Apple is planning to launch a second-generation iPhone Air in the first quarter of 2027 featuring five major hardware upgrades, according to a research note by GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu. The upcoming slim flagship will reportedly debut alongside the standard iPhone 18 and a budget-friendly iPhone 18e as part of Apple’s revised spring release strategy.

Dual 48MP Rear Cameras, Smaller Dynamic Island, and A20 Pro Chip

The most notable upgrade for the iPhone Air 2 is the addition of a second 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens, complementing the existing 48-megapixel Fusion main camera. Apple is also expected to shrink the Dynamic Island cutout on the 6.5-inch display, just like the iPhone 18 Pro series.  Under the hood, the iPhone Air 2 will be powered by next-gen A20 Pro chip.

Custom N2 Wireless and C2 5G Chips with Spring 2027 Launch Strategy

Apple will also upgrade the custom second-generation N2 wireless chip (supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6) and the C2 5G modem. The second-generation device will retain key specs from the original iPhone Air, including 12GB of RAM, a 6.5-inch display, and an 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera.

Apple will position the iPhone Air 2 for a Q1 2027 launch.
