Blackberry Curve 9380 Specs and Price in the Philippines

0
A new Blackberry curve has been announced at Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday. Unfortunately, I wasn’t invited for that event (Yeah, I wished I was included). Anyway, Blackberry Curve 9380 is the first BB curve phone that doesn’t have a QWERTY keyboard and uses a full touchscreen keyboard. It has a 3.2″ capacitive touch screen (smaller than the iPhone). I don’t have an issue with that since the Blackberry Curve line are the most affordable blackberries out there. It has an optical trackpad just like the other Blackberry curve. It is powered by a 806 mhz processor with 512 mb RAM and it has a 5 megapixel camera. Not bad my friends.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray SHORT Review — A day at the Cemetery

0
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray’s Homescreen

I was able to have a hands-on of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray during the holiday. Well, it is not a long hands-on but it is just a first impression because I just played this cellphone for hours not days. Anyway, Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is just like the smaller version of the Xperia Arc. The Xperia Ray’s screen size is 3.3” which is a bit small if you think compared to smartphones these days. Most smartphones that we see in the market ranges from 3.5”-4.3” and even some of them reach 4.7” like the HTC Titan and there is a 5.3” like the Samsung Galaxy Note who is still confuse whether he is a phone or a tablet. Even though the 3.3” is a bit small for you, I think this one fits okay right for me.

If you notice, the Xperia 2011 phone lineup specifications is almost similar to each other. All of them use the Snapdragon chipset. Yep, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray also have the same specifications like the other Xperia phones. Anyway, having a single core on 3.3” phone with a sleek design is not an issue since most dual core phones ranges from 3.8”-4.3″. Oh and having a larger phone doesn’t mean that you’ll have a faster and more responsive phone. It is the specifications that powers the device is the one that matters.

SO WHAT’S INSIDE THIS PHONE
Check out this link to know the specs of the phone: http://www.jeromeancheta.com/2011/06/sony-ericsson-xperia-ray-specs-reviews.html

DESIGN
When you look at the screen size of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, some of you may think that this phone is a bit small. Yep, when I haven’t seen this phone personally, I think it was too small and not attractive for me. But when I saw this and lay my hands on it. My first impression was all wrong. The small screen size is just right for me.I can even type at the QWERTY keyboard at portrait mode swiftly. By the way, I’m not a large guy. I’m just a 5’6” 17 year old tech blogger (Yes, I’m a minor).

I really like the body too, it is not made up of metallic materials but the phone feels solid and stylish. Oh and I must admit that, I’m a fan of Xperia Arc before. I was drooling for the Xperia Arc before but I changed my mind (Thanks Alex of TheTechnoclast.com for enlightening me!). Anyway, I’m not bias with the Xperia ray but this phone’s build was good. Yep, good not excellent (I told you, I’m not in favor of Sony Ericsson). I like how HTC made their cellphones solid compared to Sony Ericsson.

Another unique feature that this phone have is the Mobile Bravia engine. It allows the phone to have a clearer and have a better quality playback of videos and pictures in the phone’s screen. We tested some videos and pictures and the phone’s display was good. Too bad, I didn’t have a screenshot of that but I can tell you that this is behind the Samsung Super AMOLED Plus display on the Samsung Galaxy S II.
CAMERA
One of the advantages and key features of some Xperia phones is the Exmor-R camera feature. Exmor-R allows more light to come inside the camera which allows the camera to have a brighter images at low-light conditions. I even tested it during UNDAS and yes, the camera was excellent and you can even show the difference between these 2 images.

You can see the difference between those 2 images. The Xperia Ray’s image was brighter and even more colorful compared to the HTC 7 trophy. We also tested it on the Samsung Galaxy SII but I didn’t have the sample image. I know this is a bit awkward to use a HTC 7 Trophy but that is the only phone we have during that time (yeah, a bit sad =( ). Anyway, the image quality of Xperia Ray surpasses the cameras of HTC 7 trophy and Samsung Galaxy S II.

Image shot on the Exmor-R equipped Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray

This time I tried the video recording. I didn’t have a video during the low-light condition (I told you that this is just a short review of the phone at the cemetery) but I have a video at daytime. Xperia Ray is capable of playback and recording of 720@30fps which is normal for phones with 1 ghz processor. All I notice is that it has a good quality but the camera took some time to focus on another object. See the video below:

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray Hands-on

Oh and we also tried skype on Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray and it works flawlessly!. We tried to call on a Samsung Galaxy SII and on my Mac!. Look at this screen shot.

