Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design debuts with inward wing-fold display, Kirin 9050 Pro, and hardware privacy screen

HUAWEI has officially unveiled its next-generation tri-fold flagship smartphone in China, the Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design.

Wing-Fold Inward Architecture and Second-Generation Tiangong Hinge

The HUAWEI Mate XT 2 introduces what Huawei terms the Wing-Fold tri-fold mechanism.

Both outer wings now fold inward over the primary 10.2-inch foldable display, shielding the flexible panel completely from outside friction when closed.

HUAWEI has also engineered the second-generation Tiangong hinge system featuring a gearless linkage structure with dual-rail synchronization.

The redesigned spindle utilizes a five-arc arm framework that improves overall hinge impact resistance by 90 percent while minimizing display crease depth.

When closed, the phone measures 12.3mm in thickness and operates like a standard single-screen smartphone through a 6.5-inch exterior cover display.

Fully unfolded into tablet mode, the chassis thins down to just 3.5mm at its slimmest edge while weighing approximately 299 grams.

Dual LTPO OLED Displays and Xuanwu Kunlun Glass Durability

The external cover screen features a 6.5-inch LTPO OLED panel with a sharp 2442 x 1140 resolution, 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.

It is protected by next-generation Xuanwu Kunlun Glass, delivering up to thirty times greater drop resistance alongside an ultra-low reflectance surface coating.

Unfolding the handset reveals an expansive 10.2-inch 3K LTPO OLED flexible main display with a resolution of 2232 x 3184 pixels.

The internal panel features a multi-layered composite stack incorporating ultra-thin glass and an aerospace-grade steel buffer layer that boosts impact resistance by 200 percent.

The device also achieves official IP58 and IP59 certifications, granting robust resistance against dust ingress and high-pressure water jets.

Lingdun Dual-Pixel Hardware Privacy Screen Technology

A major technological highlight introduced on premium configurations is HUAWEI’s Lingdun hardware privacy screen.

Unlike traditional software filters or external stick-on privacy sheets that reduce brightness and sharpness, Lingdun utilizes a native dual-pixel screen matrix.

When privacy mode is toggled via the physical AI Smart Key or system shortcuts, the screen instantly transitions from wide-angle subpixels to narrow-angle directional subpixels.

This restricts side-angle visibility so onlookers cannot see sensitive files, while preserving full resolution and color fidelity for the user viewing straight ahead.

Users can also configure automated triggers, allowing privacy mode to activate dynamically inside transit hubs, financial apps, or during private document reviews.

Kirin 9050 Pro Silicon, HarmonyOS 7, and Satellite Connectivity

Powering the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 is HUAWEI’s new in-house Kirin 9050 Pro processor.

The flagship silicon features advanced 3D LogicFolding architecture, yielding a 42 percent overall performance uplift alongside hardware-accelerated real-time ray tracing on its Ma Liang GPU.

Its integrated Da Vinci NPU facilitates local execution of multimodal artificial intelligence models packing up to thirty billion parameters.

Thermal efficiency is managed by an innovative three-frame distributed heat architecture paired with a large vapor chamber and high-conductivity graphene layers.

The smartphone runs HarmonyOS 7 out of the box, introducing native three-window parallel app multitasking, independent window volume sliders, and PC-level financial terminals.

For off-grid peace of mind, the device incorporates two-way Beidou satellite messaging as well as Tiantong satellite voice calling capabilities.

Despite its slender folding profile, the Mate XT 2 houses a high-density 5,600mAh silicon-carbon battery.

It supports 66W wired Huawei SuperCharge, capable of rapidly replenishing battery levels via USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1.

Wireless charging reaches up to 50W with compatible Huawei SuperCharge wireless docks, supplemented by wireless reverse charging for accessories.

The HUAWEI Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design is available in China in three distinct finishes: Xuan Black, Hao White, and Jin Purple featuring gold-woven cloud brocade patterns.

The base 16GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration starts at 19,999 yuan (approximately $2,980 or Php 168,000).

The 16GB RAM and 512GB edition is priced at 21,999 yuan (approximately $3,278 or Php 175,000), while the 16GB RAM and 1TB tier retails for 23,999 yuan (approximately $3,576 or Php 189,000).

The specialized Lingdun Privacy Screen edition with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage carries a price tag of 24,999 yuan (approximately $3,725 or Php 197,000).

A top-of-the-line 16GB RAM and 2TB bundle with the Huawei M-Pen 3 Mini stylus is also available for 26,999 yuan (approximately $4,025 or Php 213,000).

Official deliveries in China commence on September 12, 2026, with global release schedules yet to be announced.
