Here’s Why You Still Need the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally

You might already own a PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, or even a powerful gaming laptop. You might already feel that you have everything you need for gaming, but is there still a reason to get the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally? The answer is simple. Yes. You do need an ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and here is why this handheld gaming PC makes sense in a modern gaming setup.

Handheld portability with full PC gaming

Gaming laptops are portable in theory, but they still require a desk, power adapter, and proper setup to be comfortable for extended gaming sessions. They work well when you are traveling and staying in hotels or visiting someone’s home, but they are not truly handheld portable devices. Consoles like the PlayStation 5 are tied to a fixed location, while the Nintendo Switch 2 is limited to its own game ecosystem. The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally changes this experience by delivering true handheld PC gaming that allows players to run full Windows games wherever they go including your Steam library and Epic Games library

A companion device instead of a replacement

The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally is not meant to replace your existing gaming hardware. Instead, it complements it. A gaming laptop can remain your primary performance machine at home, the PS5 can continue to serve as your main console for exclusive titles, and the Nintendo Switch can still deliver its unique hybrid experience for Nintendo games. The ROG Xbox Ally fills the gap between these devices by allowing you to continue gaming sessions away from your main setup. With features like Steam Cloud and Xbox Play Anywhere, your progress syncs seamlessly across devices so you can pick up where you left off anytime.

Full PC gaming ecosystem in a handheld device

One of the biggest advantages of the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally is its ability to run a full Windows environment. This gives gamers access to major platforms such as Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Epic Games Store, and other PC launchers. It also allows deeper customization, performance tuning, and mod support for compatible titles. This also enables support for games with anti-cheat systems, making it a more complete portable gaming solution.

Powerful performance in a compact form factor

The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally showcases how far handheld gaming PCs have evolved. Powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2a processor, it is capable of running many modern AAA titles with optimized settings. This level of performance makes the device feel more like a compact gaming PC rather than a traditional handheld console, offering a balance between portability and power.

A fresh way to experience your PC game library

Many PC gamers have large backlogs that remain unfinished due to the effort required to sit at a full desktop or laptop setup. Playing these titles on a handheld gaming PC like the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally makes them feel more accessible and engaging. It introduces a new way to experience your existing game library, encouraging more consistent gaming even during busy schedules.

MacBook Air M5 Quick Review Video

The MacBook Air M5 has recently been launched and it’s one of the most exciting Macs that you can get right now. Why? Because it combines both the power of the M-series chip and it also brings the portability of a thin and light laptop. In this generation, M5 brings in more AI power for local LLM tasks and it also brings in more power for gaming thanks to its more powerful cores. But what do I think about the laptop? Well, you can check it out in our quick review video below.

As seen in the video, despite being a thin and light laptop, it was still able to run games such as Resident Evil 3 and even a demanding one like Cyberpunk 2077. Other than that, the laptop still comes with the same design from a few years ago. It still has a MagSafe port, 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports for display and also for transferring data.

However, it still comes with a 60Hz refresh and it comes in 13″ and 15″. There’s still a limited ports but the MacBook Air is just perfect for most people as it comes with power, long battery life and a decent specifications.

ASUS ROG intros new Strix OLED gaming monitors with up to 280Hz refresh rate

0

ASUS has expanded its gaming monitor lineup with the launch of three new models under its Republic of Gamers (ROG) portfolio, introducing the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen2, ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDMS, and ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMES.

Announced on March 12 in Manila, the new 27-inch QHD gaming monitors are designed to deliver high-end OLED performance while making premium display technology more accessible to a broader audience of gamers.

According to ASUS, the new models combine fast refresh rates, ultra-low response times, and advanced OLED protection technologies to offer immersive visuals and responsive gameplay for both casual and competitive players.

27-inch QHD OLED displays designed for competitive gaming

The three new monitors feature 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution across 27-inch panels and are designed to deliver the deep contrast and vibrant colors commonly associated with OLED displays.

The ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen2 uses a TrueBlack Glossy WOLED panel, while both the ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDMS and ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMES feature QD-OLED panels with a semi-glossy finish designed to balance color vibrancy and glare reduction.

To enhance motion clarity during fast-paced gameplay, ASUS equipped the monitors with 0.03ms gray-to-gray response times, helping reduce motion blur and ghosting in competitive titles.

Refresh rates vary between models. The XG27ACDMS offers the highest refresh rate at 280Hz, while the XG27AQDMG Gen2 and XG27AQDMES support 240Hz refresh rates.

These specifications are designed to provide smoother visuals and faster response times, particularly in esports and high-frame-rate gaming environments.

ASUS ROG Strix Gaming Monitors

OLED Care Pro helps reduce burn-in risks

To improve long-term reliability, the monitors include ASUS’ OLED Care Pro protection suite. One of the key features is a Neo Proximity Sensor, which automatically dims the display when the user steps away from the screen. This helps reduce the risk of OLED burn-in during extended idle periods.

Users can also customize detection distance and other OLED protection settings through the ASUS DisplayWidget Center, allowing adjustments to be made directly through Windows instead of navigating traditional on-screen display menus.

ASUS said each monitor comes with a three-year warranty, providing additional assurance for users adopting OLED displays for gaming.

Enhanced motion clarity and visual comfort

Beyond color accuracy and contrast, ASUS also introduced several technologies designed to improve gameplay visibility and comfort.

These include Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) technology to reduce ghosting effects and ROG OLED Anti-Flicker technology that stabilizes visuals during fluctuating frame rates.

The monitors also include aspect ratio control, allowing players to switch to smaller display sizes such as the 24.5-inch esports standard, which some competitive gamers prefer for familiarity and focus. In addition, each display undergoes factory pre-calibration to ensure accurate color reproduction, supported by a 99% DCI-P3 color gamut and 10-bit color depth.

AI-powered features and customizable controls

ASUS has also added several AI-assisted gaming tools to the monitors. One feature, Dynamic Shadow Boost, enhances visibility in darker areas of a scene without overexposing brighter regions. Meanwhile, an AI-driven Dynamic Crosshair adjusts color automatically to remain visible against different backgrounds.

Gamers can manage these settings through ASUS DisplayWidget Center, which enables quick customization of display profiles, brightness, and other settings.

The monitors also support firmware updates, allowing ASUS to introduce performance improvements and additional features over time.

Key specifications of the new ROG Strix OLED monitors

The ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen2 features a TrueBlack Glossy WOLED panel with 1300 nits peak brightness, 240Hz refresh rate, and 0.03ms response time, delivering deep blacks and high contrast visuals. Connectivity options include DisplayPort 1.4, dual HDMI 2.1 ports, and a USB hub.

Meanwhile, the ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDMS uses a QD-OLED panel and supports an ultra-fast 280Hz refresh rate, along with 1000 nits peak brightness and connectivity options that include DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, and USB-C with 15W power delivery.

The ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMES also features a QD-OLED panel, with a 240Hz refresh rate and 400 nits peak brightness, offering a more accessible entry point into OLED gaming displays while maintaining high color accuracy and response times.

All three monitors feature ergonomic stands that support tilt, swivel, and height adjustments, allowing users to customize viewing positions while saving desk space.

Price and availability in the Philippines

The ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDMS and ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMES are now available in the Philippines.

The XG27ACDMS is priced at Php45,000, while the XG27AQDMES has a suggested retail price of Php39,000.

ASUS said the new Strix OLED lineup aims to deliver premium OLED gaming experiences at more accessible price points, expanding the reach of advanced display technologies to a wider community of gamers.
