Global Brands Eye more R&D investment on Developing Camera Phone technology

0

The age of digital photography is currently at its peak, and continues to grow even faster with the emergence of innovations brought about by mobile devices. Contrary to the previous trend of high-quality cameras packed with heavy duty equipment, the name of the game in today’s field of photography is handiness brought about by the massive popularity of smartphones.

As the market’s interest in digital photography continues to grow, many of the big names in the tech industry are quick to make the most out of this trend. Global consumer electronics leader Samsung have been reported to invest approximately USD13.4B over the past two years in research and development (R&D) of its core technologies, making it as the second largest company in terms of R&D investment and even outdoing its rival, Apple. A huge bulk of these technologies is comprised of camera engineering, a feature that has helped the tech giant cement its reputation as one of the major players in the industry.

Fellow tech brand Huawei decided to foster a partnership with another tech game changer to gain advantage over its competitors. In April 2016, the Chinese tech firm unveiled the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus to the global market. Both phones boast of dual-lens cameras co-engineered with the number one premium camera manufacturer, Leica.  These two cameras are created to serve different but complementary functions: one being RBG with the other in Black and White in order to enhance image details and improve contrast values for better photo quality. Dual lens camera technology is increasingly becoming more popular among consumers as it opens up a whole new world of possibilities for digital photography: higher quality of focus, better perspective, and more visible depth of field. With the rise of such innovation, consumer preference now shifts beyond the usual megapixel count.

Five months after this announcement came the creation of a joint R&D lab, located at the global headquarters of Leica at Wetzlar, Germany. The facility is named Max Berek Innovation Lab, after the renowned German inventor of the first ever Leica lens. The research center was specifically built to develop “software-based technologies to improve imaging quality in a wide range of photographic and mobile device applications.” Through this partnership, the two companies plan to further explore the capabilities of mobile photography in the fields of optical systems, virtual reality, and augmented reality.

The dual lens camera movement quickly gained momentum as proven by the introduction of the iPhone 7 Plus.

With these initiatives by global key players in the industry, more consumer electronic brands are expected to dedicate more of their investments in the development of camera technology and photography processing. The market can expect more cutting-edge smartphone offerings that would promise even higher quality cameras, and blur the lines between amateur and professional photography output.

ASUS Zen AIO Pro Review

0

We’ve reviewed the ASUS Zen AIO before and we enjoyed it even though the unit that we were trying out was an engineering unit, meaning, the unit that we were trying out wasn’t the final unit that will be out in the market. But in this rev tiew, we finally geto try out the ASUS Zennit AIO Pro again but this time, it’s the u that we’ll be seeing on the market.

asus-zen-aio-pro-10

The design of the ASUS Zen AIO is very similar to the Zenfone 2. It actually has the same design language and also the same Zen genes from the former flagship of ASUS. It has the brushed metal look at the back and then there’s the concentric circle design on the front just below the display.

asus-zen-aio-pro-14

It also has chamfered edges on the sides which makes the Zen AIO Pro look really premium. Since this is an AIO, it’s a little bit thick but the design is very clean but in case you’re planning on bringing this everywhere, this will be a bit heavy for you guys.

asus-zen-aio-pro-1

The 4K display of the AIO looks fantastic however I cannot say that this one has the best display than other all-in-ones but this one has vivid colors and it is really damn sharp. It’s really good to use the display for editing videos and photos. In this review unit that we got, there’s no touchscreen but the display looks sharp and really crisp thanks to the 4K resolution.

asus-zen-aio-pro-8

The ASUS Zen AIO Pro doesn’t lack connectivity too as this one has 2x HDMI, USB 3.0 and even a USB Type-C. There’s a built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on this one too and it performs really well. There’s an included keyboard antd mouse too out of he box but unfortunately, I was experiencing disconnections with it sometimes.

asus-zen-aio-pro-3

asus-zen-aio-pro-7

The performance of the ASUS Zen AIO Pro is top-notch. This one comes with an Intel Core i7-6700T and 16GB of RAM. For the graphics department, there’s the Nvidia GTX 960m GPU. Well, I wish that they could update the Zen AIO Pro soon so that we can get to see the Pascal-based GPU architecture on this one. But nonetheless, the performance of the Zen AIO Pro was great. Playing games on this one at the highest settings on 1920×1080, I would get these framerates.

