Huawei Announces the arrival of the P30 on March 26

Aside from MWC 2019, Huawei is getting ready for the launch of their next smartphone focused on photography, the Huawei P30 series and the company has now announced in their Facebook account that the Huawei P30 will be launching in Paris, France this March 26.

The Huawei P series has been known and established as the smartphone for photography due to the partnership with Leica and with Huawei focusing on AI photography for a while now. The Huawei P20 Pro has decimated the DxOMark mobile and it has held the number 1 position for a while now. Actually, I’m one of the fans of the Huawei P20 series as I still use this smartphone for almost a year now.

Some of the features that we can expect on the Huawei P30 is the Kirin 980 chipset which is the newest processor of Huawei which is also used by the Huawei Mate 20 and we all know that Huawei is leading the 5G pack with its infrastructure and 5G chip Barong 5000 for smartphones.

The Huawei P30 series event will be held at Paris, France this March 27, 2019

The Samsung Galaxy S10 series is finally here and of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the official cases for the smartphones. As expected, we still have the cases and covers that we had on the previous Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices. But of course, there’s an additional cool case that was added on the Galaxy S10 series.

Silicone cover

So this is a basic case that we can find on almost all smartphones and the silicone cover protects all the sides of the smartphones and it also adds grip to the smartphone. But overall, it’s the most basic case that you can get for your Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ device.

Protective Standing Cover

This is a protective standing cover for all of their smartphones. Basically, it’s a case for your smartphone that protects it from bumps and drops with a design similar to a suitcase. Not only that, there’s a stand at the back too that you can use for watching movies

Looks like the smartphone industry is off to a great start with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Fold which is the company’s first foldable smartphone. It’s the best thing that we’ve seen from Samsung as they celebrate their Galaxy series this year. So what’s up with the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold breaks new ground as the foldable smartphone aims to change the game with its foldable display. But of course, that’s not the only the cool feature of the smartphone. It also packs some innovative features on the smartphone including 5G and it will have a monstrous specs inside with 7nm octa-core pr ocessiornside and also a 12GB of RAM with 512GB of internal storage.

Basically, the Samsung Galaxy Fold will have an outer display that you can fold like a spiral notebook. There’s a unique mechanical structure that lets you fold the smartphone flawlessly and with the unique app continuity, you can use an app on the smaller display then continue using it on the larger display. not only that, the smartphone will let you use three apps simultaneously.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with a 7.3-inch display with QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED as the main display and then there’s the 4.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED (21:9) cover display if you close the fold of the smartphone.

The  smartphone also features a six cameras. 3 on the on the back, 1 on the front, and two on the rear of the smartphone. I’m really curious on how this one fares in the camera department. You might wonder about the battery, well, the smartphones comes with a two batteries with a total of 4380mAh.

Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10, & S10+ Hands-On and First Impressions

We’re definitely excited for the Samsung Galaxy S10 series to come out. The smartphone is a big leap in their series since the Galaxy S8 to Galaxy S9 only added minimal changes on the smartphone. This time, we got three smartphones — Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+ and right now, these are the best smartphones that the company has to offer.

First things first let’s talk about the smartphone. Well, we have three smartphones that belongs in the Galaxy S10 series with the Galaxy S10e as lower tier in the family and then the Galaxy S10 which has larger display and better design and specifications and of course, the even larger Galaxy S10+ which is like the Galaxy S10 but with larger memory inside and a better dual lens front camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 series utilizes the new Infinity-O display which was announced earlier this year. Basically, there’s a hole punch display on the upper right of the smartphones with the Samsung Galaxy S10+ has a bigger hole because of the dual lens front camera. The Samsung Galaxy S10e has a 5.8-inch display while the Samsung Galaxy S10 has a 6.1-inch display while the Samsung Galaxy S10+ has a 6.4-inch display. And oh, finally Samsung now uses a 19:9 display aspect ratio on their smartphones

The display on the Samsung Galaxy S10 series is no ordinary display. The Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones feature an AMOLED display and it supports HDR 10+ which gives you a vibrant color even if the scenes are really dark.

