We were invited by Samsung Philippines to witness the launch of their newest flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S6. The design and hardware inside it is a big leap from their previous smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5. Their newest flagship smartphone packs a lot of new features including a brand new design with metal build and an amazing processor.

 

Aside from the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edgem they’ve also unveiled their newest service, Samsung Pay which will counter Apple Pay. Samsung is also proud that their UI is now simpler and it is now lag-free. The new UI also sports some simple but cool features like colors on contacts and shortcuts. Some of the cool features that you can see on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are the new design, bright camera, super and wireless charging, better technology, mobile payment and enhanced security.

 

The new design of the Samsung Galaxy S6 combines the beauty of glass and metal and according to them, this one won’t bend compared to the iPhone 6 Plus because the metal that was used in this smartphone is stronger than other flagship smartphones.  The new camera performs really well especially at low-light and no, they’ve improved both the front and rear camera of the Samsung Galaxy S6.

 

One of the biggest features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was fast charging and at Samsung Galaxy S6, they’ve improved it and when you charged your Samsung Galaxy S6 for 10 minutes, you could use your Samsung Galaxy S6 for 4 hours. That’s pretty cool, right? Not only that, wireless charger is already built-in the Samsung Galaxy S6. But unfortunately, the battery is non-removable. Samsung is also proud that their newest smartphone is thin and light at 6.8mm and (138g /132g edge) respectively.  This one also uses an LPDDR4 memory system and a 14nm 64-bit processor.

 

And yes folks, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are beautiful. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will be available globally starting from April 10, 2015 with 32/64/128GB storage options available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only).

It’s been a while since I’ve used a powerful laptop like this. ASUS Transformer Book UX303 combines the best features that we need on a laptop. This laptop got an ultrabook design but this one got a badass specifications. So what is it? Well, we got the latest Core i7 processor inside, 8GB of RAM, and it is powered by Nvidia GeForce 840M for your gaming needs. Wanna know more about it? Check it out after the break.

Design and Construction

I’m a big fan of metal body and this laptop didn’t fail to amaze me.The whole body is made up of metal which makes the laptop a little bit heavier than I expected but that metal construction also made the laptop feel more solid and durable. The curves below also feels good and the laptop isn’t slippery despite having a smooth metal finish and when holding in one hand on all sides.

At the left of the ASUS Zenbook UX303, you’ll see two USB ports and the SD Card slot while on the other side, you’ll find the charger port, DisplayPort, USB, HDMI and 3.5mm audio jack. Inside the box, you’ll get a free leather sleeve and some dongles.

Heating problems? Not really. The laptop feels very warm when gaming however, I didn’t experience overheating on this one and yes, the flow of heat is good. The ASUS Zenbook UX303 is also using a Bang and Olufsen technology on its speakers and yes, it performs pretty well and the audio quality doesn’t hurt my ears.

The keyboard sports a chiclet design and it is very comfortable to type on this device. The keys are at a right size, well-spaced, and it is very soft to press. Typing a review on this laptop feels breezy and comfortable. Actually, I’ve been using this laptop for blogging because it feels more comfortable to type on this one over my Retina Macbook Pro. The touchpad? Yeah, there’s a lot of space and it is one of the nicest touchpad that I’ve used on a Windows laptop however the gestures aren’t really that good but don’t worry because Windows 10 will provide awesome gestures to maximize the touchpad’s large space.

There’s a 2.6GHz Intel Core-i7-4510U, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD and an Nvidia GeForce 840M GPU inside which is enough for your gaming needs. However, if you want to install a lot of latest games on your laptop, 256GB might not be enough for you since most games these days can reach up to more than 40GB each (or more!) but don’t worry because the 256GB SSD is faster than most hard drives.

Battery life

Since this one is already powered by a Haswell processor, the power consumption is very efficient and at normal Wi-Fi use, I was able to get achieved 7:30 hours of use which is really great. At heavy use, you could have a battery life of 3-4 hours which is still great.

 

Display

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe ASUS Zenbook UX303 variant that we have got a 13.3-inch display with Full HD resolution and yes, the display produces great colors. The colors and the viewing angles were good but the display is very reflective especially when I’m using the laptop every morning despite setting the display at the highest brightness.

 

Gaming

Like what I’ve told you before, this laptop got the body of an ultrabook but still feats a specs that’s really good for gaming. The Nvidia GeForce 840M isn’t the best GPU for notebooks that is out in the market but it balances the need for gaming and power consumption. At light activities, the notebook is using the Intel HD graphics however, if there’s a need for more power, it’ll automatically switch to the Nvidia GeForce 840m GPU.

This one got a powerful Intel Core i7-4510U processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. When playing the latest games, you won’t be disappointed on this one. I tried a lot of games and the laptop never failed to amaze me. I’ve tried all the games that I have and all of them are PLAYABLE at Full HD resolution.

I’ve got to admit to you guys, I’m a big fan of Apple devices especially Macs but I’m still amazed with the ASUS Zenbook UX303 and sometimes, I don’t want to use my Macbook Pro because the ASUS Zenbook UX303 is really powerful and it’s very comfortable to use. The ASUS Zenbook UX303 might have all the features that you want on a notebook but of couse, this laptop comes with a price. The ASUS Zenbook UX303 starts at P60,000 for the i5 Variant and P70,000 for the i7 variant

Which printer should I buy: Inkjets vs. Lasers

Whenever you buy printers at any computer stores, some of you might be curious between Inkjet and laser printers. But sometimes, we don’t know which one is the best for us that’s why sometimes we end up buying something that isn’t really meant for our needs.  So the big question is, what’s the best printer for us? Inkjet or Laser?

 

Okay, so basically we have two major types of printers — the inkjets and the lasers. Each type has their own technology and advantages when it comes to printing needs so whenever you’ll buy a printer, you’ll have to consider and plan the usage of the printer that you’ll buy.

 

Inkjet Printers

When printing colored documents and pictures, it is best to print on an inkjet printer. Inkjet printers are recommended if you’re printing colored documents, such as photos on bond paper or at glossy paper. Another advantage of colored inkjets are its size. It comes in a more compact models which will fit in small spaces.

 

Laser Printers

Unlike Inkjet printers, laser printers are made for document printing. Even an entry-level monochrome laser printer can print pages faster and its powder in laser consumables has a longer shelf life. Some laser models are on par with Inkjet printers when it comes to speed but laser printers are preferred over inkjets because when printing documents, small texts tend to be heavier when printed on laser printers. Oh and yes, laser printers are much cheaper compared to inkjet printers.

 

What should you get?

That’s the big question. So what should you get? Well, you’re the only one who can answer that. If you’re planning on printing photos and colored documents then better choose an inkjet printer however, if you’re just into printing black-and-white documents, choose the laser printers instead.

 

Some of the monochrome laser printers available right now are Brother HL-1210W which is priced at PhP3,990 and has a print speed of up to 20ppm in A4 paper in 21ppm letter-size paper. However, if you’re aiming for an inkjet printer, you can get the Brother DCP-J100 that can also do copy and scan functions for only P4,950.
