SKK Mobile has been releasing a lot of smartphones lately and one of their newest smartphone to arrive here in the Philippines is the SKK Mobile Platinum Advance. It’s a phablet with an octa-core processor. The SKK Mobile Platinum isn’t the best in the market and one of the reasons why is its display. It has 5.5″ display but the resolution is only 960*540 or qHD however, since it has a smaller resolution and there’s an Octa-Core processor inside, expect that this phone would have a high benchmark and a good performance at gaming

Xiaomi Redmi 1S review

0

When Xiaomi told us in their Facebook page that they’ll be arriving here in the Philippines. I was just like “Oh, here’s another Chinese brand that’ll arrive in the country”. But I was wrong. Xiaomi is not just another Chinese brand. They’re more than that. Xiaomi is a brand that just changed the mobile industry. How? By offering smartphones that are really affordable for its specifications. Yep, Xiaomi Mi 3 is a flagship phone but it has an SRP of P10,600. It’s freaking affordable, right? And now, we’ll review their latest mid-range smartphone to arrive here in the Philippines, the Xiaomi Redmi 1s.
Design and Construction
The design of Xiaomi Redmi 1s is generic. It’s simple but it’s very easy to grasp especially if you’ve used an Android smartphone before. The Xiaomi Redmi 1s is purely made up of plastic but it is quite solid compared to other smartphones at its price range. However, I notice Xiaomi Redmi 1S is little thick and heavy for its size but despite that, the ergonomics of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S is quite good. The size of the phone feels just right.

The back of the smartphone has a very neat look. There’s the camera at the top and the Mi logo at the bottom. The back is made up of plastic but it doesn’t feel cheap when you’re holding it. Inside it is a Dual Sim card slot which supports Mini sims and there’s the 2050mAh removable battery.

If you’ve noticed, the capacitive buttons of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S is red. Yep, the buttons are much harder to see especially at low light conditions since it doesn’t have a backlight. Oh and before I forgot, there’s a small LED notification just below the home button.
The Xiaomi Redmi 1S might only have an 8GB internal storage but don’t worry, you could use your MicroSD for your heavy files. Another thing to like in this device is it supports OTG. The audio quality of this device is just okay and it isn’t really that great.
Display

There’s a 4.7” HD IPS display which is quite good. This isn’t the best display in the market but for its price range, the display of this device is quite good. The viewing angles and outdoor visibility on this display is okay and the display is very responsive.  The colors aren’t oversaturated and the display is quite bright.
Software and Performance

Xiaomi Redmi 1S is running on Android 4.3 and it is already on MIUI 6. I noticed a lot of bugs but I’m not really worried since they MIUI has a weekly update to fix bugs.  Despite having a slower Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad-Core Processor, the experience was very similar to the Xiaomi Mi 3. What do I mean with that? Well, the speed, transitions & responsiveness of Xiaomi Redmi 1S is similar to Xiaomi Mi 3. Yep, this phone is pretty responsive and fast.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 is a processor for mid-range devices and it performs pretty well. There’s a 1GB of RAM but despite having that, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S was able to get a score of 20723 at Antutu. Actually, that’s a pretty high score for its specifications.

In gaming, I was a little bit disappointed when I played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It is a very demanding game on Android and I experience lags and slowdowns at lowest settings & 100% resolution. However, the game became smooth when set I set it at 0% resolution. Another game that I’ve tried in this smartphone is NBA 2k14 and it was flawless. I believe that a software update could fix the problem in GTA:SA.

Battery Life
There’s a 2050mAh of battery inside the Xiaomi Redmi 1S and unlike the Xiaomi Mi3, this smartphone cannot last for more than a day but at least the Xiaomi Redmi 1S was able to last a day at school. This smartphone could last up to 10 hours of my heavy use. Not actually that bad.
Camera

Xiaomi Redmi 1S has an 8 Megapixel camera with LED flash and yes folks, the camera of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S performs pretty well and it is probably great for its price range. The images that I took have good colors and it is mostly excellent. The Xiaomi Redmi 1S could also record 1080p videos and the framerates isn’t dropping which is good. .
Verdict

This is probably the best smartphone for its price range. This smartphone might have some competition with the ASUS Zenfone 5 8GB which is priced at P6,500 but man, that’s a P1,000 difference. The performance of this device is pretty good too however I encountered a lot of bugs in this device but hopefully, Xiaomi could fix that soon.

Xiaomi Redmi 1S is only available at Lazada and unfortunately; it is not on open sale unlike the Xiaomi Mi 3. You can order a Xiaomi Redmi 1S at Lazada for P5,500.

Jaybird BlueBuds X Review

0

I’m a pretty active person, I Box, Muay Thai, Go on hikes and runs and I keep moving while listening to music – and the BlueBuds X are a great companion to have while on the go in the gym, at play at work or just chilling.