All of the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones features a premium design with the Galaxy S10 and S10+ looking the same except the Plus version has a bigger display while the Galaxy S10e has a slightly different design and a different feel with no curved display unlike the Galaxy S10 and the S10+ which is a bummer. But hey, all of the smartphones still sport a USB-C port and a headphone jack. A feature that is getting rare on flagship smartphones.

The Galaxy S10e which is the most affordable in the series feels chunkier than the bigger two but don’t get me wrong because the Galaxy S10e still feels premium thanks to its glass build and with its curved back, the smartphone does feel like a flagship too despite having a flat display. And oh, there’s a dual lens camera at the back in which one of them is an ultra-wide angle lens.

While the Galaxy S10 and the S10+ are Samsung’s best smartphone today. Both smartphones pack a glass design and surprisingly, it does feel more premium than the Galaxy S10e despite having the same materials. The Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ are both premium to hold and actually, both smartphones have the best feel compared to all the smartphones that I’ve ever reviewed. Both smartphones are only at 7.8mm thin which feels slim, sexy and comfortable to the hand.

In-display fingerprint scanners are a thing now and with the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+, we now have these features which are the first in the Galaxy S series. The good thing about it? It’s now using Ultrasonic fingerprint authentication that recognizes the 3D characteristics of your fingerprint and in our hands-on, we were actually happy that the smartphone can recognize our fingerprint despite the light pressure on the display of the smartphone. However, I’m worried if screen protectors can affect the usage of the ultrasonic fingerprint scanners.

Again, the Samsung Galaxy S10e features a dual lens camera and it is comprised of a 12MP wide-angle lens with Dual Pixel, dual aperture & OIS and then there’s the 16MP 123-degrees ultra wide angle camera. Yep, they just adopted the wide-angle camera which we first saw on a Samsung smartphone on the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018). And then there’s the Dual Pixel AF with selfie 4K video recording. So yeah, this might be a vlogger’s dream phone.

While the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ feature the same 12MP and 16MP ultra wide angle lens but this time, there’s a 12MP telephoto lens in where you can do 2x optical zoom on the smartphones. However, on the front camera, we got the same one on the Galaxy S10e and Galaxy S10 but the Samsung Galaxy S10+ features the same camera of the two but with an additional 8MP depth sensor for better live focus effects. However, you don’t need to fret if you want the Galaxy S10e and Galaxy S10 as you can still do live focus on those smartphones, however, the Galaxy S10+ can do better and more accurate live focus shots. Another cool feature on the Galaxy S10 series is we got better night shots here as the smartphones support shooting modes for stabilizing photos.

Aside from that is we got a better scene recognition on the Galaxy S10 series. This time, the smartphones can now recognize up to 30 scene categories and in our experience, it does really help in getting better shots on the smartphone. And if you’re into shooting videos, the smartphone can shoot 4K@60fps which is really good and then there’s the selfie camera that can also do 4K recording. And if you’re curious about the camera, check out the shots that I took using the best of em’ all, the Galaxy S10+.

Inside the smartphone is an 8nm mobile chipset and in the Philippines, there’s a big possibility that we’re getting the Exynos variant instead of the Snapdragon and we tested the smartphone and we’re pretty happy that the smartphone is snappy, fast, and quick. We’ll get into more details about the Galaxy S10 series smartphones soon as we have a review.

When it comes to memory, the Galaxy S10 is a monster. The Samsung Galaxy S10e packs a 6GB RAM with 128GB storage while the Galaxy S10 packs an 8GB RAM with 128GB storage while the Samsung Galaxy S10+ is available in an 8GB/128GB variant, it also comes in a limited edition 12GB/1TB variant and yes, you can even add a MicroSD card on the smartphone. Jesus.

When it comes to battery life, the Galaxy S10e comes with 3100mAH battery, S10 with a 3400mAh battery and the S10+ with a 4100mAh battery and with the help of Adaptive power management, Samsung promises for a whole day of battery life. When we tried the smartphone, I noticed that the battery life decreases really slow which means that we could have a better battery life on the smartphone compared to the predecessor.

