Realme XT Hands-On and First Impressions

0

The Realme XT with 64MP camera is here!

During the Realme 5 series launch in the Philippines, the company has revealed that the 64MP smartphone is coming soon and yes, we now have here the Realme XT. It’s the company’s first foray into the 64MP segment and just like the Realme 5 series, this smartphone will pack a quad-camera setup. So what do we think about the smartphone? Check it out in our hands-on and first impressions below.

The smartphone does pack a familiar look but it definitely have a different feel. The smartphone is close to the Realme 5 Pro but once you hold the smartphone, you’ll definitely feel that it’s a different one thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that is protecting the smartphone and yes, the back of the smartphone is now glass that’s why the smartphone feels really premium. Not only that, we also got here a metal sides that’s why it feels more solid.

One of the upgrades on the Realme XT is that we got here is an in-display fingerprint scanner and it’s actually a nice upgrade for me however I still prefer using the face unlock of the smartphone which is pretty fast along with the in-display fingerprint scanner

There’s the 6.4-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display and I can easily see that the smartphone does have a better display than the Realme 5 Pro as this one is more vivid and it has more striking colors and yes, the display is a big upgrade from the display of most mid-range smartphones that aren’t using Super AMOLED display. The smartphone still packs a waterdrop display notch at the top so yeah, there’s no pop-up camera on the smartphone.

The smartphone still runs on ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie and it does work well and it comes with a lot of applications such as ORoamong, App market and many more. Inside the smartphone is a Snapdragon 712 processor along with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which is similar to the Realme 5 Pro and yes, this one works just fine.

Then there’s the quad-camera. The Realme XT’s quad-camera is not just good, it’s amazing. The 64MP camera of the Realme XT is really great as we can not just capture colorful and vivid shots but the shots that we took are sharp and really detailed. Check out some of the shots that I took using the smartphone:

The Realme XT is not just a beautiful smartphone, it also has a very powerful camera. The Snapdragon 712 processor inside it is already decent enough to run most games and applications so you won’t have a problem. Right now, we don’t have a price for the smartphone but we’re definitely excited for this one.

Leaks regarding the CPU choice and the 90Hz AMOLED screen hit the jackpot, but Google still had some cards in their sleeves.

Fancy Features

Google Pixel 4 Pixel 4 XL 90Hz Display PH

The most sought off feature in gaming is a high refresh-rate display and has been exclusive to gaming-centric smartphones such as the ROG Phone, Razer Phone, and Xiaomi Blackshark – All of which now has a II successor. OnePlus is the first brand to release a high refresh-rate display on a non-gamer smartphone, the OnePlus 7 Pro. Google is second to the market with the Pixel 4 Series. What’s unique about the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL’s high refresh-rate display is its ability to go down to 60Hz(from 90Hz) on an app that wouldn’t benefit from the increased refresh rate, thus the “Smooth” Display naming scheme.

The bathtub shaped notch on the previous Google Pixel 3 series is arguably one of the worst notch implementations of ever released. Instead of implementing a punch hole dewdrop notch and a notch-less design(via motorized selfie camera), Google went a step back in time with a top bezel on its 2019 flagship smartphone. A Radar sensor hides inside the top bezel of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, which enables the smartphone to support motion gestures. As of writing, motion sense only supports back/next in songs, snoozing alarms, smart wake, and saying hi to your live pokémon wallpaper.

There’s a new Recorder app that’s exclusive to the Pixel 4 series. This app allows recording with real-time transcribe function saved on Google Keep. It allows searching for recordings using specific sentences or phrases found on the audio file.

The Google Pixel series is known for taking the best photos despite only having a single lens as it had powerful post-processing that beats other smartphones. The Pixel 4 series is the first from Google to sport a dual rear-camera setup. There’s also improved post-processing thanks to a dedicated neural core. Learning-based white balancing, Live HDR+, and dual exposures use the neural core and both the 16MP main shooter and 12MP telephoto lens to capture as many details as possible. Thanks to the upgrades in both hardware and software, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL support astrophotography to capture beautiful images that highlight the stars.

Google Pixel 4 & Pixel 4 XL Pricing and Availability

Variants of the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 series only differ in storage. The 64GB Pixel 4 variant is priced at $799(Php 41,222) while the 128GB variant costs $899. The base 64GB model of the Pixel 4 XL retails at $899(Php 46,381.86) and the maxed out 128GB storage can be purchased for $999(Php 51,541). The Pixel 4 series is available in Black or White with a limited edition Not so orange available for pre-order here.

