebrating its landmark 30th anniversary with its longest-ever five-day run.
Running from September 17 through September 21, the event is organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association in partnership with Nikkei Business Publications and Sony Music Solutions.
Record 1,138 Exhibitors from 53 Countries and Global Presence
This year marks a major milestone as a record 1,138 exhibitors from 53 countries and regions gather across 3,999 exhibition booths.
International participants make up the majority with 598 overseas companies alongside 540 domestic Japanese exhibitors.
The global footprint includes 15 participating territories across Asia and Oceania, with game developers and studios from the Philippines actively taking part alongside teams from Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
Expanded Indie Showcase, AI Pavilions, and Hardware Zones
Indie gaming continues to thrive on the show floor, anchored by 292 exhibitors in the dedicated Indie Game Area and 78 curated titles in the Selected Indie 80 showcase.
Attendees can explore 284 booths in the General Exhibition zone, alongside specialized spaces including 53 gaming hardware showcases, 14 AI technology exhibits, and 10 competitive esports arenas.
Business networking has also expanded significantly with 251 booths dedicated to the Business Meeting Area and 134 companies occupying the Business Solution space.
Venue Operations, Capacity Controls, and Age Restrictions
Organizers expect more than 300,000 visitors over the course of the five-day expo.
To manage foot traffic, real-time entrance sensors will monitor capacity across Halls 1 through 11 and temporarily redirect crowds when designated zones become full.
The expo hosts Business Days on September 17 and 18, before opening to the general public from September 19 to 21. Visitors planning to try adult-rated CERO Z game demos must present valid identification confirming they are 18 years or older.