Another cool new feature on the Samsung Galaxy S10 series is the wireless powershare, basically, this feature lets you charge other devices that support Qi wireless charging. We tried charging a Samsung Galaxy S10 on the Galaxy S10+ and it works flawlessly. All you need to do is to activate the Wireless powershare and just place the device that you want to charge on the back of the Galaxy S10 smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 series will be available in different colors. The Galaxy S10e will be available in Prism white while the Galaxy S10 will be available Prism White and Prism Black while the Samsung Galaxy S10+ will be available in Prism white, Prism Black, Prism green, and Ceramic Black which is exclusive for the 1TB.

Overall, we’re happy with what we’ve seen on the Samsung Galaxy S10 series. The features that we got on the smartphones were really amazing. The camera has been upgraded, the build and design of the smartphones were really good, and the wireless powershare is really something that you can use especially if you have devices like the Galaxy watch or the Galaxy buds. The infinity-O display on the smartphones was really great and I love the colors that are popping out of it as it is really vivid and great.

As of this posting, we still don’t know the price yet but with the big upgrade from the Galaxy S9, I’m pretty happy with what we’re getting on the Galaxy S10 series. However, I would suggest that you go at least for the Galaxy S10 for the better camera, that hassle-free ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and larger RAM.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones are here and it’s not just two but three smartphones that belong in the family — Samsung Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+. Not only that, but 2019 is also the year in where Samsung celebrates its 10th year anniversary of the Galaxy smartphones so the smartphones are really special to Samsung. Want to know more about it? The Samsung Galaxy S10e is the most affordable of them all and it’s actually different among the three as it packs a slightly different design and then there’s a flat display instead of curved which are seen on most Galaxy S smartphones and then there’s a dual lens camera at the back in where one of them is an ultra-wide angle lens camera.

While the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ look and feel like the same except that the Galaxy S10+ has a bigger display and also an added front camera which is a depth sensor. These two smartphones pack a triple lens camera and Samsung likes to call the camera of the Galaxy S10 series as True Vision Multi-Camera.

We have an Infinity-O displays on these three smartphones however, the Galaxy S10e packs a flat display while the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ packs a curved display and all of them has a hole punch at the upper right of the display of the smartphones which is the front camera of the smartphone but the Galaxy S10+ has a larger hole punch due to the additional front camera which is actually a depth sensor.

Speaking of displays, these three smartphones pack a Super AMOLED display that can support HDR10+ with Dynamic tone mapping which gives as superior color accuracy and also a wide range of colors, even if the scenes are really dark. Unlike the iPhones, the screen sizes of Samsung smartphones aren’t confusing since we got a 5.8-inch display on the Samsung Galaxy S10e, 6.1-inch on the Samsung Galaxy S10, and a 6.4-inch on the Samsung Galaxy S10+. So it’s actually the bigger, the better.

When it comes to the camera, the Samsung Galaxy S10 series packs a Dual Pixel AF selfie cameras and it can actually record in 4K while the Galaxy S10+ has an additional 8MP depth sensor that you can use for better live focus effects.

At the back of the Samsung Galaxy S10e is a 12MP wide-angle lens with dual aperture, dual pixel, and OIS and a 16MP 123-degrees ultra wide angle fixed-focus camera. However, the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ feature the same cameras with additional 12MP Telephoto that is capable of 2x optical zoom and it also packs OIS and auto-focus. The Galaxy S10 smartphones can also take amazing night shots with its f1.5/f2.4 dual-aperture system and it now supports shooting modes for stabilizing photos which will give you better night shots. Another upgrade on the camera is the 30 scene recognition that is optimizing the colors of the shots.

While home buttons or fingerprint scanners are visually missing on the smartphone’s design, there’s actually a fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S10e which is placed on the power button similar to the Galaxy A7 (2018) that we’ve reviewed before while the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10e features an ultrasonic fingerprint authentication which is more accurate, fast, and secure. This is an in-display fingerprint scanner and can recognize the 3D characteristics of your fingerprint.

Inside these three smartphones is an 8nm chipset and as expected, we got better performance on this one and better consumption. Samsung has also upgraded the AI performance of the smartphone.

