Microsoft has unveiled today their newest Surface devices that can take on the Macbook Air M4 and these are the 12″ Surface Pro and the new Surface Laptop with both of them running on Snapdragon X Plus processors from Qualcomm. These devices aim to deliver premium experiences at more accessible price points, starting at CA$1,199 and CA$1,349, respectively.
Surface Pro 12″: The thinnest and lightest Copilot+ PC
The new Surface Pro 12″ is Microsoft’s most portable 2-in-1 device to date, weighing just at 686g and measuring 7.8mm thick. It features a 12-inch LCD with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 2196 x 1464 resolution, and up to a 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor (8-core) with an integrated 45 TOPS NPU, it supports AI features like Recall and Windows Studio Effects. The device offers up to 16 hours of video playback and includes two USB-C ports, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. The redesigned keyboard lies flat for comfortable typing, and the Surface Slim Pen attaches magnetically to the back for easy storage and charging.1
Surface Laptop 13″: Sleek design meets powerful performance
The Surface Laptop 13″ features an anodized aluminum chassis and a 13-inch Full HD touchscreen display with thin bezels. It is powered by the same Snapdragon X Plus processor (8-core processor) and 45 TOPS NPU as the Surface Pro. This enablesAI-enhanced experiences. The laptop boasts up to 23 hours of video playback and includes two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, and a headphone jack. Available in Ocean, Violet, and Platinum colors, it also features a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button for secure authentication.
AI-powered Copilot+ experience
Both devices are part of Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC initiative, designed to leverage AI for enhanced productivity. This includes features like Recall, Click to Do, and AI-powered Windows Search run locally thanks to the integrated NPU. But what I’m most excited about is the agents in settings which will be available in the future that lets you describe what you need in your own words and get recommendations to fix it.
