This is your next modular phone, Project Ara

Project Ara is coming but unfortunately, not in the Philippines. This modular smartphone would arrive first in Puerto Rico and Google said that this project is already in phase 2. So what does that mean? Phase 2 means that the device could already connect to Wi-Fi and already supports 3G wireless while 4G connectivity is coming soon. Unfortunately, Google will still figure out how much these phones would cost and if consumers likes the idea of buying parts.

As you can see, those parts can be customized and when you want to upgrade your phone, you just have to buy a specific part to and replace the part that you want to upgrade. Again, Project Ara smartphones won’t be available anytime soon and this project is still in development. So if you’re craving for one, well, all you can do right now is wait.

Windows phone devices just got more affordable thanks to the official announcement of the Microsoft Lumia 435 and Lumia 532. Yes, this is the company’s first smartphone for the 400 series. Both the Microsoft Lumia 435 & Lumia 532 packs a 4-inch display but the Lumia 435 only runs a dual-core Snapdragon processor while the Lumia 532 has a quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor and it also sports a better camera. Cherry Mobile Cosmos One Plus

Earlier today Cherry Mobile has announced their newest flagship smartphone, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos One Plus. The looks is kinda similar to the Cherry Mobile Cosmos One but this one has a more powerful specifications. This smartphone packs an Octa-core MT6595 processor. 32GB of Internal storage, Dual LTE and 3GB of RAM. There’s a 14-Megapixel IMX214 Sony Camera Sensor on this device which is also used by the Nexus 6. Do you want to know more about this device? The first Tizen phone has recently been announce by Samsung and unlike the flagship smartphones of Samsung Galaxy series, this one doesn’t pack the best hardware on a smartphones instead, the Tizen-powered Samsung Z1 will pack a specifications aimed to compete on the entry level market. It packs a very fast 2.0 GHz Octa-core processor and a 3GB of RAM which will be more than enough for your games and applications. This is Cherry Mobile’s newest flagship and it is currrently their most powerful smartphone. This smartphone also packs a Dual Sim with Dual LTE and it will come with Android 4.4 Kitkat and it will be upgradeable to Android Lollipop once the update is out.

One of the most affordable hybrid you can find in the market is the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph. It sports a Quad-Core Intel atom processor, 32GB storage, 2GB RAM and it has a magnetic keyboard dock just like the Microsoft Surface. It’s one of the two Windows 8 devices that was released last year and yes, since this is a Windows 8.1 device, you could run legacy applications and popular Windows games like DOTA and Counter strike on this device. Samsung Philippines just launched the availability of their all metal Galaxy A series. Following their 1st Galaxy Alpha series last October, the new Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 features different screen sizes to cater for everyone. 

The three smartphones are aimed for more premium seekers that wants more sleekness in design and materials. But besides that, Samsung also included features that are more social media concentric.

Samsung Philippines highlighted the thinness of all the phones where the A3 was the thickest at 6.9mm, while all have the same side metal finish like the Galaxy Note 4. The bezels are also very thin where the footprint is actually smaller compared to the Galaxy S5 and Note 4. The back cover features a sand blasted metal finish where it gives a smooth finish. 


All phones also features Samsung’s Super AMOLED display for brighter screen, wider colors and deeper black contrast.  

Interestingly, the #Selfie generation is now getting more serious with an inclusion of 5 megapixel 90 degree lens for a wider photos. Plus with software improvements for beautification.

Lastly the price for the Galaxy A series comes with a metal premium indeed. Priced at Php16,990, Php19,990 and 24,990 respectively for the A3, A5 and A7. In all models mentioned, the A7 features a more balanced pricing with flagship specifications, premium body and dual sim function. 
Expect the Galaxy A series to be available in the Philippines by the half of January 2015.

Cherry Mobile has recently announce their newest smartphone for this year, the Cherry Mobile Me Vibe. Like its Cherry Mobile Me brothers, this one would have a customizable back too but compared to those smartphones, this one would have a bigger display and this one would sport an octa-core processor. Okay, so what’s up with the Cherry Mobile ME Vibe? Well, the prices hasn’t been announce yet but considering the specifications of this smartphone, this would probably be one of the most affordable Octa-core smartphone in the Philippines.

PC has been evolving ever since the mobile devices came into the market. A few years ago, there were only few tablets and there were no hybrids but today, PC comes in many forms such as hybrids, tablets and all-in-one devices and at CES, HP has unveiled the HP Stream Mini. This device might be very small and very cute but this baby is a full-fledged desktop. Yep, that’s a full Windows device and  all you need is a mouse, monitor and keyboard and you could run Windows applications and games like Warcraft III.

Aside from the ASUS Zenfone 2, they’ve also announced the ASUS Zenfone Zoom. It’s the newest camera phone from ASUS and it directly competes against the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom and the Lumia 1020 (which is freaking old!). So the ASUS Zenfone Zoom packs a 13-Megapixel f/2.0 camera with a 3x Optical Zoom, OIS, sports a laser autofocus, manual mode and a dual-color LED flash. You might not be amazed with the 3x optical zoom but you’ll be happy to know that this smartphone isn’t that thick. Yep, the smartphone’s thickest point is at 11.95mm only. However, the ASUS Zenfone Zoom doesn’t have an official specification yet and they’re targeting a $399 or PhP17,877 price tag.
