Top 5 apps for College students

0

Before, most of us are relying on the newspaper for the latest news while for students, we always have to copy notes that were written on the board. But today, the arrival of apps has changed the way we used to live. It’s now easier to copy notes and to make homeworks wherever we are as long as we have our smartphone or our tablet on our bags. So what are these apps that are helping college students do our schoolworks easier?

Camscanner

It is one of the most amazing apps that I’ve used on a smartphone. Basically, this application lets you scan documents and photos using only your camera. After taking a photo, it will automatically crop your document and it will automatically fix your image to make it look like it was scanned in a scanner. Another good thing about it is you can convert the images that you took into a pdf file.

Onedrive

Whenever we want to share our documents or powerpoints to our classmates, most of the time we use our flash drives. But c’mon guys, it’s 2015 already. There is a big risk in saving your files on a flash drive because not only you can lose your files or share viruses with other computers but once you lose your flash drives, you’ll lose your files forever. That’s why cloud is more reliable. Why? Because as long as you have an internet connection, you’ll be able to access your documents anywhere. Not only that, you could also do collaboration on your thesis and projects using Office online.

Onenote

Unlike Onedrive, Onenote is really made for students who loves to take notes and draw scribbles on their notebooks. With Onenote, you’ll be able to draw and type notes on your virtual notebook. You could also organize these notebooks and share them with your friends and classmates.

Pocket

This is a great application if you have assignments and lectures that you’ve saw in the internet but you want to access it when you’re offline. So basically, all you need is to get the link of the page and it will automatically save in your pocket app and you could access the saved page even if you’re offline.

Office For Mobile

Well, we know we can’t create our thesis or our presentations without any office suites and thankfully, Microsoft Office is finally available on Android and iOS tablets for free. However, you’ll have a different experience from the tablet counterparts if you’re using a smartphone. On tablets, you’ll have most of the essential features that you need on Office. The interface looks great and currently, this is the best office suite for mobile. This one is also connected to your Onedrive that’s why you could open and save your documents on the cloud as easy as 1-2-3.

All of these apps are available at the Play Store and the App store.

0

Today, Apple has unveiled the new members of the Mac family. Yes, Apple has reinvented the notebook again with their new Macbook that comes in Gold color! HOLY SHIZ YES, the new Macbook is so thin and it comes in a new gold color! This is the thinnest Macbook at 13.1mm and also the lightest at 2 pounds. The new Macbook has a 12-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2304×1440 however, we’ve noticed that the USB ports are gone and it was replaced by a Type-C MicroUSB.

Force touch is also one of the new features on the new Macbook’s trackpad and it can offer you different new gestures. Apple has also told that their newest Macbook is now fanless and it is powered by Intel Core M processor. According to Apple, you could have an all-day battery life on this one. That’s up to 9 hours web browsing.

Apple doesn’t want wires in their future devices and they ditched all the ports and just used one and it is the USB Type-C. Yep, this one can be charged using the type-C cable. Not sure if there will be Type-C to USB ports that’ll available soon.

The new Macbook comes in Space grey, Silver and Gold. Unfortunately, the new Macbook starts at $1299. Damn that’s expensive.

Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph Review

26

Last year, Cherry Mobile has introduced their first Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 devices and one of them is the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph. Actually, the Alpha series wasn’t the first Windows devices of Cherry Mobile. A few years ago, Cherry Mobile introduced the Eclipse smartphones which are powered by Windows Mobile 6. Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph is one of their first Windows 8 tablets and no, you can’t run Android on this tablet but you can certainly run apps and games for Windows like Warcraft III & Adobe Photoshop.

Hardware

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Unlike the Cherry Mobile Alpha Play that I’ve reviewed before, this one doesn’t have a metal body. This one has a rubber matte body and it is a little bit thicker compared to other Windows 8.1 tablets. This one also comes with a keyboard cover just like the Microsoft Surface. This keyboard cover doesn’t have a storage or an extra battery inside but this one serves as a stand for the tablet.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The keys are a little bit cramped but I already expected that since this is just a 10.1-inch tablet. There’s a small trackpad too which is a little bit of a problem because you have to use the fn key to do right . The trackpad is quite small but again, you should remember that Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph is just a 10.1-inch device.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The connectivities of the tablet can be found on the left side of the tablet and compared to the smaller Cherry Mobile Alpha Play, this one doesn’t have a USB 3.0 port and it doesn’t come with a USB OTG out of the box.  You can also find the MicroSD card slot,  Mini HDMI port and the 3.5mm audio jack here. Unfortunately, there’s no 3G on this tablet.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One thing that annoys me is the capacitive Windows button because whenever you accidentaly touch it, it will automatically wake up the tablet. That’s why my battery drains faster whenever I just put the tablet on sleep and put it on my bag. That’s quite annoying especially when you don’t have your charger with you.

Inside the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph is a Quad-Core Intel Atom Z3735D Processor, 2GB of RAM and there’s a 32GB of storage inside which might be small for some people because you know, Windows takes too much space. But don’t worry, there’s a MicroSD card slot on this tablet to help you with that problem.

Display

Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph sports a 10.1-inch HD display. The resolution of the display can’t match most of the flagship Android tablets and iPads these days but I still like the display of the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There are two things why the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph only sport an HD display – First, the lower the resolution, the lower the cost and the lower the resolution, the lesser the power consumption. The colors of the display and its viewing angles are good however, when outside, the display isn’t really visible under direct sunlight.

