POCO X8 Pro Review

The mid-range smartphone segment continues to become more competitive, with brands pushing flagship-inspired features into more affordable devices. POCO has consistently been part of that conversation, especially among users who value performance above all else.

The latest addition to its lineup, the POCO X8 Pro, aims to strengthen that reputation. It packs a capable chipset, a vibrant AMOLED display, a large battery, and a design that feels more premium than its price tag suggests.

Our team used the POCO X8 Pro as a daily driver—from handling work-related tasks and content consumption to gaming sessions and casual photography. Here’s our experience with the device.

POCO X8 Pro Review: Design

The POCO X8 Pro doesn’t try too hard to stand out, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Our review unit came in the Black colorway, featuring a clean and understated finish that gives it a more mature look. The minimalist approach works well, especially for users who prefer something less flashy.

Although the back panel is made from plastic, the phone doesn’t feel cheap in the hand. The aluminum frame adds rigidity and contributes to a more premium overall feel. Weight distribution is also balanced, making the device comfortable enough to hold during extended use, whether for gaming or binge-watching sessions.

One feature we genuinely appreciated is the inclusion of IP68 and IP69K ratings. It’s a level of protection that’s still uncommon within this price segment. While we wouldn’t recommend intentionally exposing the device to water, the added peace of mind against accidental splashes or unexpected rain is certainly welcome.

Overall, the POCO X8 Pro offers a practical design that focuses on durability and comfort without sacrificing aesthetics.

POCO X8 Pro Review: Display

The display is easily one of the strongest aspects of the POCO X8 Pro.

It sports a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with support for HDR10+, HDR Vivid, Dolby Vision, and a 120Hz refresh rate. On paper, the specifications are impressive, but what matters more is how the display performs in actual use.

During our review, the panel consistently delivered a pleasant viewing experience. Colors appeared rich without being overly saturated, while text and images remained crisp and detailed. The slim bezels also helped create a more immersive feel, particularly when streaming videos or playing games.

The adaptive 120Hz refresh rate made scrolling through social media feeds and navigating the interface feel fluid and responsive. We also found outdoor visibility to be reliable, even under bright daylight conditions, thanks to its impressive peak brightness.

Whether you’re watching your favorite series, editing content, or simply browsing the web, the display on the POCO X8 Pro rarely disappoints.

POCO X8 Pro Review: Camera

The POCO X8 Pro features a straightforward camera setup composed of a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 20MP front-facing camera.

In our experience, the camera system performs adequately for everyday scenarios. Under favorable lighting conditions, the primary camera captures photos with good levels of detail and balanced colors. Dynamic range is decent enough for sharing images directly to social media without extensive editing.

The ultra-wide camera serves its purpose for landscapes and group shots, although image quality understandably takes a step down compared to the main sensor. Meanwhile, the front camera produces pleasing selfies suitable for video calls and casual uploads.

However, this isn’t a smartphone that positions itself as a photography-focused device. Low-light performance can be inconsistent, and users who prioritize advanced camera capabilities may find stronger alternatives elsewhere.

For documenting daily moments and occasional content creation, though, the cameras remain perfectly serviceable.

POCO X8 Pro Review: Software and Performance

Performance has always been one of POCO’s biggest strengths, and the X8 Pro continues that tradition.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra processor, the device handled our daily activities with little effort. Switching between multiple applications, managing emails, editing photos, and navigating social media platforms all felt smooth throughout our testing period.

Gaming performance was equally impressive for a mid-range smartphone. We spent time playing demanding titles, and the experience remained enjoyable with stable frame rates for most of our sessions.

There were occasional frame drops during resource downloads and particularly intense moments, but these instances were brief and didn’t significantly impact gameplay. Thermal management was also respectable, as the device remained relatively comfortable to hold during extended gaming sessions.

Combined with its fast storage and ample memory configurations, the POCO X8 Pro proves itself to be a dependable option for users who place performance high on their list of priorities.

POCO X8 Pro Review: Battery

Battery life is another area where the POCO X8 Pro leaves a positive impression.

The device houses a large 6500mAh battery, which provided enough endurance to comfortably get us through a full day of use. On lighter days involving messaging, video streaming, web browsing, and productivity tasks, stretching battery life into the following day was entirely possible.

Heavy gaming naturally consumed more power, particularly when paired with higher graphics settings and extended play sessions. Even then, battery performance remained respectable compared to other devices within the same category.

The inclusion of 100W fast charging also helps minimize downtime. When battery levels eventually run low, topping up the device doesn’t require hours of waiting.

For users constantly on the move, the combination of long battery life and rapid charging is undoubtedly one of the phone’s standout qualities.

Verdict

After spending time with the POCO X8 Pro, it’s clear that the device understands its target audience.

Rather than trying to excel in every category, it focuses on delivering where many users need it most: performance, display quality, battery life, and overall reliability. The durable design and premium touches further enhance its appeal, especially considering its mid-range positioning.

So, if you’re searching for a smartphone that can keep up with demanding workloads, lengthy gaming sessions, and all-day usage without stretching into flagship territory, the POCO X8 Pro presents itself as a compelling option worth considering.
