The Government of Canada has officially announced a $10 million investment in global automotive supplier Hanon Systems to strengthen the nation’s electric vehicle manufacturing sector.

The funding supports the construction of a $198.75 million facility in Vaughan, Ontario, establishing Canada’s first manufacturing plant for vapour-injected electric compressors.

300 New Jobs and 1.5 Million Annual E-Compressor Production Capacity

The new Vaughan plant and product development centre will create 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs in Ontario.

By 2034, the state-of-the-art facility is projected to reach an annual production capacity of up to 1.5 million vapour-injected e-compressors for electric and hybrid vehicles. Vapour-injected electric compressors are critical thermal management components that maintain optimal battery performance and cabin climate in sub-zero temperatures.

$155 Million Direct Investment Secures Canada’s EV Supply Chain Leadership

Provided through the federal Strategic Response Fund, Canada’s $10 million contribution accompanies a $155 million direct investment commitment from Hanon Systems. The project builds upon Hanon Systems’ existing Canadian footprint in Belleville and Concord, bringing total domestic workforce numbers to over 1,200 employees.
