Valve has confirmed that the new Steam Controller will officially launch on May 4, with availability opening on the same day. The upcoming controller features an updated hardware and new input features similar to what we have on the Steam Decks.

The Steam Controller is priced at CAD 149/USD 99.

The Steam Controller is designed to work across multiple platforms including PC, laptop, Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame. It retains a familiar gamepad layout and if you are a Steam Deck user, you would definitely be familiar with the feel of this.

The Steam Controller includes dual trackpads that can function as a mouse replacement, making it great for games that typically require keyboard and mouse controls including shooter games. The controller also features a built-in gyroscope, allowing motion-based inputs.

A new feature called Grip Sense uses capacitive sensors on the handles to detect when the controller is being held. This allows users to enable or disable certain functions like gyro controls or map additional actions.

The Steam Controller is equipped with magnetic thumbsticks using TMR technology, and it also comes with a wireless puck that serves as both a connection hub and charging dock.

Steam Controller availability

The Steam Controller will be available starting May 4 through Steam’s official store. It is priced at CAD 149/ USD 99
