Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Review

Samsung has finally launched the latest generation of their flagship foldable smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. This smartphone is currently the Korean brand’s best offering as this one packs powerful hardware inside and also some features that have been upgraded and polished as well.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Review: Design and Hardware

The smartphone’s design is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 but you’ll notice the changes in the Galaxy Z Fold4 once you go side by side with the Galaxy Z Fold3. Why? Because this one has different dimensions as we now have a wider aspect ratio which gave me a better experience when I was using the smartphone.

Outside, it’s pretty much the same. We have here a metal frame on the outside but this time it’s a glossy one and then there’s the glass back as well which is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+. I never dropped the smartphone but you can really feel how tough and solid the smartphone is once you hold it.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is also the lightest and thinnest Galaxy Fold ever and the changes were noticeable. It’s light enough to be used in one hand but the smartphone is still chunky to be used when folded. Some people might still find it hard to use it in one hand. Nonetheless, the lighter and thinner body still helped.

For the ports, it’s still similar. The smartphone still features a USB-C port that supports up to 25W charging which is a bummer as we haven’t seen a big upgrade in this department. The smartphone still features a fingerprint scanner that also acts as home/wake button of the smartphone which is really convenient over under-display fingerprint scanner, especially on a foldable like this.

The hinge of the smartphone has also felt better. It’s solid, felt tougher and it’s very flexible on whatever angles you want for this smartphone. There’s still a gap on the hinge of the smartphone but honestly, I barely notice or care about that whenever I use a foldable smartphone.

The speaker of the smartphone is superb as well so whether you are playing or just watching movies on the smartphone, you’ll get a more immersive experience on the smartphone and thanks to its weight, I don’t feel that the smartphone is too stressful or doesn’t give me fatigue in my hands.

As for the battery, the smartphone comes with a 4500mAh battery with support for 25W charging. It’s definitely a letdown that we haven’t seen a faster-charging speeds from Samsung but as for the battery, it’s mostly decent as we were able to get a long workday of usage without the need for a battery despite using both the outer display and foldable display of the smartphone

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Review: Display

One of the changes that Samsung has done to the smartphone is the display. The smartphone also features thinner bezels on both the inner and also the foldable display and I tell you, both displays are excellent. The outer display features a 6.2” panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and already crisp 2316×904 resolution while the foldable display is a 7.6” display with QXGA+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Both of them are Dynamic AMOLED 2x panels. 

For the colors, they’re really excellent and the refresh rate is really good for gaming whether you want to play on the outer display or on the foldable display. The aspect ratio has been changed as well which gives it a slightly wider aspect ratio which means it’s a little bit less tall for better ergonomics. 

As for the crease, it’s still here but they manage to have it a little less noticeable honestly, it just turns invisible for me once I use the smartphone. Samsung also promises that the displays of the smartphone are tougher and a lot better and I believe them as I really feel it on the smartphone. 

Another upgrade here is the better under-display camera on the smartphone. It is now less noticeable vs. the Galaxy Fold3 but the quality of the camera on the foldable display is still abysmal.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Review: Software and performance

For the performance of the smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 5G comes with the most powerful chipset on smartphones right now – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor inside along with 12GB of RAM. Basically, it gives everything that we need on gaming and also on benchmarks. In benchmarks, we got a pretty good score on the smartphone:

When it comes to gaming, we were able to play games seamlessly on the smartphone. Whether we play Genshin Impact or even Civilization VI on the large display of the smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is more than enough. Any emulators or any games that are available right now on the Play Store would run flawlessly on the smartphone. It’s so powerful that we were able to run 5 different games at the same time on the smartphone.

But the best part about the smartphone is its operating system. Yes, it’s still running on OneUI but this time, it’s now running on Android 12L, the latest operating system of Android that is made for larger screens for better multi-tasking and better app optimizations. 

Some of those features include taskbar which lets me drag and drop apps on the foldable display of the smartphone. This feature gives me a more desktop feel experience on its 7.6-inch display. It’s way faster to open apps and of course to switch to different apps as well. This is especially perfect if you’re the type of person who is always working on the go.

And of course, we got some minor improvements as well on flex mode as we can use the smartphone’s other half of the foldable display for navigating on different apps

Adjusting the app windows is cool as hell as well but it’s not on the level of Stage Manager of Apple or Samsung DeX. But hey, this is a 7.6-inch display on a foldable smartphone and I think Samsung did really well on this one. As for the accessories, I connected my Galaxy Watch 4 on the smartphone along with my Galaxy Buds2. As expected, the smartphone works better if you’re using the Samsung ecosystem.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Review: Camera

The camera is one of the biggest upgrades on the smartphone. It now features a 50MP main camera along with 12MP ultra wide-angle camera and also a 10MP telephoto camera along with 10MP selfie camera on the cover display and also a 4MP under-display camera on the foldable display. Again, the under-display camera of the smartphone is still terrible:

As for the cover display camera of the smartphone, it has been great for taking selfies, and actually, I was getting really great selfie shots as most of the details are sharp and the colors and skin tone is on point on the smartphone. 

