JAM Online’s 2012 Graduation Gift Guide

0
I have no idea why I included the panda in this post

Ah. March, the year when our parents cried because of their child’s graduation or maybe because of the expensive things that we ask our parents like cars or gadgets after graduating. Most of graduating students  right now are probably thinking of what should they ask to their parents. Maybe a house, a permission to have a girlfriend, a car or probably GADGETS. Since last year’s JAM Online’s 2011 Gadget gift guide has a lot of viewers, this March I’ll be suggesting some of the gadgets that you might want to ask to your parents after graduation and to ease your pain of finding how much and where you can buy it, I’ll add the price and stores on where you can buy those gadgets. So let’s start with the most affordable one.

Samsung Galaxy Y Duos

Samsung Galaxy Y has been a hit in the Philippines because of its affordable price. And now, the Android sporting phone has a dual sim twin, the Samsung Galaxy Y duos. It has a larger screen and the camera has been upgraded to 3 megapixel too. Well, I recommend this if you are into dual sim phone with an affordable price tag. Check out its specifications here

Price: P8,500
Available at: Widget City

Samsung Galaxy W

This midrange Android smartphone sports a 3.7″ screen with a decent 5 megapixel that can record HD videos. Not bad if you ask me. We’re not sure if it will be updated to Ice cream sandwich but one thing is for sure. It is a decent midrange smartphone. Check out its specifications here

Price: P14,700
Available at: Widget City

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Not a fan of iOS? Here’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus that features Honeycomb OS powered by a Dual core processor. It has front and rear camera for video calls too. Oh and this tablet supports SMS at MMS too. It means that you can text or call directly from the tab as long as you have sim card inside.

Price: P21,800
Available at: Widget City

Panasonic Lumix GF2

Most of you might be familiar Panasonic but not as a camera brand. Yes, Panasonic sells camera under the Lumix brand and I must say that they’re doing well in the ILC market (that’s interchangeable lens camera my friends). ILC cameras are more portable and slimmer compared to DSLRs but these cameras can capture images at DSLR quality. Oh and don’t worry about the lens, you can change it (that’s why it is called as Interchangeable cameras)

Price: P22,000
Available at: Widget City

Nokia Lumia 800

We reviewed this phone a month ago and frankly, it was one of the best phone I’ve tried. It doesn’t have  a front facing camera and a dual core processor but the Windows Phone and the 8 megapixel camera was great. To know more about this phone, you might want to check out our review here

Price: P22,500
Available at: Widget City

The new iPad/iPad 3

Not yet available in the market. For those people who doesn’t know the new features of the new iPad, it will have a 5 megapixel camera, Retina Display and faster graphics. Expect this tablet to arrive this summer

Samsung Galaxy Note

This 5.3″ monster was released a year ago and this one fills the gap between a phone and a tablet. It features a 5.3″ HD Screen in where you can use the S-pen stylus that you can use to draw images and doodle on screenshots and even write your notes on the tabphone. If you are not a fan of big screens and Android then just skip to the next one

Price: P25,300 for black and P25,800 for white
Available at: Widget City

Nikon D3100

If you are not satisfied with the features of the ILC cameras then you might want to buy Nikon’s most affordable DSLR camera, the Nikon D3100. Compared to its predecessor, this DSLR can record videos up to 1080p at 24 fps. A nice camera especially for first time DSLR users

Price: P25,900 (With free 4GB card and screen guard)

Sony Xperia S

This smartphone was just announced last January and was made available last month. It features a monster 12 megapixel camera but this one still use a dual core processor inside. 2012 is the year of quad core processors (well, not on the new iPad). Anyway, this one might be great for style-conscious and fashionable graduating students

Price: P28,500
Available at: Widget City

Sony VAIO Y

Sony VAIO Y is one of the most affordable VAIO laptop. It is available in 4 different colors — Green, Pink, white and Black. This 11.6″ laptop is powered by AMD processor and can last up to 4 hours on its juice. Girls might like this laptop. Why? because it is available in pink and it has a very attractive design

Price: P41,500

It’s official: The new iPad 2012

0
UPDATE: It has a dual core processor with quad core graphics processing unit. Okay, You’re good at fooling us Apple.

UPDATE 2: So it will be called as “the new iPad” no numbers or HD just “the new iPad”. I shall call it as the iPad 2012!

