Cherry Mobile Magnum S Review

2
The Cherry Mobile Magnum S is just one of the few available Octa-Core smartphones in the market. It’s not the cheapest Octa-core smartphone in the market but it got some features that you’ll like. To know more about its feature, just read the review below.
Design and Construction
First things first folks. Cherry Mobile Magnum S has a faux-metal body and the back isn’t removable so don’t expect a removable battery and unfortunately, there’s no MicroSD card slot. The design of the Cherry Mobile Magnum S looks simple at the front but at the back, you’ll see its brushed metal back. A fauxed-metal one. It feels good, looks good and makes the phone more premium. The curves at the back and the flat sides makes the phone easier to hold too.

One thing I noticed iimmediately in this phone is its weight. The Cherry Mobile Magnum S is freakin light. It isn’t light compared to the Cherry Mobile Razor 2 but the Cherry Mobile Magnum S is pretty light for its size. This smartphone has Dual Sim slots and it supports two sizes – mini sim and micro sim however, only the mini sim supports 3G.

Like what I’ve said before, this phone doesn’t have a MicroSD card slot that’s why you can only rely on the 16GB internal storage of the smartphone. But don’t worry folks, you can save your files on your USB because this smartphone supports USB OTG. The speaker grill of the phone is placed below the logo of the phone at the back and I can say that the audio quality of the Cherry Mobile Magnum S is pretty good. It’s clear, crisp and it’s quite loud.

Display

There’s a 5” HD display on this device and it is protected by Gorila Glass 3. Despite having  only an HD display, the Cherry Mobile Magnum S has a great display. The colors were good and the watching videos on it was pretty good.  You won’t have a problem when you’re outside too because the display has a pretty good outside visibility under bright sunlight.
Operating system and performance

The Cherry Mobile Magnum S is running on Android 4.4 Kitkat and one thing that I like in this phone is its stock launcher which is very fast and the transitions were very smooth but there’s one thing that I hate in every Cherry Mobile Android smartphones – the start launcher. I never liked it because it makes the phone slower to wake up and it takes more memory that’s why I always disable it. And just like the other Cherry Mobile smartphones, you can’t uninstall that on the Cherry Mobile Magnum S.
This smartphone is one of the best that I’ve tried in the local market when it comes to gaming. It is powered by a 1.7GHz Octa-Core MT6592 processor and there’s a 1GB of RAM. That 1GB of RAM might not be pleasing to our ears when we hear it but the Cherry Mobile Magnum S is pretty good at gaming. Actually, this smartphone got a score of 30862 at Antutu 5.

Gaming performance

I’ve tried different games on this smartphone and all of them works and runs pretty great. If you’re playing not-so-heavy games like NBA 2k14 and Dead Trigger 2, you won’t have any problem. I’ve tried Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and I was surprised to know the frame rates were pretty good on it despite having almost max settings on it. Yeah, this smartphone could play almost all games that you want. Modern Combat 4 works pretty well too.
The Cherry Mobile Magnum S doesn’t have a removable battery but don’t worry, the battery life was pretty good. This smartphone lasts up to a day of average use on me. Oh heavy use, this smartphone could probably last up to half a day.
Camera

One special feature of the Cherry Mobile Magnum S is the front facing flash. That feature is great for people who are always taking a selfie. The 8 Megapixel front facing camera is just okay for taking photos and yes, the front facing flash really helps in taking better selfies at low light conditions.

At the back, you got an 18 Megapixel camera with Dual LED flash. Don’t get fooled with numbers because a larger megapixel count doesn’t mean that the camera is better. Just like its other Cherry Mobile Smartphone brothers with interpolated camera, I notice photos tend be noisier but this smartphone could capture better images. Its camera is not the best but at its price range, It’s just okay.
Verdict

The Cherry Mobile Magnum S isn’t the best smartphone in its price range but this smartphone got some features that others doesn’t have like the front facing flash for selfies. The display and gaming performance of this smartphone are pretty great too. If you can live without the MicroSD card slot, Cherry Mobile Magnum S is now avaialable for P9,999.

