Behind every animated spectacle is some serious computing power working behind the scenes. For DreamWorks Animation’s newest original feature, Forgotten Island, a big part of that power comes from Lenovo.
Lenovo Workstations and Computing Power Behind the Scenes
Lenovo’s workstations, high-performance computing infrastructure, data center technology, and services supported DreamWorks’ artistic and technical teams throughout production. The setup handled the large-scale computing requirements involved in creating the film’s characters and environments.
The partnership is a long-standing one, and it grew even bigger in 2025. That year, DreamWorks named Lenovo its preferred provider for compute services, workstations, and solutions across the studio.
“Every animated film begins with artists and storytellers, but bringing their ideas to the screen also requires a technology foundation capable of keeping pace with their imagination,” said Kate Swanborg, SVP for Technology Communications and Strategic Alliances at DreamWorks Animation.
A Filipino Story on the Global Stage
Forgotten Island follows lifelong best friends Jo and Raissa, voiced by Grammy and Academy Award winner H.E.R. and Filipino actress Liza Soberano. The two are transported to Nakali, a fantastical island filled with magical creatures rooted in stories from their Filipino families.
The film was written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, and produced by Mark Swift. That’s the same filmmaking team behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
Joining the voice cast are Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Ronny Chieng, and Lea Salonga. It’s a stellar lineup that puts Filipino and Filipino-American talent front and center.
“Forgotten Island is particularly meaningful for us in the Philippines because it shows how a story deeply inspired by Filipino culture can connect with audiences on a global scale,” said Michael Ngan, President and General Manager of Lenovo Philippines.