When it comes to storage options, the Samsung Galaxy S10 series comes big as the Galaxy S10e comes with a 6GB/128GB RAM and storage combo while the Samsung Galaxy S10 comes with an 8GB/128GB and the best of em’ all, the Galaxy S10+ comes with 8GB/128GB and a monstrous 12GB/1TB memory. Oh, and you can even add a microSD card slot on the smartphones too. So you can even reach up to 1.5TB of storage on the Galaxy S10+.

Samsung has also promised that the Galaxy S10 series can last a day of use in a single charge thanks to the adaptive power management of the trio smartphones. We got a 3100mAh battery on the Galaxy S10e, 3400mAh on the Galaxy S10, and a 4100mAh on the Galaxy S10+. The smartphones can actually optimize the battery usage based on the apps being used and the AI power saving mode automatically turns off and on based on your situation.

One of the amazing features that we can find on the Samsung Galaxy S10 series is the next-generation wireless charging on the smartphone. Not only that you can charge your smartphone wirelessly, but you can also charge other devices using Qi wireless charging. This is a great feature as one of their newest accessory, the Galaxy buds, can be charged wirelessly.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e will be available in Prism white while Galaxy S10 will be available in both prism white and prism black while the Samsung Galaxy S10+ will be available in prism black, prism white, prism green, and an exclusive ceramic black color for the 1TB variant.

Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus Review

When it comes to smartphones, Cherry Mobile is still the #1 in the game and they’ve been doing really well in the Philippines and of course, the company doesn’t want to be left out in the mid-range segment that’s why the company released the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus, their best smartphone yet. So what do we think of the smartphone? Check it out on our review of the smartphone below.

Yep, like what I’ve said earlier, the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus is the company’s best smartphone ever. Actually, this is the best Pinoy smartphone that we’ve ever reviewed as the Flare S7 Plus not only got the power but also the design that we all crave for on a local-branded smartphone.

First, let’s talk about the design of the smartphone. One of the biggest change that the company has done on this smartphone is the exclusion of the Cherry Mobile logo on the smartphone which is a plus for some people who prefer not to have their smartphone branded and wants to remain their smartphone brand’s anonymous.

Premium design and build

Don’t get fooled with the Cherry Mobile brand on this one because this one is really premium and really damn solid. Again, it’s the best one that we’ve ever reviewed. The back of the smartphone is covered with glass which feels really premium on the smartphone and then there’s the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone at the back too. Surprisingly, the back is clean from the logo of the brand and the camera was well placed at the top left of the smartphone with no protruding design.

The fingerprint scanner of the smartphone at the back is really fast which really surprises me as the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus even surpassed some international smartphone brands and the face unlock was just great on the smartphone. Actually, I barely use the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone as the face unlock of the smartphone is already enough and really fast.

The frame of the smartphone is also solid and thanks to the slight curve at the back of the smartphone, the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus does feel comfortable to hold and I do have a good grip of the smartphone, though, it wasn’t the best one.

The smartphone also comes with a USB-C port below that supports 10W fast charging or you can opt for the 5W Qi wireless charging. Yep, there’s a wireless charger on a mid-range smartphone from Cherry Mobile which is really awesome.

Unfortunately, the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus ditches the headphone jack in favor of the USB-C dongle. Don’t worry because Cherry Mobile does provide a dongle out of the box so you won’t have to worry about using your smartphone for your favorite Spotify playlist.

A fine display

I was actually surprised that the smartphone does sport a notch. Well, it’s not the most ideal notch on the smartphone market right now but it’s something that you can appreciate as Cherry Mobile does have a good implementation of the notch on the smartphone. You can actually turn it off by just swiping down and I really didn’t have any problems with running apps on the notch of the smartphone.

Cherry Mobile calls the display of the smartphone as a TrueView IPS display with Full HD+ resolution and 19:9 display aspect ratio. The 6.2-inch display of the smartphone is actually fine and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The display quality of the smartphone is really fine, viewing angles are good and the colors are really fine on the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus.

