Huawei’s latest offering for the mid-level market is here and it’s the Huawei Y90. The smartphone features a large display, a fast charging capability, and also a 50MP AI Triple camera. But how does it fare in our everyday usage? Well, Check out our review of the smartphone to know more about it.
Huawei Nova Y90 Review: Design and hardware
One of the things that Huawei really excels with their devices is the design. With the Huawei Nova Y90, it might not have the metal frame and the glass back but the smartphone still feels solid in the hand.
The one that we got is the Crystal Blue color and it features a back that featured a glittering back but thankfully, it doesn’t attract a lot of fingerprints and it’s not really slippy in my hand even without the case. Combined with that is the curved sides that helps me in my grip but for smaller hands, they might find the flat frame of the smartphone a little bit annoying to hold.
We also have here the large circular camera module at the back which is a signature we’ve seen before on the Huawei Mate 40 series. On the right side, the smartphone features the volume rocker and also the fingerprint scanner that also acts as the sleep/wake button of the smartphone.
Below is where we can find the speaker grill and also the USB-C port of the smartphone. Unlike other smartphones in its price range, this one comes with a 40W Huawei SuperCharge so you can fully charge the smartphone in just a few minutes which is pretty cool.
As for the speaker of the smartphone, it’s just an average one and it will do just fine when you use it. It’s just fine for watching videos or when I was watching TikTok videos.
Huawei Y90 Review: Battery
For the battery, the smartphone comes with 5000mAh battery which is pretty standard for its size and then there’s the 40W Huawei SuperCharge as well, in our test we can get a day or even more of a battery life of usage on the smartphone which is pretty good.
Huawei Nova Y90 Review: Display
The display of the smartphone is probably its best feature. It features a 6.7-inch HUAWEI Edgeless FullView Display and the bezels on the smartphone is insanely thin especially for its price range. It features a 1.05mm narrow bezel with a 94% screen-to-body ratio.
It’s a flat display and the colors are just fine. It’s nothing special when it comes to colors but the smartphone is definitely usable when I’m using it outside. The colors are just fine along with its contrast but it’s definitely not on the level of AMOLED – which is pretty fine for its price range. But the bezels? Damn, that’s amazing.
Huawei Nova Y90 Review: Software and Performance
Inside the smartphone is EMUI 12 and it does look similar to the Huawei MatePad 10.4 2022’s HarmonyOS 3. For the apps, of course, you can rely on the Petal Search or the Huawei AppGallery and it’s also possible to sideload APKs on the smartphone if you want to.
The EMUI 12 is still refreshing to the eyes and the UI does have quick access to everything that you need. Swiping down from the top right will give you access to different connectivities including Huawei Super Device where you can connect to your other Huawei devices like laptops and connect with it seamlessly.
As for the pre-installed applications, the smartphone does come with some Huawei apps including Petal Clip, books, Docs, and more. Most of them are pretty useful and pretty good especially if you’re on the Huawei Ecosystem.
For the processing part, there’s the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor inside and as expected, the smartphone performed like most Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processors on smartphones. Running light and casual apps and games would be just fine but don’t expect to run heavier apps on the smartphone at a demanding graphics settings. Check out the benchmarks of the smartphone.
For the camera of the smartphone, it features a 50MP main camera along with 2MP macro camera and also a 2MP Depth camera. Unfortunately, there’s no ultra wide-angle camera on the smartphone and for the selfies, there’s the 8MP selfie camera.

As for the quality of the smartphone’s camera, well, it’s pretty darn bad. I actually didn’t like the shots that we took using the smartphone. Check out the camera samples from the Huawei nova Y90.
Most of the shots that we took lacks colors and the dynamic range of the smartphone isn’t that great. Similar can be said with its front-facing camera of the smartphone.
Huawei nova Y90 Review: Verdict
The Huawei nova Y90 is an entry-level smartphone for people who are delving into the Huawei ecosystem. The smartphone’s processor is capable of most of the apps that you need especially the lighter and the casual ones and as for the battery, this one does have a good one but for the camera lovers, they might not like this one.
The Huawei nova Y90 is now available for Php11,999
Xiaomi has finally made it official! The Xiaomi 12 Lite, the more affordable smartphone in the series has finally been launched at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The smartphone features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset inside along with a 108MP main camera.
Despite being more affordable and being a “Lite” variant in the family, the Xiaomi 12 Lite still fares pretty well in the mid-range segment. The screen is still a decent one as this one comes with a 120Hz refresh rate on an AMOLED panel and the camera of the smartphone is pretty decent as well.
