ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo Hands-On and First Impressions

ASUS has unveiled its most innovative laptop to date and it’s the ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo. Why is it innovative? Well, because the device packs a dual display but unlike the Macbook’s touch bar, the Acer Zenbook Pro Duo features a larger and better display that you can use as a secondary display or it can be used for different functions or applications.

First things first. Let’s talk about the design and build quality of the notebook. This one packs a magnesium-alloy build and surprisingly, it does look premium and heavy but once you hold it, the Zenbook Pro Duo does feel light to the hand despite the thickness of the notebook.

Yep, the notebook is thick but it’s quite reasonable as ASUS has managed to include a large Screenpad Plus display which means that the notebook does need ventilation and more space for the controllers of the display. Speaking of vents, the vents can be seen on both sides of the notebook and again, the notebook is too thick.

Similar to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S, the layout of the keyboard is placed below the secondary display along with the touchpad that features a numberpad too with just a press of a button. There’s a shortcut button too for the turbo boost and also the switching of applications from the main display to secondary or vice versa.

Let’s talk about the display of the notebook. First, we got a 15.6-inch 4K OLED display that looks really vivid and the blacks were really good at this one as expected. And of course, the secondary isn’t disappointing too as this one packs a 14″ LCD IPS Screenpad Plus with a resolution of 3840×1100.

When it comes to the secondary display, there’s a button too on the display that will show you the different application that you can run on the secondary and also a shortcut to open up to quadruple apps simultaneously. This made the ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo really unique as you can do multitasking on this one and also do some cross reference with your other applications.

The secondary display has a lot of uses. You can use it for just casual usage when you want to open a lot of Google Chrome browsers in different windows so you can easily see your chats and other applications and you can also use it for streaming with the main monitor for games with the secondary monitor for for the streaming applications and the comments.

You can also use the two monitors as one which is perfect for video editing with the timeline can be seen on the secondary display and the main display for the other elements and since both of the displays are touch screen, this is perfect swiping and navigating on the secondary display. Not just that, you can also use a stylus for the secondary display so you can easily write on the secondary display or just use it for content creation.

The ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo will be available soon in the Philippines and as of this posting, there’s no word regarding local pricing and availability.
