Nokia E7 Philippine launch and Hands-on

Finally, the exam week a.k.a. hell week was over. Anway, Me and my friend Adrian was invited at Nokia E7 launch last March 24 at Shangri-la, Makati. Unfortunately on that day, I forgot my camera and all I got is my cellphone. But I still got a chance to play with the Nokia E7. Anyway if you don’t know what the Nokia E7 is made of just check this out

Initial Impression
When I saw the Nokia E7, the first thing came to my mind was the Nokia E7 borrowed the metallic body of Nokia N8 but this one has a larger screen and it features a QWERTY keyboard. The slider mechanism was similar to Nokia N97 where the screen was slightly angled which is great for viewing pictures and videos.

Display
Nokia E7 features a 4″ AMOLED Screen with clearblack display. The display of Nokia E7 is larger than iPhone 4 but Nokia E7 has smaller screen resolution and the Retina display of iPhone 4 is still better. The Clearblack display amazed me, when you’re viewing a picture or even a video with black edges on it, you can barely see the edges of the screen.
The Design
When you hold the Nokia E7, you can feel how solid the metallic design is. Nokia E7 features a great slider mechanism but I doubt that it can last long for those careless people. The 4 row QWERTY Keyboard was also great. I can type fast and with ease which is great for mobile blogging, creating Word documents and typing long text and email messages. You can also use the virtual keyboard when you want to.
Software
Nokia E7 is juiced up with the latest Symbian^3 OS. You can feel that a lot has changed from its predecessor. Symbian^3 is more responsive and has a better UI and there are better apps on the Symbian^3. If you want apps, just check out Ovi Store. Popular games like Angry Birds are available on the OVI Store. There are a lot of apps in the Ovi store but it doesn’t have a match on the Android Market and the Apple Appstore
When it comes to security, F-secure Anti-Theft will do the thing for you. It allows you to trace your phone whenever you lost it and offers the security you’ll need. Great for people who has documents that you’ll really need to hide.
IMO, Ovi Maps is better than Google maps when it comes to navigation. It has directions which Google maps doesn’t have in Manila. Too bad Ovi maps, lacks some roads in the province. But anyway, the things is that the navigation is free.

Nokia E7 is a great office companion, you can create or edit your Word, Excel and Presentations. After editing those Presentations, connect your device to the external display using the HDMI and you’re good to go.

The Nokia E7
Connectivity
Nokia E7 has 3.5mm jack which is common nowadays. It has the same port for the USB-on-the-go, PC and charger. It has a separate port for the HDMI. It has Wi-fi and Bluetooth too. Too bad it doesn’t have a MicroSD card slot. 16 GB is too small for people like me. It has USB-on-the-go so no problemo USB sticks, you can read your documents, copy files and watch your videos on your USB Sticks.
Camera
The 8 megapixel full focus camera isn’t great at all. You can’t take a great shot when the object is near. Yeah, you can’t take Macro shots. The HD video recording wasn’t bad at all. It runs at 25 fps which is already great.
Conclusion
The Nokia E7 is a great office companion. It’s also a multimedia powerhouse except for the camera. It has Ovi store where you can download the latest games, it can run HD Videos, it has HDMI connectivity and a lotta more. It can even replace your desktop/laptop sometimes. The only downside of this thing is the Full focus camera. Symbian^3 is a great upgrade from Symbian^1 IMO but Android and iOS can beat this thing up. More Pictures & Videos will posted soon. I hope I can get a review unit soon. 🙂
