0

Fujifilm’s 102-megapixel large format camera is here, yep, it’s the Fujifilm GFX100. The camera was previous launched at Tokyo, Japan last May and finally, the camera is arriving here in the Philippines to make some serious business.

The Fujifilm GFX100 has captured praises from pros and enthusiasts thanks to its large image sensor and also the features that are really competitive and game changing in the large format photography.

The Fujifilm GFX100 packs a lot of features but what makes it unique compared to other cameras is thanks to the in-body image stabilization or IBIS mechanism for its large CMOS sensor as the GFX100 is the first mirrorless digital camera to sport IBIS. Thanks to this feature, autofocus speed and its performance is really top-notch.

The Fujifilm GFX100 can also shoot uncropped 4k and it can even switch aspect ratio and yes, the GFX100’s processor can handle everything that they need and since this is a Fujifilm camera, they can also add Film Simulation modes for Fujifilm’s characteristic color and tone reproduction.

Aside from the mentioned features, some of the cool features that you can see on the Fujifilm GFX100 is the fast and high precision PDAF, a 4K/30P video recording, world’s top-class ultra-high definition EVF or electronic viewfinder with more than 5.76M dots for accurate focusing, support for 16-bit RAW and 16-bit TIFF for photographers, and it can accommodate two batteries and supporting USB charging/powering for enhanced user convenience.

The Fujifilm GFX100 is available for whooping price of Php599,990 for the body only.

Lenovo launches new Thinkpad notebooks in the Philippines

0

Lenovo Philippines has recently launched their newest thinkpad line of notebooks that is now powered by the latest 9th generation processor and of course, these notebooks will still come with the same tough design and enterprise-level security of the Thinkpad line.

The best of em’ all in the recently launched Thinkpads is the Lenovo T490 which is now powered by the Nvidia GeForce MX250 GPU which boosts the laptop when it requires more graphical needs and of course, for those people who are looking for more power, there’s the support for 48GB DDR4 RAM 2400MHz.

The Lenovo X390 is also one of its best notebooks as this one comes with 17.6 hours of battery life that comes with Rapid Charge feature that can charge the notebook up to 80% in just an hour of charging. This one is pretty slim too at 16.5mm and weighs at 1.22kg. The hinge of this notebook is flexible too as we can flex it up to 180-degrees.

There’s the entry-level ThinkPad E490 too that comes with an up to Intel Core i7 processor paired with AMD Radeon RX 550X GPU and also Intel Optane memory. This one provides a fast enough experience and security on an entry-level Thinkpad notebook.

One of my favorite products that were launched was the ThinkVision M14. This is a 14-inch portable monitor that you can bring anywhere. it comes with a Full HD IPS panel and it’s easy to bring as this one comes with 1.3 pounds only. You can also connect it to your devices via USB-C and you don’t need a power adapter anymore.

If you’re curious about the latest products from Thinkpad, check out the prices of their products below.

Each smartphone has its own strengths and they’re all good depending on what you need from a smartphone. So let’s go first on the display of the smartphone. Well, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom got a panoramic display with no notch and has a bigger display which means that it has the advantage of being more immersive compared to the other two smartphones, however, the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ packs a curved display with a notch and punch-hole design and with the Galaxy smartphone having a QHD resolution on the display.

The processor is something that is not easy to look at. All of the processors have their own strengths with the Snapdragon 855 being more flexible for apps and games while the Exynos 9820 is powerful too even with its GPU benchmarks and the Kirin 980 can handle AI really well but the Snapdragon 855 of the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is more practical as this one is more compatible with games and applications that you can find in the Play store. The stability of the Snapdragon processors in temperature and also in running applications has been really well for quite some time.

When it comes to design, all has its own unique design language but with the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is quite unique as the smartphone doesn’t have a notch and it has a mechanical pop-up camera at the top and it doesn’t have a protruding camera at the back of the smartphone. While the Samsung Galaxy S10+ has a really nice premium build along with the Huawei P30 Pro and both of these smartphones are ergonomic. But of course, the consumer still has a different taste when it comes to the design of the smartphones.

