vivo Y16 Quick Review

The vivo Y16 is the newest affordable smartphone from the company but despite being in the affordable territory, the smartphone comes with some features that you might like including the large battery of smartphone and also its elegant design.

Design

The vivo Y16 comes with a design that is getting popular in most smartphones these days. At the back, it comes with a two circular camera module which gives the smartphone a cleaner and better look.

Combined with that is the shimmering back cover of the smartphone that looks pretty in the eyes, especially with the Gold color that we have right now in our review unit.  The light body makes the smartphone portable and easy to use despite the flat frame.

There’s the flat back along with the flat frame on the smartphone, this design combination makes the smartphone look a little bit more premium. On the right side, the smartphone packs a power button along with the volume rocker. Below is the USB-C port along with the headphone jack.

For the battery of the smartphone, the vivo Y16 comes with a 5000mAh battery and unfortunately, there’s 10W of charging only. In our PC Mark Work 2.0 test, we got a score of 15 hours and 22 minutes which is long enough to be use for a day or even two.

Display

The smartphone packs a 6.51-inch HD+ IPS display and of course, there’s the notch at the top. The display also packs noticeable bezels on the side and chin but it wasn’t really that bad even watching videos on the smartphone.

When using the display outside, the vivo Y16’s display is bright enough and as for the resolution of the smartphone, it was fine enough for me, especially for its budget. Definitely not the best one in its range but not the worst one either.

Software and performance

The vivo Y16 comes with FunTouch OS 12 based on Android 12. The experience was fine despite using a dated processor on the smartphone. But of course, it wasn’t the fastest that we have seen.

For the hardware inside the vivo Y16, the smartphone comes with a MediaTek Helio P35 processor inside along with 4GB of RAM and also 128GB of internal storage. The good thing about the vivo Y16 is that it comes with 1GB extended RAM to give you a total of 5GB of RAM for apps and games.

When it comes to performance, it’s just what we can expect from a smartphone in its price range. Since this one comes with a dated processor, most of the light apps would run just fine along with some casual games but if you’re planning on playing heavy games then that would be a problem. We were able to play games like Mobile Legends on the smartphone just fine along with PUBG Mobile but it was set at the lowest settings possible.

Camera

For the camera of the smartphone, the vivo Y16 comes with a dual-lens rear camera with a 13MP main camera along with a 2MP depth sensor. Basically, the smartphone does have one usable camera. Again, this smartphone is on the affordable side so you have to set your expectations on the smartphone.

The shots that we took using the smartphone does capture most of the details that we need but the dynamic range of the smartphone needs a lot of improvement on the smartphone.

Verdict

The vivo Y16 might not have the best hardware inside but it definitely has competitive pricing and features in its price range. If you’re looking for an affordable smartphone then you might want to consider this one, the vivo Y16.