I know, the prices of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus are ridiculous. If you’ve seen my post earlier today, you are probably shocked at high the iPhones were priced. They’re priced way higher than expected because of the high demand. Don’t worry, it will normalized soon but for now, I think Kimstore is offering the lowest price for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

iPhone 6

64GB – P55,000
128GB – P57,000

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus has recently been launched and unfortunately, Philippines isn’t one of the countries that will get it first but thankfully, our friends at Widget City will be bringing the new iPhones to our shores. Samsung Curved UHD TV Experience

0

Samsung treated us for a day with their awesome Samsung Curved UHD TV at Shangri-La Makati. And yes, this Curved TV is probably one of the best that you could buy in the market. This TV is awesome because it is one of the first curved TV of Samsung that has a QHD resolution.  Yep, the resolution of the Samsung UHD Curved TV is 3840×2160.

Aside from the Curve display, another thing to love in this is the 78” display. It’s freaking big and yes UHD resolution looks good in it but of course, you’ll need to have a video that has the same resolution to fully enjoy the Samsung UHD Curved TV. Thankfully, Samsung has  provided us with 4K movies along with the Curved UHD TV.

UHD TVs are just starting to get momentum so don’t expect that your favorite movies of the past would come already in 4K. Some  movies that I’ve watched in 4K are Night in the Museum and Wolverine: Origins. And yes folks, if you’re on a 78-inch TV, you would notice the difference between 1080p and UHD movies and one big advantage of Samsung UHD Curved TV  is that even if the display is big and the viewer is near the TV, you can see most of the display  even without moving your head because the display is curve.

Samsung UHD Curved TV isn’t powered by Android but it’s a Smart TV that also features some apps like Skype but of course, you’ll have to buy a camera that will be attached on the TV to fully enjoy the features of Skype.  There are also some games that you could enjoy and some useful apps that are preinstalled like browser and YouTube however, you might find it hard to type because there’s no keyboard on the remote but it is easier to navigate because the remote works like a Wii controller.

At first, I had a hard time navigating the interface of the Samsung UHD Curved TV but I got used to it a few minutes later. One of its features that I really love is the multi-screen. Basically, multi-screen works like Multi-Window on Android but this one takes time to load but hey, it’s really awesome to watch movies while browsing the web on a gigantic curved TV.

Another cool feature this TV have is the 2D-3D feature. It was already present on their former Smart TV but it is really awesome to mention that again on this article (huehue!). Samsung UHD Curved TV supports voice recognition too and you can even command the Smart TV to open apps.

Overall, I think the TV is awesome. The curved display is really a game changer. It will be also awesome if you have this TV along with your Samsung Galaxy devices because the ecosystem is expanding and growing and it will work great with your Samsung Curved UHD TV. I wish I could review the Samsung Curved UHD TV again. (Hehe!)

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 Review

0
Samsung offers a variety of tablets in their line-up and it offers different specifications and screen sizes to cater different people. They have the Galaxy Tab S, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab Pro series for their high-end tablet tablets while at entry level and mid-range, they have the Samsung Galaxy Tab series. Today, I’ll give you a review of their affordable 7-inch tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0.

Design and Construction

The design philosophy of Samsung hasn’t change and the design is very similar to other Samsung Galaxy Tab devices. But unlike its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 sports a 7-inch HD display with a thinner bezels. At the back, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 sports a faux-leather rear and there’s a rear camera with no LED flash. The thin bezels of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 makes me feel like it’s an oversized phone rather than a tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 is not the thinnest but it’s very portable. Since the bezels on the side are thin, the smartphone fits in my back pocket. At the top, there’s a speakerphone so you can answer phone calls.  The buttons of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 were well placed. Below, you could see the Micro USB but unfortunately, it doesn’t support USB OTG. Like what I’ve said earlier, this device supports phone functionality and it’s very easy to put in and remove your mini sim card from the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4.

There’s no LTE on this device but it supports HSPA+ and I didn’t had any problems with its connectivity. The audio quality of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 isn’t really that good. The audio wasn’t that loud but the quality wasn’t that bad. Although, I wish that they could make the speaker louder in their next generation of Samsung Galaxy Tab. Unfortunately, there’s no OTG on this device.