The feature that separates these three smartphones from each other is the camera. With the Samsung Galaxy S10+, we get a triple-lens camera that comes with Dual aperture and a 16MP ultra wide-angle lens along with the 12MP telephoto camera and 12MP wide-angle camera while the Huawei P30 Pro packs a 40MP super sensing camera, 16MP ultra wide-angle lens, 8MP telephoto lens, and TOF camera and lastly, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom packs a 48MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide angle camera and a 13MP periscope lens.

These three smartphones have a great camera and they do have their own strengths. In my experience, the color accuracy goes to the Samsung Galaxy S10+ on both selfie and rear camera of the smartphone while the AI capabilities of the camera go to the Huawei P30 Pro but if you’re looking of something balance in all aspects then the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom might be the one for you.

Not just that, the Huawei P30 Pro and the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom are only the two smartphones that packs more than 50x zoom with the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom able to capture up to 60x zoom. Actually, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom’s camera can even see what I can’t.

When it comes to the battery the Huawei P30 Pro got a 4200mAh battery while the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom got a 4065mAh battery and the Samsung Galaxy S10+ got a 4100mAH battery. All of the three smartphones can last to a day of usage but the Huawei P30 Pro got a 40W charger while the Reno 10X Zoom got a 20W charger and the Galaxy S10+ got a 18W charger.

All in all, they have their own strengths and I love all of these smartphones but when you’re looking for something that is balanced, then the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom might be the best smartphone for you. We got here large storage, a full-screen display, a great camera, and a long battery life while the Huawei P30 Pro is still a great camera smartphone but it doesn’t have the same notch-less display but it does pack a lot of features that everyone would love and oh, the Huawei P30 Pro and the Reno 10x Zoom are priced at Php45,990 which is cheaper than the Galaxy S10+

However, if you want a whole ecosystem that is solid and matured, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ might be the one for you. It has a camera that performs well and an ecosystem and accessories that will work seamlessly with the phone. The Galaxy S10+ is available for Php55,990.

ASUS Vivobook X403 & X412 Hands-on and Price in the Philippines

0

ASUS has recently launched their newest notebooks in the country and these are quite affordable notebooks as they belong in the Vivobook series and these are the Vivobook X412 and the Vivobook X413. These are quite good notebook for work and casual usage and if you want to know more about it, check out our hands-on of the notebooks below.

ASUS Vivobook X412

This notebook features a plastic build. It’s not bad at all as this one doesn’t feel cheap.  Also, there’s a decent NanoEdge display on this laptop so you know that the laptop doesn’t compromise on the display as we got a really thin bezel on this notebook which is a welcome feature on the Vivobook. It’s not surprising at all as a lot of notebooks are now adopting the thin-bezel displays.

When it comes to the design of the notebook, it does come in a thin enough profile that makes the notebook portable and since this one is made up of plastic, the notebook is light to carry. This one doesn’t lack in ports too as we got a USB-C, USB 3.1, USB 2.0, HDMI, and microSD card slot.

Compared to the predecessor, this one has a cleaner look and we got here some rounded keys which makes the notebook look stylish and chic but when I was typing on it, I wish that there was more tactile feedback. Another thing, this one comes with ErgoLift hinge which helps the laptop have a better cooling system

Inside the notebook, it ranges from Intel Core i3-8145U with MX230 GPU up to Core i7-8565U and MX250 GPU which is powerful enough to be the main notebook that you can use for your office and school.

ASUS Vivobook X403

This notebook is not just attractive when it comes to design thanks to its metallic design but this one also comes with MIL-STD-810G military standard which means that the notebook is really tough. Another unique selling point of this notebook is its battery as this one is able to get up to 24 hours of battery life.

The chassis is premium to hold and you can easily feel that it’s very sturdy. Despite the military standard, the design of the notebook wasn’t compromised at all as this one is still and portable to bring anywhere although, we don’t have an ErgoLift hinge on this notebook.