The Rundown:

2 Earbuds with a cord in the middle, and some controls. JayBird Bluebuds X are wireless earbuds that are sweat resistant – and have a lifetime guarantee. It pairs wirelessly thru Bluetooth.

Pairing:

You can pair up to 8 devices on the Bluebuds X and it uses Bluetooth 2.1 HDR coupled with Jaybird’s own special codec that’s called Shift Premium Bluetooth audio – it basically compresses the audio with high quality. Pairing is pretty simple – Turn on your device’s Bluetooth, and hit the center button on the Bluebuds X – You’ll hear a Beep, and once connected a voice prompt will saying so (Her name is Jenna). I’ve tried it with my BlackBerry Z30 and it works great! If you own an iPhone, it will display a battery indicator on the status bar. There was virtually no lag / skip at all and im very happy about that!

Controls:

On one side of the BlueBuds X, there’s a sliver of plastic where the controls and microphone are. The center button serves as the Power, Connect, Pause/Play and Redial (Double tap). The volume rockers – aside from controlling volume – serve as skip / next song (Long hold) 3 buttons and no fuss. Pretty simple to use.

Sound:

Sound quality on the BlueBuds X is superb. I was really impressed by the bass in particular and treble was very crisp and sharp, and mids had great tone, Overall sound quality is very rich. Alongside great sound quality, the Bluebuds X also did not let much sound pollution offering a great experience as a whole.

Call quality is also pretty good. Even if the mic is behind your ears, the flat cord is angled so that the mic is facing forward and towards your mouth. I was walking along katipunan during rush hour while talking to someone and it was pretty clear.

Whether you’re listening to music, making a call or listening to an audio book, the Bluebuds X will not disappoint.

Battery Life:

I have absolutely no idea how they crammed the battery in this thing. Seriously. On the Box the BlueBuds X shows 8 Hours of battery life per charge, so I tested it with a normal days use.

I started the day at 8, I went to work listening to music, made a few calls with it, came home around 6. Went to the gym while listening to music, Used it while boxing and working out in the gym. Went home listening to music and it’s still got juice left in it!

Checking battery life is pretty simple, in standby mode just press one of the volume rockers and you’ll see a small light on the buds – Green means you’re still pretty good. Red is nearing lowbatt. (Jenna will also tell you if you’re at 20%)

iOS users will have a battery monitor in the upper right.

Fit:

Designed as sports buds, the BlueBird X goes above and beyond the call of duty. The Fit is comfortable, also thanks to the rubber cushions and the buds. You can wear them under ear OR over the ears – in over the ear mode JayBird provides clips so that you can neatly bundle the cable – providing for a tighter fit.

Aside from being comfortable, these things really stay in place. I went boxing with them and they didn’t even budge – which is awesome.

Here’s a video of my boxing with it.

Sweat Proof:

I sweat a lot – and I’ve broken a few headphones and earbuds because of sweat but not this pair. The Bluebuds X uses Liquipel to repel sweat from sensitive areas and it does so pretty effectively – and they put their money on it too with a lifetime guarantee. I got caught in the rain without an umbrella and I was just chugging along happily listening to music – even if I was soaking wet. Mind you it’s not waterproof so you can’t submerge it in water.

Inside the Box

  • BlueBuds X Premium Bluetooth Buds
  • 3 pair ear tips (S,M,L) none installed.
  • 3 pair secure fit ear cushions (S,M,L)
  • 2 X-Fit cord management clips
  • Standard Micro USB Cable
  • Premium Protective Carry Case

Shut up and take my money!

JayBird BlueBuds X are available for Php 7,490. A bit hefty but worth the investment – you’re getting a great set of earbuds that look great, fit perfectly and sound awesome and you can take with you on adventures. You can grab them from the following stores:

Cherry Mobile Alpha Series TV ad with Kim Chiu Launched!

0

Cherry Mobile is the latest brand to join the Windows family and last week, they just launched their newest TVC for the Cherry Mobile Alpha Series on Umagang Kay Ganda and Unang Hirit. Their brand ambassador, Kim Chiu has shown the best features of Windows and Windows Phone like the synchronization of live tiles.

The Cherry Mobile devices that are featured in this TVC are Cherry Mobile Alpha Style, Alpha Luxe, Alpha Play and Alpha Morph. I’m currently using a Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe and I’m very satisfied with it (So watch out for my review!) while the Cherry Mobile Alpha Style is the world’s most affordable Windows Phone.

However, if you’re into productivity, you might want to consider the Alpha Morph which is a 10.1″ Windows tablet and yes, it can run the full version of Microsoft office and it can even run DOTA. If you want more portability, you can opt for the Alpha Play instead. It’s an 8″ Windows tablet and yes, it can still run your favorite Windows 8 applications.
