ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 Review

0

Recently, ASUS Philippines has outed their newest Windows notebook that has a touchscreen and a 360 flip design similar to what we’ve reviewed before, the ASUS Transformer Book Flip but this time, the notebook is now powered by a better hardware and it is much better than the Transformer Book Flip. Do you want to know more about it? Check out my review below.

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 2

It’s metal and it’s gorgeous

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 10

The VivoBook Flip TP301 starts at P22,995 and for its features, the laptop is affordable. But despite starting at a low price, the ASUS Transformer Book Flip still manages to have a metal chassis which is really solid. However, the laptop’s bottom plate is still made up of plastic but don’t worry, the laptop still feels very solid overall.

Vivobook Flip composure

The laptop’s main selling point is its 360-degree swivelling hinge that lets you use the laptop in different ways. You can use it in laptop mode, tent mode, stand mode and tablet mode. And on Tent mode and Stand mode, the hinge works pretty well and they just work perfectly.

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 7

And since this laptop can be swiveled and use as a tablet, the volume rocker and the power button is strategically placed on the sides. And thankfully, that comes pretty handy especially when I’m using the laptop in tablet mode

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 9

The stereo speakers of the laptop come with ASUS’ Sonicmaster technology and yes, it was good as I don’t need an extra speaker most of the time when I’m watching movies but I notice that the trebles were high and the bass wasn’t too prevalent. ASUS is claiming that the laptop would have a battery life of up to 10 hours but in my use, I was able to get 7-8 hours of average use. Not bad.

Comfortable keys, spacious trackpad

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 5

The ASUS Transformer Book TP301 also has a spacious trackpad. Yes, the trackpad is spacious and it works well with gestures but it is still far from perfect. Clicking on the trackpad still requires more pressure that I used to but don’t worry, it still works well.

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 6

The keyboard is very familiar. It’s soft, comfortable and really easy to type on. I actually love the keyboards of ASUS notebooks because they’re really soft and I really prefer that on my laptops, however, one thing that I don’t really like with it is it lacks a backlit keys which is really a bummer especially that I always type in the dark.

It doesn’t lack connectivity

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 8

The ASUS VivoBook Flip TP301 doesn’t lack in connectivity too. The laptop has 2x USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0,HDMI, headphone jack, SD Card reader and surprisingly, there’s a USB Type-C port in here. Transferring files from the isn’t a problem too because USB 3.0 is really fast in here and in case you got a USB Type-C device around, you could also use that one to transfer files from or to the laptop.

The display isn’t good

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 11

This is probably the dealbreaker of this laptop, the display of the laptop is terrible. The laptop only has a 1366×768 display and it doesn’t have good viewing angles. Since this one has a glossy display, using this laptop outside would be problematic since glares are really noticeable on this laptop.

It can PLAY GAMES

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 4

The one that we’re reviewing right now is the laptop with 2.3GHz Core i5-6200U, 4GB of RAM, 1TB HDD, and Nvidia GeForce 920m GPU. Yes, it is powered by the latest Skylake processor with Nvidia GeForce graphics but don’t worry, the laptop’s specs is already enough for some users who are not into heavy usage gaming.

But for those people who are planning to play games on this laptop, yes, this laptop could run most of the games that you wanted to play including modern games. In my test, I was able to play Fallout 4 at lowest settings with a 25-35 fps while Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain was also playable with 35-45fps in medium settings.

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 14

Overall, the laptop doesn’t disappoint in performance and most modern games would be playable on the VivoBook Flip TP301 however, you can only play it at low-mid settings.

It comes with bloatwares

Just like any other laptop, the ASUS VivoBook Flip TP301 comes with bloatwares. Some of the included software in the laptop are McAffee, ASUS Giftbox, TripAdvisor, FoxIT Phantom PDF, WildTangent games and more but I strongly suggest that you uninstall most of it to get more storage and faster performance

Verdict

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP301 3

The laptop comes with a feature that some laptop doesn’t have — a 360-degree swiveling display. The performance of the laptop is great, the build is really solid and it’s a really good laptop, however, if you want a laptop with a good looking display then better look away from this laptop. The display is the only thing that you would really hate in this laptop.

The good thing about this laptop is its price. If you don’t have the Php 40,995 for this Core i5 variant then you can get the smaller Vivobook Flip with a P22,995 price tag or if you want, you can get better performance with the Core i3 variant.

The ASUS Vivobook Flip is now available nationwide.

Tronsmart accessories arrives in the Philippines

0

One of the biggest features added on new chipsets from most manufacturers is fast charging. This feature lets you charge your smartphone at a faster time compared to normal charger and recently, Cosmic technologies brought Tronsmart to our country.

car charger

Tronsmart is a brand that offers different chargers and powerbanks for your smartphones and tablets. And what make Tronsmart’s chargers different from others is that they offer fast chargers and also Type-C cables which will be standard soon.

powerbank

Actually, I’ve been using their 3-port fast charger for a while now and I’m really happy with how it performs. There’s a single fast-charging port for supported devices and then there are two ports that supports VoltIQ which detects the device’s needed power.

fast charger

Not only that, they’re also selling 5-port fast chargers with 2 port for fast charging and the rest with VoltIQ.

Tronsmart got a pretty good chargers and if you ask me what’s the difference of Tronsmart chargers between other chargers? Well, these chargers from Tronsmart can charge your devices faster and they really have a good quality.

