UP Diliman Film Student wins VAC 29 Grand Prize

The 29th Visual Arts Competition of Directories Philippines Corporation and PLDT has just ended at SM Megamall on March 24 and Jean Cheryl Tagyamon’s “Sa May Kanayunan” was awarded the grand prize. Jean Cheryl Tagyamon is a 20-year old AB Film student at University of the Philippines-Diliman.

 

The winner used a Canon EOS 60D DSLR camera and the photo features a silhouette of a young boy with a salakot, checking his mobile phone at sunset in the countryside of San Miguel, Bulacan. Tagyamon’s entry got a total of 86,449 points on the basis of judges’ scores (90%) and of percentage of online votes (10%) and she won a PhP100,000 in cash, a Canon EOS 700D 18-55 IS STM DSLR Camera and a VAC 29 Grand Prize Trophy.

 

The second place was awarded to Sheila Mae B. De Vera of Polytechnic University of the Philippines with “Grandpa Meets the DSLR” while “Fortress of History” by Christopher C. Paredes of De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde won the third prize.  “Sa Bukid ni Lola” by Charlene Del Valle of Lyceum of the Philippines-Laguna won the People’s Choice Award.

 

There were 728 qualified entries from 77 high schools, colleges, and universities worldwide. The VAC 29 organizers were heartened to see participation from schools nationwide. Some of the VAC 29 Finalists would also get broad exposure through the tourism campaigns of DOT-PTB