Xiaomi 12 Lite Specs
6.55-inch Full HD+ AMOLED Display, 10-bit, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support
Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset
6GB/8GB LPDDR4X RAM
128GB Internal storage
Camera:
108MP Main Samsung HM2 Sensor
8MP Ultra-wide angle camera
2MP Macro Camera
32MP Selfie Camera
LTE, 5G
Dual SIM
In-display fingerprint scanner
WiFi 6, Bluetooth
67W Charging
4300mAh battery
Colors: Black, Lite Green, and Lite Pink
MIUI 13 based on Android 12
Unlike the Redmi Note series, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is steeper at Php20,999 for the 6GB/128GB variant and then there are the 8GB/128GB at Php21,999 which basically gives us a higher RAM.
Pre-orders start this August 19 up to 26 at Xiaomi authorized online channels. Customers can also get free limited-editing premium gifts worth PHP 3,500, which include Xiaomi Tyvek bag, Xiaomi Pinoy Bunny, Xiaomi Nightlight, Xiaomi Ceramic Mug, Xiaomi shirt, notebook, and pen.
Xiaomi 12 Lite is finally here and it’s the newest smartphone in the series. The smartphone features a Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset which is a very decent one despite being out for months already and then there’s the 120Hz refresh rate on the AMOLED panel as well and a 108MP Samsung HM2 sensor which is a sensor that was used by previous flagship smartphones. So what do I think about the smartphone? Check it out in our review below.
Xiaomi 12 Lite Review: Design and Hardware
The Xiaomi 12 Lite is different from its bigger brother, the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro but this one still features a solid flat frame despite having a polycarbonate frame but this one comes with a glass back. Holding it might not be the most ergonomic one because of its flat frame.
The back design resembles the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro. It might not have a curved side but the clean look of the back along with the camera layout of the smartphone does give it a premium and solid vibe. The camera module of the smartphone doesn’t look too thick as well so it doesn’t wobble too much on a flat surface.
The Xiaomi 12 Lite is also pretty light as well and as for the buttons, we can find the power button and also the volume rocker on top of it. The USB-C port below the smartphone supports 67W of charging. But unfortunately for the fans of 3.5mm headphone jack, you can only rely on a dongle or wireless headsets for the smartphone as this one doesn’t have an audio jack.
When it comes to the speaker of the smartphone, the Xiaomi 12 Lite comes with a pretty average quality and honestly, It would do just fine but it doesn’t really excel in this category.
Xiaomi 12 Lite Review: Display
The display of the smartphone is actually one of my favorites. It features a 6.55-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution. There’s a 10-bit display here as well which gives us a lot of colors for the display and then there’s the 120Hz refresh rate on the smartphone for smoother animation and experience.
While the colors are great on the smartphone, there’s no dynamic refresh rate on the smartphone so we have to choose between a 120Hz refresh rate or a 60Hz refresh rate on the smartphone. Unfortunately, we have to choose between the two — a longer battery life with 60Hz or a better and smoother experience on the 120Hz refresh rate.
Overall, the quality of the Xiaomi 12 lite display is still pretty awesome. The colors are great and the screen size is just perfect whether you’re planning on using it for watching videos or playing games.
Xiaomi 12 Lite Review: Battery life
Inside the Xiaomi 12 Lite is a 4300mAh and we tested the smartphone in PC Mark Work 2.0 Battery test and we got a score of 14 hours and 32 minutes. That’s not the longest that we’ve seen on a smartphone with this chipset and battery but it’s still a pretty good one.
Xiaomi 12 Lite Review: Software and performance
For the software of the Xiaomi 12 Lite, the smartphone comes with MIUI 13.0.3 which is based on Android 12. Everything was smooth and I didn’t encounter a single bug when I was using the smartphone. It was smooth and pleasant to the eyes as well thanks to the 120hz refresh rate.
There are some preinstalled applications on the smartphone but most of them are useful as for the storage, the one that we got comes with 128GB of internal storage and so far, it was enough for my media files and games. However, if you feel that the memory isn’t enough for you, there’s no slot for microSD.
When it comes to performance, again, the Xiaomi 12 lite comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G inside along with 8GB of RAM. You can also expand its RAM by 3GB more which is getting from the main storage of the smartphone. Honestly, I love the performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G. Why? Because despite being out in the market for a while, it’s still powerful and it can beat most of the mid-range processors out there in the market.
The chipset is pretty consistent as well when it comes to 5G and since the chipset is out in the market for a while, a lot of apps and games are already matured and compatible with the Xiaomi 12 Lite. We tried Genshin Impact on the smartphone at lowest settings at 60fps and it was playable however, we noticed that the frames are fluctuating but nonetheless, it was great. Playing it on medium settings would be feasible as well.