Battery Life

The Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph got an 8000mAh of battery. The numbers might be great but it wasn’t impressive as I thought. At 50% brightness with all the connectivites turned on, you can get a  4 hours of battery life. If you compared it to an Android tablet or iPad, the battery life is a little bit short but hey, you should remember that this one is running on Windows 8.1 and you could run games and applications for Windows.

However, if you’re a heavy user and you’re playing some heavy games you might get a battery life of 1-2 hours so whenever you have the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph, be sure to have that charger in your bag too.

Software and Performance

The biggest selling point of the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph is its operating system. Since this one is powered by Windows 8.1, you’ll be able to  run different applications and games like Microsoft Word and Warcraft III. Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph also comes with Office 365 but it will expire for 1 year so I would recommend you guys to get a 32-bit version of Microsoft Office 2013.

As for the games, there aren’t too much games that can be played on this tablet. Remember, the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph is only powered by a Quad-Core Intel Atom processor and a 2GB of RAM and there’s a 32GB of Internal Storage too which might not be enough for the tablet and for your games so I is really recommended for you guys to get a 32GB MicroSD card or more because I’m pretty sure that the 32GB of internal storage isn’t enough for you.

Some of the games that I’ve managed to run and play on the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph are:

  • CS:GO
  • Warcraft III
  • Simcity IV
  • DOTA 2
  • NBA 2k14

Verdict

Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph are just one of the affordable Windows devices out there but compared to other devices, this one comes with a keyboard sleeve. The software needs to be ironed out from bugs but it’s a decent Windows tablet that is probably great for students especially for having their theses but as a desktop replacement? You might have some problems with the power and its storage. Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph is now available at Cherry Mobile stores, kiosks and authorized resellers nationwide.

Gionee Elife S7: A powerful flagship at 5.5mm thin

0

Last MWC 2015, Gionee has introduced the Gionee Elife S7, their newest flagship smartphone that packs a sexy and thin profile but still boast a very powerful hardware inside. Gionee Elife S7 has the same thickness of the Gionee Elife S5.5 which is at 5.5mm but this one runs on a more powerful 64-bit Octa-core MT6752 CPU and there’s a 5.2-inch 1080p display. This isn’t Gionee’s slimmest smartphone but c’mon, this is a sub 6mm smartphone and yet, this one got a very powerful specs. Check out the full specs of  the phone below.

Gionee Elife S7 Specs

  • 5.2-inch 1920×1080 AMOLED Display
  • 64-bit MediaTek MT6752 processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB Internal storage
  • 13-Megapixel Rear Camera
  • 8-Megapixel Front Camera
  • Bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi
  • GPS
  • LTE
  • Android 5.0
  • 5.5mm thickness
  • 2750mAh Battery

The design of the smartphone is very similar to the Gionee Elife S5.5 but this one has more curves and they lose the capacitive buttons and the protruding camera at the back. I think it is reasonable that there’s no MicroSD card slot and a non-removable battery on this one because of its thickness. What I like about Gionee is that they focus not only on the design but also on the processing power of the phone. Gionee Elife S7 is expected to be priced at $450 or at P19,940.

Sony Unveils its new Project Morpheus Protoype for PS4

0

Virtual Reality or VR is the next thing in gaming and if you didn’t know yet, Sony has introduced Project Morpheus last year. It’s a virtual reality headset that is designed for the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita however, Project Morpheus is still in-development but the latest prototype was unveiled in GDC 2015 at San Francisco.

The new prototype of the Project Morpheus features a 5.7-inch 1920×1080 OLED display that gives less motion blur and flicker which is great because it tends to give us less headache when using the VR headset and yes, there’s a 120 fps output thanks to the power of the PS4 and the high refresh rate of the OLED display. The new Project Morpheus is also more accurate and it has reduced the latency of the VR headset to the rendering of the display. That’s an awesome upgrade since latency is one crucial thing when it comes to gaming.

Project Morpheus is expected to be developed and it is expected to be launched in the first half of 2016

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Hands-on

2

20150302_023520

Okay, so last week, we’ve seen the most beautiful Galaxy smartphones ever and yes, these are the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. These are the newest flagship smartphones of Samsung and yes, they pack a hardware and design that is really amazing. The new flagship smartphones of Samsung packs an octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED display. These new smartphones also pack a better camera and Samsung boasts that both the rear and front camera of the smartphone can outmatch the camera of most flagships in the market.

20150302_02372220150302_02365420150302_023529

Last year, Samsung Galaxy Alpha was one the best designed smartphone made by Samsung and the design trend was followed by the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the A series. This time, the design of the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be the benchmark of every Galaxy smartphones this year.

20150302_023752

At the back of the smartphone, there’s the Gorilla glass 4 back panel which makes the phone look more premium but there’s a protruding camera that still looks elegant because of its chrome edges and the sides of the Samsung Galaxy S6 looks similar to the iPhone 6 that’s why the smartphone easily slips on my hand but compared to the latter, I had more grip on this one. The back is made up of Gorilla Glass 4 and it attracts too much fingerprint smudges that’s why you have to clean it more often.

20150302_023659

The UI in the Samsung Galaxy S6 is noticeably speedier and more responsive compared to the previous generations however the interface is still the same. Another noticeable improved feature on the Samsung Galaxy S6 is the improved fingerprint sensor that works better than Apple’s TouchID why? because you don’t have to swipe your finger anymore. Instead, you just have to tap your finger just like the one on Apple.

20150302_024132

These are the best looking Android smartphones so far. The choice of colors and materials are really premium and I hope that they could bring these designs to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

20150302_024113The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge that’ve had a hands-on are just prototypes so there might some slight changes once the units are out Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be available globally on April 10.
