Nokia Lumia Spotted

Last night, I was walking around at Greenbelt 1 and then I noticed something strange in the display. There was two Nokia Lumia phones that hasn’t been released yet in the Philippines. Yep, those are the Nokia’s phablets — the Nokia Lumia 1320 and the Nokia Lumia 1520. Those phones are already available outside the country but it isn’t launch yet in the Philippines. Unfortunately, Automatic Centre Greenbelt 1 doesn’t have the prices of those phones yet. Maybe they’re just for display but hey, that gives us a clue that these phablets will be launch in the Philippines very soon.

Cherry Mobile Flare HD Review

Cherry Mobile Flare HD front
Cherry Mobile Flare HD front
One of the first products line up for Cherry Mobile this year is the Cherry Mobile Flare HD. Last year, we were one of the few lucky people to get the first dibs of “HD ng bayan” phone. Yep, it is the most affordable phone from Cherry Mobile that packs an HD screen and a quad-core processor. Not only that, the Cherry Mobile Flare HD also packs a decent 12 Megapixel Camera sensor. Why don’t you check out my review after the break.

Look guys, the Cherry Mobile Flare HD is one of the most solid phone that I’ve tried. Actually, it is the most solid phone that I’ve tried from a local brand. The phone isn’t that big since it only rocks a tall 4.3” display. At the back, you’ll see the neat looking plastic-clad back cover which also covers the side of the Cherry Mobile Flare HD. That also makes the back cover harder to remove.

The Cherry Mobile Flare HD was very light. It’s a delight to the hands thanks to the small dimensions and its lightweight design. Actually, the Cherry Mobile Flare HD looks very neat and there were no unnecessary aesthetic designs added to it. The volume and power buttons, weight, and design just feels right. But of course, not everybody is a fan of small devices these days. However, I notice that the icons of those 3 capacitive buttons below are quite small, not really a big issue for me but it will be nice if it was larger.

One of the main features of the Cherry Mobile Flare HD is the 4.3” HD display. In today’s standards, 4.3” isn’t that big anymore but the display just feels right especially for those people who are into one-hand typing but if you’re a media junkie and a gamer, you might ask for a larger screen size, but c’mon guys, this is the cheapest HD phone in the market right now.

Another thing that I really like on this phone is the thin bezel but don’t worry, I didn’t had any accidental touches despite having that thin bezel. Since this has a 4.3” display with a 720p resolution, the pixel density was quite high and it looks pretty sharp. You’ll also love the great viewing angles of this smartphone. If you’re asking about sunlight legibility, yes, It was good.

Inside the Cherry Mobile Flare HD lies a 4 GB Internal storage which is expandable up to 32 GB. There’s a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Mediatek processor and 1 GB of RAM which will be 2014’s mid-range standards. We’ll talk about the performance of this phone later. While you can find the MicroUSB port and the 3.5mm audio jack at the top of the phone.

The battery of the Cherry Mobile Flare HD is rated at 1800mAh which isn’t enjoyable especially for heavy users. Just like the smartphone’s Flare brothers, the battery life of smartphone didn’t shine. It only last up to half a day on me at average use. When I was playing Asphalt 8, the battery drains like hell. I really suggest that you bring a power bank or an extra battery with you. The audio quality of the phone was just okay especially for its price. I didn’t expect that much on this smartphone when it comes to that.

The Cherry Mobile Flare HD runs on Android 4.2. Not the latest, but don’t worry, most smartphone aren’t really updated to its latest versions. One thing that I really like on the local brands is that most of them doesn’t add a lot of bloatwares on the phone and yep, the Cherry Mobile Flare HD isn’t an exception to that.

The Cherry Mobile Flare HD runs on a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core MediaTek processor with a 1 GB of RAM. It’s not the best that you could see on a phone but this hardware could already a lot of games including Asphalt 8 and Real boxing. But again, just like other Quad-Core MediaTek-equipped smartphones, you can’t maxed out all the settings on games. I managed to run Asphalt 8 at medium settings but when we were playing online, it was only playable at the lowest settings. Not really a bad-ass gaming machine but it was pretty acceptable for its price. The Cherry Mobile Flare HD’s Antutu score was 13695.

I was very impressed by the camera quality of the Cherry Mobile Flare HD. The performance of the Cherry Mobile Flare HD was almost on-par with the Cherry Mobile Apollo which has the same 12 MP BSI camera. The images were sharp and the shots at lowlight were pretty good. This smartphone has probably the best camera on its price range.

Overall, I was very impress with the Cherry Mobile Flare HD. The build quality was solid, there’s a powerful Quad-Core MediaTek processor, the display was gorgeous and the camera was really one of the best for its price range. Although some people might not like it because of its small screen size and the battery wasn’t able to last long. If your budget falls near P5,499 then I strongly suggest that you get this phone. The Cherry Mobile Flare HD could even beat the specs of other phones at P6,000 price range. But if still have some moolah to spend, better get the Cherry Mobile Apollo which offers a larger screen.

Disclaimer: the Cherry Mobile Flare HD was given to us by Cherry Mobile last year.

I haven’t tested the Rockchip RK3188 processor which is inside these tablets but knowing ASUS, they wouldn’t put a crappy processor inside their devices. The ASUS MeMoPad 8 and MeMoPad 10 are priced at Php 9,995 and Php 13,995 respectively. The prices are quite attractive.

Aside from the Playstation 4, the mini console, the Playstation Vita TV has now arrived in the Philippines. Yes, we’re ahead of Japan in PS4 launch and we’re also ahead of US in the PS Vita TV launch. If you don’t know what a Playstation Vita TV is, well, it’s a microconsole that’ll be able to play selected PS Vita games, stream media content and even stream PS4 games via remote play. And you know what, the Playstation Vita TV is so small you could fit it in your pocket. Don’t worry about the input because it would support a Dualshock 3 or Dualshock 4 controller.

The Playstation Vita TV that is available in Datablitz is R3. You might be able to play other region’s Vita games but you wouldn’t be able to use non-R3 PSN accounts. Sad. The Playstation Vita TV is now available for P8,495 with the Dualshock 3 controller. Not bad if you ask me but it would be better if you also have a PS4 at your living room too.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite now official

0

Samsung has just announced another member of the Samsung Galaxy tablet family — the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite. I think this will be Samsung’s most affordable tablet. So what can we expect inside the tablet? We still got that 7″ display which is a minimum for a tablet and like the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, this one would have a resolution of 1024×600 which is quite small. Powering this device is a Dual-Core 1.2 GHz along with 1 GB of RAM. So what are the difference with this tablet and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0? Check it out after the break.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite Specifications

  • 7″  1024×600 display
  • 1.2 GHz Dual Core Processor
  • 8GB Storage with MicroSD Card slot
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 2 MP Rear Camera
  • 3600mAh Battery
  • Android 4.2
  • Available in Black and white
The only noticeable differences between the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite are the battery and the camera. The camera was downgraded from Tab 3 7.0’s 3.2 MP to 2MP plus there’s no front camera on the Tab 3 Lite and the battery was down to 3600mAh from 4000mAh. Geez. These tablets are really confusing. I guess Samsung wants to target those people who are only into light media consumption and web browsing. No word on the pricing and availability yet.