The camera of the smartphone is a big upgrade from the previous generation and the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 can definitely get on the same level as the Galaxy S22 but definitely not the ultra one.

I love how great the color is whether we’re in decent lighting conditions or at low light and I love how sharp the camera of the smartphone is. Again, it’s definitely not on the same level as the Galaxy S22 Ultra but it is still a great one.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Review: Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is definitely one of the best smartphones to get right now as it features flagship hardware inside and also software that is really great for foldable. The software and the hardware of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 felt really polished and more enabling towards productivity thanks to its foldable display.

The smartphone’s camera and also its performance is also stellar but of course, there are better camera phones out there and it’s not the fastest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 out there but it’s definitely exciting and powerful as the foldable display of the smartphone gives you a lot more to do. 

So if you got the money, Php98,990 to be exact.

MindNation officially launched its app in the Philippines, making mental health care more accessible for Filipinos.

A report showed that one in two Filipino workers is struggling with mental health problems. Some reasons include financial concerns, job pressures, and return-to-office anxieties.

To help them, the MindNation app is now available for download on Google Play and the App Store for FREE.

This is game-changing, considering there’s stigmatization, lack of awareness, and poor accessibility to mental health services in the country. In addition, many Filipinos think they should only visit a psychologist when their symptoms are already severe.

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) dominates its competitors, as it delivers up to 75% faster speeds on Apple, Samsung, and other Android devices.

Based on Ookla’s analysis of Speedtest Intelligence data for Q3 2022, Smart remains the fastest mobile network for iPhone, Samsung, and other Android devices. In addition, the report showed that users in the Philippines experienced between 35% to 75% faster speeds while connected to Smart 5G and Smart LTE compared to the next top network provider.

Ookla figures showed that Android devices performed 59% faster on the Smart network (all technologies), and up to 35% faster on Smart LTE versus the next top competitor
network.

On the other hand, Apple devices were 75% faster on the Smart network (all technologies), 57% faster on Smart 5G, and 56% faster on Smart 4G/LTE.

Meanwhile, iPhones recorded speeds that were 75% faster on the Smart network (all
technologies), 57% faster on Smart 5G and 4G/LTE.

Lastly, Samsung devices were 69%t faster on the Smart network (all technologies), 58% faster on Smart 4G/LTE, and 45% faster on Smart 5G.

“Speed has always been the key metric of customer experience especially now that all urban areas in the country have mobile coverage. Having the fastest speeds gives Smart subscribers the best customer experience and game-changing advantage as they go about their work or school, grow their business, or enjoy their daily dose of entertainment,” said Francis E. Flores, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business-Individual at Smart.

Smart also noted that the latest Ookla figures proved its commitment to offering a superior mobile network for Filipinos.

Disney+ is arriving in the Philippines this November 17

It’s finally official. Disney+ will arrive in the Philippines this November 17 and we now have a first look at the plans and also the shows that will arrive in the Philippines. Disney+ in the Philippines will come with movies and series from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and Star.

Disney+ has also revealed their plans and pricing in the Philippines. It will come in two plans — Mobile and Premium. With the mobile plan at Php159 and the Premium plan at Php369. You can also pay annually to save 30%.

For the mobile plan, you can only have 1 concurrent streaming on phone and tablet at up to 720p quality while the Premium plan will get you up to 4K Ultra HD plans and you can stream Disney+ on all devices.

Apple just updated their iPad Pro lineup earlier today and now, it comes with a more powerful M2 chip inside. The M2 chip can previously be found on the 2022 Macbook Air and finally, they brought it on the iPad Pro. Now, some people might think that this is too overpowered for a tablet like this. Well, Apple has finally announced some apps that can maximize its power including DaVinci Resolve and also Octane.

The new M2 chip of the iPad Pro promises to bring faster graphics and machine learning performance and of course, a better memory bandwidth which is why the pro apps are coming to the iPad Pro. You can also expect a better gaming performance on this tablet as well.

Aside from that, the new iPad Pro will now support Pencil hover for the 2nd generation Apple Pencil which will be useful for some applications. Other features include WiFi 6E and also support for 5G on cellular models. The iPad Pro will also come with ProRes encoder and it can now record up in ProRes codec thanks to the powerful chip inside the tablet.