Overall, the ASUS Zen AIO Pro is a good alternative to the iMac. It is more powerful and this one can really play heavy games unlike the latter. The ASUS Zen AIO Pro doesn’t lack ports too as this one also brings USB Type-C. So who is this for? I know that most of you would tell me that you can get a better PC by just building one. Well, guys, I think the ASUS Zen AIO Pro is for the designers who are looking for a great display, also, it is best for people who are into All-in-ones and people who want minimalist desks.

Top 5 reasons why I like the OPPO F1s

0

OPPO is definitely one of the hottest brand in the country this year. The brand got really popular with their smartphones that are focused on being the selfie expert which made the brand the top choice for people who are really into selfies. A few months ago, OPPO has unveiled the midrange OPPO F1s which also has a main focus on selfies. We think the OPPO F1s is a great smartphone for selfies, so what are the things that make the smartphone really interesting?

1. Design

Most of the OPPO F1s users that I know love the smartphone’s design. It’s sleek, sexy, and the phone actually feels like it’s more than a midrange. The aluminum body is something to love in this smartphone and the curves are very comfortable to the hand. The OPPO F1s is definitely an attractive smartphone.

2. Hardware

The OPPO F1s might not be the most powerful smartphone from the company but it does have the power to run most applications and games without a hitch. There’s an octa-core MT6750 processor and 3GB of RAM which is more than enough for most consumers and then there’s the fingerprint sensor for added security

3. Software

One of the things that I love with OPPO smartphones despite not having a vanilla Android is that their software is fast and easy to use. The ColorOS is very user-friendly and it’s responsive compared to most smartphones at its price range.

4. Price

Some of you might not agree with me but the OPPO F1s has the right price for its hardware. I mean, it’s a mid-ranger smartphone and if you’re looking for a selfie smartphone, you wouldn’t shell out too much money for the OPPO F1s as this smartphone will only cost you P12,990

5. The selfie camera, duh

Dude, the OPPO F1s is one of the best smartphones for taking selfies. It has a dedicated 16-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture which allows you to have brighter and better selfies. Another thing, the OPPO F1s has Beautify 4.0 that reduces blemishes and also have smoother and better selfies.

The Gear Fit2 packs a rubber band with a sporty look which looks better especially if you’re on the athletic side. The bands can be interchangeable and you can buy one from Samsung store. Compared to the first generation, this one is bigger. However, I really had a hard time with its band as this one sometimes pop off from my wrist. But hey, they’re still fashionable and really sporty.

This one also has a curved display and whether you have a small or large wrists, I believe that this one feels and looks just right for you. Compared to the previous Galaxy Fit, this one has a bigger and wider display that can show more information on the display. The Gear Fit2 is a really good fitness tracker as this one can track different activities such as running, hiking, cycling, exercise bike, treadmill, squats, and much more. Oh and the best thing about this? You don’t have to set the Gear Fit2 when you’re running as this one can determine that you are running already. And yes, the Gear Fit 2 is really accurate when it comes to tracking.

The Gear Fit2 also reminds you that you should stand up if you’ve been seating for too long. The device also lets you record the glasses of water that you’ve drink and also the glasses of coffee that you drink for the day.

gear-fit2-10

A single charge of the Samsung Gear Fit2 lets you have up to 3 days of battery life. However, if you’re always on the go, you’ll have to bring the charger dock with you.  But hey, I think the battery life of the Gear Fit2 is really impressive.

gear-fit2-1

To connect the Gear Fit2 to your smartphone, you’ll have to download the Gear App and also the plugin that lets you connect the Gear Fit2. The app lets you customize your watch and also its settings. And yes, you’ll have to turn on the Bluetooth of the smartphone in order to connect the Gear Fit 2 to the smartphone.gear-fit2-12

The Gear Fi 2 is a good fitness tracker and it can really compete with other fitness trackers that are out there such as Fitbit and Jawbone. But this one offers a beautiful curve display, offers more features and it tracks more accurately. The Samsung did a pretty good job for the Gear Fit 2.