Huawei Nova 5T vs. Samsung Galaxy A50s Camera Comparison

0

The Huawei Nova 5T and the Samsung Galaxy A50s are truly impressive smartphones for its price and both of the smartphones will be one of the hottest products this holiday season. The Samsung Galaxy A50s features and the Huawei Nova 5T are in the same price range and today, we’re gonna do a camera comparison of these two smartphones but first, let’s talk about the cameras of these two smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy A50s is an incremental upgrade from the Samsung Galaxy A50 and the former now features a better 48MP main camera at the back with an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera and also a 5MP depth sensor. While the Huawei Nova 5T features a quad camera setup which is quite unique.

There might be a lot of quad-camera setup in the market right now but the Huawei Nova 5T does features a different implementation. They have a 48MP main camera, a 16MP super wide-angle camera, 2MP depth assist camera or depth sensor and then there’s the unique 2MP macro camera.

To give you an idea about the multi-camera setup of these smartphones, the main camera is basically the most powerful of all the cameras in the smartphones while the super wide-angle cameras let you capture wider and better shots on the smartphone while the depth assist or the depth sensor helps in detecting the subjects to give you a better portrait or bokeh shots and lastly, the macro camera of the Huawei Nova 5T lets you capture photos at a closer range. How close? You can take close-up photos from 4 cm away. Yep, that close.

Time to do a comparison!

Auto mode

Now here’s a good comparison for the two 48MP camera sensors of these smartphones. Again, both smartphones pack a 48MP rear main camera so how does it perform? Well, check out the photo below.

As you can see, we’re in a well-lit environment and both shots displayed really nice details and quality but the Samsung Galaxy A50s displayed a slightly overexposed shot and the Huawei Nova 5T features a sharper photo with more natural colors with better depth of field. So it’s clear that the Huawei Nova 5T wins in this round.

Winner: Huawei Nova 5T

Wide shots

The Huawei Nova 5T features a 16MP super wide-angle camera while the Samsung Galaxy A50s features an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. Both can capture really wider shots and it’s perfect for capturing landscape photos like this one.

Both performed well in this shot and since the sun is up, both shots displayed warmer colors and details were quite fine, however, the Samsung Galaxy A50s offered more contrast in the shots with better color saturations. With the Huawei Nova 5T, you can get more pixels since we’re using a 13MP super wide-angle camera here and the details were just fine.

Winner: Samsung Galaxy A50s

Night Mode

Huawei smartphones are known to have amazing night mode shots ranging from their Y series smartphones up to their flagship P series and mate series and with the Huawei Nova 5T, the smartphone didn’t fail to impress us with their night mode.

The Huawei Nova 5T’s night mode is superior compared to the Samsung Galaxy A50s as the Nova smartphone features a better AI Super Night mode that combines the best software and hardware of the smartphone to give you a better light sensing, de-noising, and better long exposures. As you can see in the photo, the Huawei Nova 5T gives better and brighter photos with more details and less noise.

Winner: Huawei Nova 5T

Macro

The Huawei Nova 5T got a big advantage on this one since the smartphone features a dedicated lens for macro. Again, this lens gives you a better shot when you’re taking close-up shots up to 4 cm.

In the photo, the threads can be clearly seen on the Huawei Nova 5T with less blurring and bokeh so it can give you a better shot even at close-up. The problem with smartphones without a macro lens is that smartphones tend to not focus on the subject when shooting at a close range however with the Huawei Nova 5T, it was possible to shoot a close-up shot like this.

Winner: Huawei Nova 5T

Selfie

Both the Samsung Galaxy A50s and the Huawei Nova 5T features a 32MP selfie sensor and both of them feature a portrait mode feature with the Samsung Galaxy A50s calling it live focus. Check out the shot below:

In our selfie test, both were sharper than I expected however, the Huawei Nova 5T delivers more natural colors with better sharpness and better saturation with the right exposure. With regards to design, the Huawei Nova 5T features a punch-hole selfie camera on the front which features a minimalistic look while the Samsung Galaxy A50s features an Infinity-U notch at the top for its selfie camera.

Winner: Huawei Nova 5T

Verdict

The Huawei Nova 5T and the Samsung Galaxy A50s are both fantastic smartphones but in our camera comparison, the Huawei Nova 5T’s 5 AI camera remains superior. I was not surprised though since we’re getting a more powerful Kirin 980 SoC inside which is also used by the Huawei P30 Pro, the post-processing and the software side on this one is definitely on a flagship level. The flexibility of the quad-camera setup at the back of the smartphone also helps in capturing better photos as we can get better depth sensing, macro shots, and more detailed shots with its 48MP rear camera.

The Huawei Nova 5T and Samsung Galaxy A50s are now available for Php18,990.
