Apple has officially expanded its hearing health tools to Canada, launching its clinically validated Hearing Test feature nationwide for AirPods Pro users. The feature arrives alongside an over-the-counter Hearing Aid capability tailored for Canadians experiencing mild to moderate hearing loss.
According to Statistics Canada, nearly one in five Canadians reports hearing difficulties. By bringing clinical-grade diagnostics to everyday consumer hardware, Apple aims to make proactive hearing care far more accessible and less intimidating across the country.
AirPods Pro Hearing Test Canada Availability and Setup
The scientifically validated Hearing Test feature is available across all Canadian provinces and territories starting today. Compatible with AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 paired with an iPhone or iPad, the test can be completed at home in roughly five minutes.
Built upon pure-tone audiometry, the test plays a series of interactive tones across varied frequencies. Users simply tap their device screen whenever they hear a chime, creating a comprehensive assessment of each ear in real time.

Clinical-Grade Hearing Aid Rollout Across Canadian Provinces
Alongside the diagnostic test, Apple is rolling out its first-of-its-kind software-based Hearing Aid feature. However, due to regional over-the-counter medical device regulations, the Hearing Aid tool is currently limited to specific Canadian provinces.
At launch, residents in Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan can activate the Hearing Aid capability. Apple confirmed it is actively collaborating with health regulators in remaining provinces, including Ontario and Quebec, to broaden access as local legislation permits.
Once enabled, the feature applies personalized acoustic adjustments automatically to real-world conversations, phone calls, music, and streaming media. The custom profile boosts frequencies seamlessly without requiring manual equalizer adjustments.

Privacy, Health App Audiograms, and Hearing Protection
Following the test, users receive a clear summary displaying decibel hearing levels for each ear alongside a standardized audiogram. These records remain encrypted and stored privately within the Health app, where users can export them as a PDF to consult with an audiologist or doctor.
Both features complement Apple’s built-in Hearing Protection, which remains active by default across loud venues. A multiband high dynamic range algorithm preserves natural acoustics at live concerts while protecting users from hazardous sound exposure.
How Canadians Can Get Started
Canadian users can access the new features by updating their iPhone or iPad to the latest software release and ensuring their AirPods Pro firmware is up to date. The test can then be initiated directly through the Health app or the AirPods settings menu.