Battery life needs improvement

While we love the build and the specs of the smartphone, we find the 3000mAh battery of the smartphone lacking for some people. We benchmarked the smartphone using PC Mark for its battery and we got a score of 6 hours and 2 minutes which may not be able to last a day of use to some heavy users.

Decent performance

The smartphone is definitely one of the most affordable smartphones out there with Helio P60 chipset and the benchmarks that we got? we’re pretty happy with it on synthetic benchmarks and also on real-life gaming tests. HD Settings – High Frame Rate – No AA

As seen in the benchmark, the smartphone managed to have a great FPS stability however, ultra settings (40fps) isn’t available in the smartphone. Nonetheless, the smartphone is really a performer.

Bloated UI

There’s no bloated Cherry OS on the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus but the smartphone definitely feels bloated with applications and customizations. I find the customizations of the UI of the smartphone a little bit messy to me including the elements and sizing. There are also some pre-installed apps that you probably won’t use but don’t worry, there’s a decent 64GB internal storage so you won’t have to worry about that one.

But thankfully, despite the cluttered UI of the smartphone, the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus feels snappy and it has fewer bugs compared to previous software of Cherry Mobile smartphones. Also, the cluttered launcher of the smartphone can be easily fixed with just a 3rd party launcher. Ta-da! Problem solved.

The best camera on a Cherry Mobile smartphone

We took the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus for a spin in Japan last year and we were really surprised that the shots that we got on the smartphone were great. Yep, everything was mostly great on the shots that took on the smartphone. We got decent colors, the low light shots on the smartphone was fine and I was actually satisfied with the selfies that I took. Verdict

This is the best Cherry Mobile smartphone yet. Actually, this is the best local-branded smartphone ever. The Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus can definitely compete with most mid-range smartphones out there in the market despite the tough competition. We love the build quality of the smartphone and the exclusion of the logo is a plus for some people who don’t want their smartphone to be branded as a local brand.

The Helio P60 octa-core chipset also performs and the camera of the smartphone was just fine. However, some of you might find the battery of the smartphone lacking but bringing a powerbank with you will solve the problem. Another thing that I didn’t like about the smartphone is its UI. It’s cluttered and feels like a little bit messy but a 3rd party launcher like NOVA launcher will fix the problem.

LG V50 ThinQ for Sprint 5G Leaks Out

Evan Blass has posted another leak and this time it’s for the LG V50 ThinQ 5G. The smartphone is expected to be unveiled this February at MWC 2019 in Barcelona, Spain. So yeah, it’s actually a surprise for everyone as nobody expects a 5G variant of the LG V50 this soon.

In case you didn’t know, the smartphone will be powered by Sprint’s 5G network. The telecom company has announced its partnership with LG way back last year so it’s already expected to have a smartphone like this powered by Sprint’s 5G.

The LG V50 ThinQ is expected to have a triple lens rear camera along with a dual front camera. The smartphone is still using a fingerprint scanner at the back and inside, there’s a 4000mAh battery, vapor chamber cooling and it will have a Qualcomm X50 5G modem.

Here’s good news to Battle royale fans. EA is reportedly interested in bringing APEX Legends, the newest and hottest free to play game, to mobile devices. Yep, EA wants to bring this to the hands of every gamer according to the company during their Q3 2019 earnings call.

CEO Andrew Wilson has mentioned that the company is looking into bringing the game to smartphones and to have a crossplay over time. So the development hasn’t probably started but it’s interesting that EA is already looking into it despite the game’s heavy minimum requirements for mobile.

The secrets are out and it is now confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 9 will arrive soon and the company executives themselves have been leaking out about the smartphone. Donovan Sung, the Global spokesperson, and director of Product Management at Xiaomi, has posted some details about their upcoming smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 9.

The company executive has confirmed that the smartphone will indeed sport a Snapdragon 855 chipset which is set to make waves on flagship smartphones this year and then there will be an in-display fingerprint scanner too. Donovan has also posted a picture of the back of the Xiaomi Mi9 showing a shimmering rainbow color at the back of the smartphone and a triple lens rear camera.

For now, those are the only details that we know about the smartphone. Stay tuned for more updates about Xiaomi Mi 9 as the company is expected to launch their smartphones there on February 24.