Display
7-inch is the minimum display size for a tablet and unlike previous 7-inch Galaxy tab devices, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 sports a HD display. The quality of the display is very far from the Super AMOLEDs but that’s understandable because this one is just an entry level tablet. The display isn’t bad. For me, the display feels just right for its price range. The bezels on this device is also noteiceably thinner than I expected which makes the tablet very portable and thanks to that, it fits on my back pocket. The display of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 supports 5 multi-touch points.
Software

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 is powered by Android 4.4 Kitkat and its interface is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S5 however, don’t expect too much from it. It is only powered by a process which is far from the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S.

There are also a lot of apps and features that aren’t present on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 like Sidesync which is present on its bigger brothers. However, the feel and soul of Touchwiz UI is very present. One feature that I really like on it is the Multi-window. It helps me to do a lot more and my productivity has greatly increased thanks to that and I barely notice any lags when using Chrome and Internet app.

The battery life of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 fares well. At average use, I was able to use the tablet for 2 days.

Well, I’m not really a heavy user when it comes to tablets. But I was pretty satisfied with it. When it comes to games, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 doesn’t shine. Dead trigger 2 and NBA 2k14 on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 was playable but it wasn’t that smooth. Real Boxing always crashes whenever I try to open it and I have no idea why. At Antutu, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 was able to get a score of 13685.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 got a 3.2 Megapixel rear camera and a 1.3 Megapixel front camera.  Unfortunately, there’s no LED flash on this tablet but I already expected that since this is Samsung’s entry level tablet. As expected, the camera of the tablet isn’t really that good compared to other tablets but it is acceptable for its price.
Verdict

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 is Samsung’s entry level tablet. It isn’t the most affordable tablet but if you want an affordable tablet that has some Samsung features and soul, then, better get this one. But of course, if you want something better, you could go for Galaxy TabPro or Galaxy Tab S series but it will come with a more expensive price. Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 is now available for P13,990 and it is available in white only

Deezer vs Spotify: Which is better?

2

This year, music streaming became big in the country with the arrival of Spotify and Deezer. I love using music streaming apps rather than the built-in music player on my device. Why? because there’s no need to download for the music and it is easier to discover new songs on these applications. If you’re confused which is better between Spotify and Deezer, then better check out the infographic below.

I actually use Spotify because I discovered Spotify first before Deezer (hehe!) and my telco offers a free data for Spotify (Yep, GoSurf!). The premium plan pricing is also cheaper on Spotify and you could even have a free premium access to Spotify if you’ve registered to GoSurf. So guys, what do you think? which is better and why?

JBL J22i Review

0

I’ve used the JBL J22i for a few weeks and I can say that JBL is really serious with its bass. The one that I got was the white one. Just like the previous units that I’ve reviewed from JBL. JBL is also known for making earphones and headphones with their signature orange color and it looks good for me.

Design and Construction

The earphones is made up of plastic while there’s an embossed JBL logo on it and there’s a flat wire which helps it to be less tangled and honestly, I’m a big fan of flat wires on earphones and headphones. The wires are also long enough from your ears to your pocket.
One thing that I don’t like in it is that the earpiece always falls off my ear even if I already changed the earbuds. The JBL J22i packs a control buttons and built-in microphone, which you can only use on iOS devices. But of course, the built-in microphone will work on Android and yes, the mic was clear and flawless.

Sound Quality

When it comes to sound quality, the JBL J22i doesn’t disappoint. Just like its other brothers, the JBL J22i has a lovely bass quality to offer. The JBL J22i’s performance was quite good in all aspects. At max volumes, I didn’t experience distortion or awful sounds on it.

At mids and highs, the JBL J22i doesn’t disappoint too however I feel that the JBL J22i needs more punch at some music. It also lacks a little bit of crisp too.
Again, just like its brothers, the JBL J22i is made for those people who love bass. This is not probably the most affordable earphone in the market but it is definitely one of the best in its price that brings you with quality.
JBL J22i is now available at JBL Sound Gallery, B3 Bonifacio High Street,  JBL Acoustical Space, 4th F, Cyberzone, SM North Annex  & JBL Digital Dreams, 4th F Cyberzone, SM Megamall Bldg. B.