Other games would do just fine as well on the Xiaomi 12 Lite including PUBG Mobile, a picky game when it comes to graphics. We were able to have it at smooth graphics settings with up to Extreme (60fps) frame rates.
If you’re curious about the benchmarks, here are the scores that I got from the smartphone:
For the camera of the Xiaomi 12 Lite, the smartphone comes with a 108MP main camera along with 8MP Ultra wide-angle camera and also a 2MP macro camera. The rear camera of the smartphone does a pretty good job when shooting photos, especially at decent lighting conditions and as for the 32MP selfie camera of the smartphone, it does the job but it’s a little bit soft. Check out some of the shots that we took using the smartphone.

Obviously, we got pretty amazing colors on the Xiaomi 12 Lite and the sharpness of the shots that we got on the smartphone are excellent especially on decent lighting conditions. At night, I’ve noticed that this it’s a little bit darker than expected but it’s still great.
1660801338269 scaled
1660801338164 scaled
It’s definitely one of the best camera smartphones in its price range. On the selfie camera, I’ve noticed that this one lacks details but still, it’s a pretty good one. The post-processing also helps in producing better dynamic range and better selfies as well.
Xiaomi 12 Lite Review: Verdict
The Xiaomi 12 Lite is a very decent smartphone and a solid one to hold. The design might be simple and generic to some people but it’s solid and it feels premium to hold despite having different materials from the 12 and 12 Pro. The camera is also decent and there’s a decent performance as well.
The price is in a tight spot though as a lot of smartphones compete in the price range but if you want the latest one from Xiaomi that performs well in the battery and camera department then the Xiaomi 12 Lite might be the one for you.

Xiaomi did a pretty good job with the Xiaomi 12 as the smartphone features a powerful hardware inside and a design that we love. In our review of the Xiaomi 12 Pro we love every bits of the smartphone as it has a lot to offer but recently, Xiaomi has officially announced that the Xiaomi 12 Lite will arrive in the Philippines soon. But what do I think about it? Well, check out our article about the smartphone.
Unboxing
The box of the Xiaomi 12 Lite is straightforward and simple. Inside the box, we can get the jelly case, manuals, USB-A to USB-C Cable, SIM card ejector, and of course, the 67W Fast Charger. Again, it’s a straightforward smartphone and thankfully, they didn’t ditched the charger on this one.
Design and hardware
For the design of the smartphone of the Xiaomi 12 Lite, we got here a back design that resembles the camera layout of the Xiaomi 12 series brothers but once you hold it, you know that this one is different.
It features a flat plastic frame and of course, there’s the solid feel as well despite having a different material from its bigger brothers. It’s still something that I still like on the smartphone. The one that we got comes in black and honestly, it does look fine.
The smartphone also features the sleep/wake button on the right and on top of that is the volume rocker of the smartphone. Below is where you can find the USB-C port and also the SIM card slot of the smartphone along with the speaker grill. That USB-C port? it supports 67W of charging and it can fully charge the smartphone in just a few minutes.
For the display, the Xiaomi 12 Lite features a 6.55-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, it’s not a adaptive AMOLED display so you need to pick between 60Hz or 120Hz. The quality? it’s actually pretty fine and you can actually get a lot of colors on this one.
As for the processor, this one comes with a pretty familiar Snapdragon 778G 5G processor inside and honestly, it’s not the most powerful processor out there but it’s still one of the best one out there in the market especially for the midrange segment.
Camera
For the camera of the smartphone, The Xiaomi 12 Lite features a 108MP main camera with ISOCELL HM2 sensor inside, a sensor that is used by previous flagship smartphones and it’s actually a pretty good one so I was happy to see it on the midrange smartphone like this one. Along with the main camera is the 8MP ultra wide-angle camera and also the 2MP macro camera and for selfies, there’s the 32MP selfie camera.

The main camera of the smartphone is pretty awesome. Most of the shots that we took using the smartphone are pretty good as the colors are great and the dynamic range of the camera is good as well. Check out the shots that we took using the smartphone:
Initial Verdict
There’s so much to like about the smartphone. There’s the decent performance inside thanks to the Snapdragon 778G 5G processor inside, the AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and a simple but solid design. But of course, it’s still not a perfect one but everything that we’ve seen on the smartphone so far is pretty solid.
I’ve been on a quest to find the best Windows laptop for me that I can use for travel and also for writing. I was looking for a laptop with a decent processor, a lightweight, and portable design, and also an ergonomic keyboard since I’ll be using it mostly for social media and also for writing, and thankfully, we got a review unit of the MSI Prestige 14 Evo and we did have a wonderful experience with this laptop and here’s our long term review of it.