Tronsmart accessories will be available soon on Cherry Mobile stores, kiosks and authorized resellers

With the Cherry Mobile VR, not only that you’ll get a VR headset but you’ll also get a
bluetooth controller that you can use to navigate and click when using VR which is more reliable than a button on the vr headset itself.

The Cherry Mobile VR is now available for P1,200.

ASUS Zenfone Zoom Review

0
Before the ASUS Zenfone Zoom even got launched here in the Philippines, I was able to try this smartphone out. It’s the most premium Zenfone out there thanks to its premium build and also a camera that features optical zooming. Do you want to know more about it? Well, continue reading my review.
DSC03057
Leather and metal blend well
DSC03068
DSC03082
According to ASUS, the Zenfone Zoom is the thinnest smartphone with optical zoom. This is also the only ASUS Zenfone to pack a solid metal frame and a leather back that gives you the impression that the ASUS Zenfone Zoom is really a premium smartphone.
DSC03067
Compared to the other Zenfones that we’ve reviewed before, the ASUS Zenfone Zoom doesn’t have the volume buttons placed at the back to give way to the camera at the back. Again, this smartphone packs optical zoom that’s why the camera needs to take a lot of space from the smartphone.
DSC03062
There’s a leather back cover and it feels better than most leather back covers that I’ve seen and tried on a smartphone. Inside the back cover is where you can find the non-removable battery, MicroSD card slot and also a single sim card slot. Yep, the ASUS Zenfone Zoom only opt for a single sim card slot compared to its Zenfone brothers.
DSC03066
Another cool feature of the ASUS Zenfone Zoom is its physical buttons for the shutter button and record button and by holding these buttons, it will redirect you to the camera app. The ASUS Zenfone Zoom also comes with a camera strap which can be also tied into the smartphone so you won’t drop the smartphone in case you’re planning to take a video or a photo.
DSC03063
Still the same display

DSC03078
The ASUS Zenfone Zoom still sports the same display from its Zenfone brothers. The ASUS Zenfone Zoom has a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display. Yes, the display looks great just like the other Zenfones and the colors were pretty spot on. I got no problems with it but there was also no improvement from the other Zenfones.
Same ol’ Intel processor and ZenUI

The ASUS Zenfone Zoom has almost the same specifications of the ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition. Both smartphones are powered by a Quad-Core Intel Atom Z3590 processor which is faster than the original Zenfone and then there’s the 4GB of RAM. Yes, the chipset is powerful and the 4GB of RAM is more than enough for most people. Navigating over the ZenUI is pretty much the same, it’s fast, fluid and I had no problems with it.
DSC03050
For those who aren’t familiar with the Intel Atom Processor inside the ASUS Zenfone Zoom, the smartphone is powerful enough to run most of the basic tasks and apps on your smartphones and in case you’re planning on playing heavy games, the ASUS Zenfone Zoom can handle it though, I cannot assure you that you can run most games at full speed.
Some of the games that I’ve tried playing on the ASUS Zenfone Zoom are Minecraft and NBA 2k16. In Minecraft, I didn’t have too many problems playing with it and the game was smooth even if the game already renders too many objects in-game. In NBA 2k16, it is only playable when you set the graphics at the lowest settings. In Antutu, I got a score of 66160 which is not that bad for its hardware.
The camera prowess
DSC03059

The main feature and the smartphone’s selling are its cameras. Yes, it is one of the few cameraphones out there with optical zooming and currently, this is the thinnest smartphone with optical zoom. As a vlogger, one of my biggest feature on its camera is the OIS. This feature lets you have a smoother and more stabilize videos even with a shaky recording. So how does the 13-megapixel rear camera perform?
DSC03055
Well, it isn’t as good as the best cameras out there but with its manual mode, you could have more options and you can even shoot better photos. With the Manual mode of the ASUS Zenfone Zoom, you’ll be able to control the focus, shutter speed, ISO, Exposure value and the white balance. When using auto mode, most of the shots that I took are a little bit overexposed that’s why I have to set a lower exposure value.
Focusing on the ASUS Zenfone Zoom isn’t a problem thanks to its laser autofocus, however, it tends to be slower in low-light conditions. Most of the shots that I took were detailed and a bit sharp an when it comes to optical zoom, the ASUS Zenfone Zoom can really amaze you. No details are lost and the images tend to be clear with the 3x optical zoom of the ASUS Zenfone Zoom. Check out the photos that I took using the ASUS Zenfone Zoom.
Battery Life is short

The ASUS Zenfone Zoom has a 3000mAh battery. It’s non-removable and in my use, I notice that you have to bring a powerbank with you all of the time. The ASUS Zenfone Zoom was able to last more than half a day in my usage but it isn’t enough for me for a whole day of use. So again, Better bring your powerbank or your chargers with you all of the time.

Verdict

The ASUS Zenfone Zoom is really a premium smartphone compared to its Zenfone brothers due to its better hardware and a better build quality that comprise of leather and metal. Its camera is its biggest feature but it falls short of my expectations but I really applaud the smartphone’s ability to do 3x optical zooming even without taking too much space from the smartphone.
So for who do I recommend it? Well, if you’re looking for a camera smartphone then there are only a few that’ll be on your list and that includes the ASUS Zenfone Zoom. This smartphone may not be the best in the camera department but you can shoot in manual mode and it does have an optical zooming that you might love. Oh and don’t worry about its performance because the ASUS Zenfone Zoom is pretty good too.
The ASUS Zenfone Zoom is now available for P26,995