UPDATE 3: iPad prices:

As of this posting, it is still called as the “New iPad” They didn’t announced whether the device will have the iPad 3, iPad HD or iPad 4G moniker. Anyway, some of the new notable features of the “New iPad” are the Retina display, A5X processor, 5 Megapixel camera, Siri-like feature and LTE. You got all of that for the same starting price, $499. Not bad isn’t it?. The retina display will rock a 2048 x 1560 resolution, that’s bigger than your Macbook pro folks. The A5X processor packs a quad core graphics inside and it is 2x faster than Nvidia’s Tegra 3 and even though you have a dual core processor with quad-core graphics, it’ll still manage to have a 10 hours of battery life even with LTE. Yes, that’s right folks. The new iPad has 4G LTE inside and it can reach up to 75 Mbps of speed. There is also a 5 megapixel camera that has autofocus and Backside illumination which means that this new iPad is expected to have better image quality on pictures oh and it has 1080p video recording too. The best thing in here is that they still manage to retain the prices. Yep, it will still start at $499 for the Wifi + 3G. No available release date for the Philippines though!

Sun Cellular’s TU 200 can help you save a lot of chaching$!

0

We all know that Sun Cellular started this unlimited promos in the Philippines. I remember back then when my phone was a just Sony Ericsson T230. there were no unlimited promos or any promos from the cellular networks but when Sun cellular appeared and offered the unlimited promos, the other networks such as Smart and Globe were threatened and because of its affordable services they were forced to offer unlimited promos too.

I won’t make this post any longer because with this table, you’ll already understand why Sun cellular’s TU200 can help you save a LOT of money. Anyway, just take a look at the table:

1 month expiry bechez!

As you can see with Sun Cell’s TU 200, you can save a lot of money. Obviously, in order to use the unlimited texting and 4 hours of calls you have to text/call your fellow Sun user. Both won’t work on other networks except for the 500 texts to other networks.

Worried about the purchase of Digitel/Sun Cellular by PLDT? Don’t worry, these unlimited features won’t be gone anytime soon because according to Mr. Pangan of Sun Cell, these unlimited features will stay at Sun Cellular because it is part of the agreement between the guys at PLDT and the government.

Anyway, If you are such a sweet and adorable couple who loves to text with each other everyday and sometimes call each other then you might want to switch to Sun Cellular because you just have to spend P200 a month just to text each other every month. Very affordable isn’t it?

Disclosure: This is NOT. I repeat. This is NOT a paid post. I just want to share it with you guys.

For that price, you’ll get a 4.3″ HD screen, 12 megapixel camera and a dual core processor. I know it’s quite expensive compared to other phones but this phone looks gorgeous. Nokia 808 Pureview says your cameras are sh*tty. Mine’s 41 Megapixel

0
Nokia 808 Pureview
Nokia 808 Pureview

3:30 PM Philippine time, the Nokia MWC event started and they announced some of their newest products in the Nokia lineup 2012 and one device catches the attention of almost all viewers. The Nokia 808 Pureview. Why is it? The phone rocks the same Symbian OS and the good’ ol’ 4″ nHD screen. Here’s the thing, this phone is equipped with 41 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with Pureview technology. That’s not a typo folks, it’s real, that’s 41 not 14 and it is pronounced as forty-one. It features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology. Pretty awesome right?

Yes, even I was shocked when I heard that the Nokia 808 Pureview would have a 41 Megapixel camera. Even our camera doesn’t even reach that high. But boys and girls, the quality of the image doesn’t rely on the megapixel alone. It is on the sensor and other sh*tty stuffs inside the camera. Anyway, to enlighten you guys here’s a post that might educate you by Alexei Rivera of thetechnoclast dot com

Here’s a press release for more information regarding the Nokia 808 Pureview:

Nokia 808 PureView ushers in a revolution in smartphone imaging
Nokia sets a new industry standard with the first in a range of high end experiences based on exclusive Nokia PureView imaging technologies.
Barcelona, Spain – Nokia today ushered in a new era in high-end smartphone imaging with the Nokia 808 PureView.  This is the first smartphone to feature Nokia PureView imaging technologies, bringing together high resolution sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia developed algorithms, which will support new high-end imaging experiences for future Nokia products.

The Nokia 808 PureView features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology.  At standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) this means the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images imaginable.  At high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum) it means the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details. With superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, and on social networks, the Nokia 808 PureView makes it possible for anyone to capture professional looking images in any conditions.

In addition to superior still imaging technology, the Nokia 808 PureView, also includes full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and the world’s first use of Nokia Rich Recording.  Rich Recording enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality, previously only possible with external microphones.  The Nokia 808 PureView also features exclusive Dolby Headphone technology, transforming stereo content into a personal surround sound experience over any headphones and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.
“Nokia PureView imaging technology sets a new industry standard by whatever measure you use,” said Jo Harlow, executive vice president of Nokia Smart Devices.  “People will inevitably focus on the 41 megapixel sensor, but the real quantum leap is how the pixels are used to deliver breath-taking image quality at any resolution and the freedom it provides to choose the story you want to tell.”

Well, I’m not amazed until I’ve tried this phone.