However, the ASUS Vivobook X403 got a NanoEdge Display woth a thin bezel on all 4 sides of the display of the notebook and of course, we got here a backlit keyboard that has a nice feedback almost all of the ports that you need.

Regarding the keyboard, well, we do have rounded squares on its keys but it does feel fine to type on and then the fingerprint scanner of the notebook at the touchpad adds more security to the notebook which is fine. When it comes to ports, we do have a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 2.0, HDMI, and a SD card reader.

Despite the lack of ErgoLift hinge on this one, the ASUS Vivobook X403 will feel just fine. One of the reasons why they didn’t include it is because of the military standard of the notebook. Nonetheless, the ASUS Vivobook X403 is a great notebook for office and casual use especially for those people who are always hungry for battery life.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Review

0

Xiaomi is known for creating products that are affordable for its hardware and their latest flagship smartphone -Xiaomi Mi9 is no exception. This is currently the most affordable smartphone with Snapdragon 855 processor inside that you can get in the market. But are there compromises to get to this value of the smartphone? Check it out in our review below.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Review: Hardware and Design

Without a doubt, the Xiaomi Mi 9’s design might look similar to other smartphones in the front but it is indeed beautiful especially when you see the back of the smartphone as this one has a premium look and feel to it thanks to the glass material at the back of the smartphone and it’s lightweight too so you won’t have any problems with it.

There’s the curved back too which perfectly contours to my hand so even if you have a smaller hand to hold the Xiaomi Mi 9, you can still hold the smartphone just fine and of course, there are the rounded metal sides that are premium to hold. However, there’s a downside with Mi 9’s design, the smartphone’s build might be beautiful into our eyes, however, it’s a little bit slippery for me so I highly recommend you guys to use the included jelly case.

Just like any other flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi Mi 9 doesn’t have a headphone jack which is unfortunate as you have to use the included dongle to use your 3.5mm earphones or speakers. Alternatively, you can use wireless earbuds like the Mi AirDots Pro. There’s another feature on the smartphone that I love to use and it’s the smart button and it’s a shortcut for Google Assistant so you can easily search on your smartphone. There’s an IR blaster too at the top of the smartphone which can be used for appliances using the Mi Remote app but actually, I barely use that app.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 also features an in-display fingerprint scanner and in my usage, it was fairly fast enough and I didn’t have any problems using the smartphone’s in-display fingerprint scanner and of course, the smartphone also supports face unlock and as expected, it was fast and I didn’t experience any problems with it.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Review: Display

The smartphone doesn’t feature a gimmicky display. It’s just a normal display with a notch. They called it as a dot drop display and it packs a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED panel with a decent 90.7% screen-to-body ratio. In our experience, the display of the smartphone fairs well in our review. It has nice colors and the outdoor visibility of the display is quite good.

Despite having a notch on the display, I wasn’t really distracted by it. Overall, I liked that that we’re getting small bezels on this smartphone with a pretty high screen-to-body ratio. The Super AMOLED panel in the smartphone might not be the best in most flagship smartphones but this one is already great for me and I’m actually satisfied with it.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Review: Battery Life

The Xiaomi Mi 9 features a 3300mah battery for its size and it might not sound optimistic but the Mi 9 does actually pretty well in the battery life department. I was able to get a score of 11 hours and 35 minutes on the smartphone which is well beyond my expectations. In normal usage, the Xiaomi Mi 9 will last a day depending on your usage. I can use the smartphone from 10 AM up to 8 PM before running out of juice but of course, that’s on heavy usage. The smartphone can actually last up to a day of use if you’re just into light usage. In case you’re worried about its battery life, well, the smartphone does come with an 18W fast charger so you don’t have to worry if you forgot to charge your smartphone before you go to your bed.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Review: Software

The software of Xiaomi smartphones is one of the most heavily customized on the market right now. Some people love, some hate it. Why love it? Well, the UI is clean to look and it’s very easy to learn and use but some people hate it due to being heavily customized and also due to the ads that are appearing left and right on certain Xiaomi applications. Yep, there are ads in selected applications of the smartphones which I find really annoying.

