Vietnamese carrier Viettel develops their own 5G tech

Vietnam has been strongly opposed to Chinese 5G tech due to the territorial disputes with China so Viettel, a telecommunications service provider owned by state, decided to create and developed their own 5G technology for their country. However, experts are skeptical about it.

Viettel is controlled by Vietnam’s military and their engineers had developed the radio base station involved after just six months of work and according to company, they’ve “officially mastered 5G network technology”

However, experts are skeptical about it as it is not easy to develop a 5G network overnight and it cost a lot of money to fund such research. Not only that, it would be hard for Viettel to sell its infrastructures due to patents from Qualcomm, Huawei, and Ericsson.

Currently, only five companies are able to produce 5G network and these are Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, Samsung, and ZTE and with Viettel, they’re currently the sixth company to do so.