Design
One of the things that I love about the notebook is that it’s light and the design of this one is very professional and minimalistic. Whether you want it for work or for play, the design of the MSI Prestige 14 Evo is very fitting for my taste.
The notebook is thin and light at 1.29kg and at 16mm so it fits in every bag that I have and as for the design, it’s perfect for work and for everyday use as the design of the notebook seems fitting for any usage so I really don’t have any problems with it.
As for the body of the notebook, it comes with an ultra-light body along with its slim and sleek aluminum chassis, and again, it’s stylish enough to show it off at work or at a coffee shop. Another thing that I love about the notebook is the hinge of this one as I can go for a 180-degree hinge.
At the lid of the notebook, it features a clean look and there’s the minimalistic MSI logo as well the notebook passes the MIL-STD-810G military standard so you know that this notebook is reliable and durable. I’ve never dropped the notebook but I never had any problems with its durability.
As for the ports, this one comes with 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports on the notebook which also serves as the port for the charging on the notebook, and on the other side, it comes with a USB-A port and also a microSD card slot, and the audio combo jack. Not a complete set of ports but a decent one already considering its size.
As for the speakers, this one doesn’t really have good speakers so if you’re planning on watching movies on this one, well, be prepared, or better yet, get a Bluetooth speaker for this as this one lacks a bit of base and it isn’t as loud as I expected it to be.
In this day where a lot of us rely on video calls for work and also for school, having a good webcam is a must but unfortunately, the webcam of the MSI Prestige EVO 14 is bad. Like really bad but there’s Windows hello on this one so that’s a cool feature that is added to the notebook.
When it comes to the battery, the MSI Prestige 14 EVO was able to last up to 7-8 hours of usage which basically is composed of browsing the web and using Google Docs. As for charging, you can use the 65W USB-C charger or some other chargers that you have at home. It’s actually pretty nifty that I was able to use my GaN charger on this one.
Display
There’s no touchscreen on the display of the MSI Prestige 14 EVO and there’s the matte panel as well so glare isn’t much of a problem here. Thanks to the thin bezels of the notebook, it doesn’t feel that this one has a 14-inch display however, it does have a 16:9 resolution which might be a turn-off for some people.
As for the quality, it’s actually just fine and with the full HD resolution of the notebook, there’s not much to see here. It will definitely do its job just fine but don’t expect too much from this notebook.
Keyboard and touchpad
There’s a decent size of keyboard here. It’s actually one of my favorite keyboards on a laptop that I’ve ever tried. The MSI Prestige 14 EVO features a full-size keyboard with no Numpad and the travel distance for the keyboard of this notebook is really good and very responsive, however, the function keys do have a smaller size. And the layout? It’s kinda weird at first as some of the keys including printscreen are on the side. Sometimes, I mistake the key for the enter button.
As for the touchpad, it’s actually wide because of the aspect ratio of the notebook. It’s not as tall as I think but it would be just fine. There’s a fingerprint scanner as well on the touchpad that adds more security to the notebook aside from the IR Camera. So it’s really nice that you have the option to use the fingerprint scanner and also the face unlock of the notebook.
Performance
For the performance of the notebook, it comes with an Intel Core i7-1195G7 processor inside and it might not be the freshest processor already but damn, this one still performs well even a few months after its release. Paired with that is 16GB RAM and honestly, the performance is more than enough for most people. We’ve been using it for heavy excel files and even on heavy PowerPoint files and I didn’t have a single problem with it.
Even months after using it, the performance is still pretty good and as for the new generation of Intel Processors, well, compared to the Intel Core i7-1195G7 inside it, this one can still perform really well whether you’re planning to use it for a lot of Excel files or for zoom with a lot of cameras.
The SSD inside the MSI Prestige 14 EVO is pretty fast as well as this one runs on PCIe Gen 4 SSD. In our Crystal Disk Mark test, we saw that the SSD inside this notebook is really fast and over the months that we’re using it, we didn’t see a slowdown on this one.
As for the other benchmarks, here are the scores that we got:
297952300 763534894907870 6411420953934639034 n
297229256 647901863343906 140609058677876052 n 1

This MSI Prestige 14 EVO might not be made for gaming but it proves that its power is more than enough for people who want to work anywhere or use it for school. Despite the 12th Generation Intel CPU floating around in the market, we were still happy with the performance of this notebook as this one is still fast and it can still beat most of the new chips out there in the market.
Verdict
The MSI Prestige 14 EVO proves that the notebook is a very capable one despite the release of the 12th Generation Intel Core CPUs. It’s light, premium and importantly, it’s powerful to get you thru the day.