And of course, the MIUI is filled with bloatware which I already suspect since we’ve seen that before on the previous MIUI. But of course, some of them are pretty useful like the Mi Remote and Security but some of them are just useless apps for me.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Review: Performance

The biggest selling point of Xiaomi Mi 9 is its performance. Again, this is the most affordable smartphone that you can get in the Philippines with a Snapdragon 855 processor and this one is paired with a 6GB of RAM. Actually, you don’t need to see the FPS benchmarks on the smartphone as this one can run anything that is available on the Google Play Store.

We ran different benchmarking applications on the Xiaomi Mi 9 and we were not surprised that the smartphone decimated the different benchmarks as this one is one of the most powerful smartphones that you can get in the market. Check out the scores that we got on the smartphone:

Of course, we need to test this one out on gaming and as expected, the smartphone was able to run all of the heavy games without problems. We tested NBA 2k19, PUBG Mobile, and Talion on the smartphone and all of them ran pretty well and without problems. Everything was smooth and playable.

Xiaomi Mi 9 Review: Camera

The camera of the Xiaomi Mi 9 is actually pretty surprising as we got really decent shots on the smartphone. It’s actually surprising and this is one of the best smartphones in terms of the camera in its price range. We got a 48MP main camera + 12MP telephoto camera + 16MP ultra wide-angle lens camera on the smartphone and then there’s the 20MP camera for selfies. And in our tests, we got really nice shots on ALL of the cameras of the smartphone. Even the night mode of the smartphone performed pretty well.

Most of the shots were vivid, bright and the colors are on point whether you’re taking photos at decent lighting conditions or at lowlight. Check out the shots that we took using the Xiaomi Mi 9:

Xiaomi Mi 9 Review: Verdict

Xiaomi has successfully created another smartphone that shines in almost all segments. We love the Xiaomi Mi 9’s camera, performance, and design however, we have some reservations to its heavily customized UI. Nonetheless, Xiaomi Mi 9 is still a great smartphone, especially at its price range.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 starts at Php22,990 for the 6GB/64GB and trust me, the smartphone is really insane for its price. You can also get the higher variant with 128GB with the same RAM for Php24,990. So if you’re looking for a smartphone with a great camera and performance at this price range then you better get this one.

Here’s what we know about the Samsung Galaxy Note10

0

The Samsung Galaxy Note10 will be launching this August and we can’t wait for the arrival of the smartphone to the market. But of course, there were leaks about the Samsung Galaxy Note10 even before the launch of the smartphone. So you might probably wonder what the Galaxy Note10 might offer to us. Check out the things that we know about the smartphone below:

This is what the Samsung Galaxy Note10 might look like

As expected, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will have less curves compared to the Galaxy S series but this one features an Infinity-O display with a punch-hole camera at the middle of the display instead of the sides which can be seen on the Galaxy S smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy Note10 is insanely powerful

A GeekBench score has shown that the Galaxy Note10 will have an Exynos 9825 processor inside with a really high single-core and multi-score compared to other smartphones.

It will come with a 25W charger and it’ll probably support 45W charging

According to leakster, @UniverseIce, the Samsung Galaxy Note10 will come with a faster 25W charger and it will have support for 45W fast charging and even 20W wireless charging. Insane.

There’s no headphone jack on the smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy Note10 might ditch the headphone jack in favor of the USB-C port. It’s getting common to most flagship smartphones these days but it’s sad to see that the 3.5mm jack is going away as there are only a few flagship smartphones that still have this feature. But according to @Rquandt, the smartphone will come with active noise canceling wired in-ear headphones

So far, those are the rumors that are swirling around the Samsung Galaxy Note10. The smartphone is expected to launch this August 7, 2019 so stay tuned to know more about the phone.