Well, I can’t say much about the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray since I just borrowed it for a while. These are just some of my first impressions so some of it might be wrong. Anyway, I love the device (not because I’m a Sony Ericsson Fanboy) but because it just exceeds my expectations. The 3.3” screen was good, the performance was excellent and the OS was great. Anyway Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is expensive at mall stores, expect the price at P15,000-P20,000 but on Widget City you can buy it for as low as P13,100 (Well, that’s the pink version)

0
Good morning Marquez!

First of all I want to clarify to you guys that I fell asleep a while ago when we were watching the Pacquaio-Marquez fight. Before I fell asleep, I thought Marquez will win the fight but it turn out that Pacman still won via majority decision. Well, I can’t really decide who won the match since I’m not the judge LOL. Seriously, because I fell asleep. Here are some of the Twitter and Facebook reactions I saw

The reason why Pacquaio won the fight

Oh comelec mehehehe
De la hoya still hates pacman?
Amen

Juan Marquez lost to Manny. But he won the respect of the Filipino community. Amen to you Marquez.

Cherry Mobile Candy and Candy Chat Specs and Price in the Philippines — Android for the masses

0
Last 11-11-11, Cherry Mobile also announced their newest Android phones in their lineup. Yes, there are a lot of Android devices including tablets that was introduced last friday. The two phones that got my attention is the Cherry Mobile Candy and Candy chat. Why?, because they use Android OS but they still manage to have a price lower than P5,000. Interesting right?. Obviously, this phone targets the youth who wants to have a smartphone OS. Even though the CM candy phones have a 416 mhz processor, I felt that this phone is still swift compared to Cherry Mobile Orbit that I reviewed a month ago. Oh and did you know that I played Angry Birds on the Candy Chat?, Yep it can handle that one. Anyway, if you’re planning to buy a Cherry Mobile phone, I suggest that you pick these two. Why?, because Android has a lot to offer. I assure you that you’ll love Android.

HTC Sensation XL Specs and Price in the Philippines

0

Last 11-11-11, HTC Philippines launched the HTC Sensation XL, a bigger brother of the original HTC Sensation. And just like the HTC Titan, it features a 4.7″ screen with a single core 1.5 Ghz Scorpion processor. This is just the Android version of the HTC Titan, but this one is cheaper and has beats audio inside. So if you’re not into the Windows Phone 7 OS, then this one is a good phone for you.

I’m a bit disappointed because they drop the dual-core processor and it has a lower WVGA resolution. They should’ve made it to 540 x 960 resolution or even a 720p resolution. Anyway, it can record 720p videos and not 1080p (yeah thanks to the single core processor). And again, just like the HTC Titan. The HTC Sensation XL is great for people who loves to use their phones for shooting images. It has 8 Megapixel camera with BSI sensor for low-light conditions with f2.2 aperture. Oh and there is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video call on the front too.
I recommend this phone for people who loves music and people who are rooting for a giant phone. Oh and those who love Android and camera.

HTC Sensation XL Specificaitons
132.5 x 70.7 x 9.9 mm, 162.5g
S-LCD capacitive touchscreen, 480 x 800 pixels, 4.7 inches

16 GB storage, 768 MB RAM

Nokia N9 Launched! — Meego gone wild!

0

The twin brother of the Nokia Lumia 800, the Nokia N9 was finally launched here in the Philippines. It was last Wednesday when Nokia Philippines launched their newest flagship phone. The Meego OS, the buttonless screen and the scratch-resistant curve glass are just some of the interesting unique features of the Nokia N9. I know, some of you might be thinking what Meego is. It is just a brand new OS from Nokia which they decided to dump in favor of the more powerful Windows Phone 7. If you ask me about the WP7 OS. Yes it is great. The ecosystem was excellent but they need more apps and games to fill in the marketplace, especially the free ones. Anyway, back to Meego. I haven’t tested the Meego personally (Yep, I missed the launching because of my Calculus class). All I can say is that the OS is dead on arrival. Nokia killed it already. If you want a lot of apps and games then I don’t recommend this one for you. But if you’re a camera junkie, the 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens won’t fail you. It has a better aperture than the iPhone 4S. Anyway, if you want to pre-order a Nokia N9 just visit this link.

Timbre Gitara headphones this December 2011

0

A local brand name Timbre (pronounced as Tam-ber) is about to release their first headphone this December 2011 (Yep, just in time for my birthday). They called the new headphone as “Gitara“, if you don’t know how to speak in tagalog, Gitara is tagalog term for Guitar. The interesting part here is that Timbre team up with Team Manila to design this thing. I think they want to take on Beats. I would love to review this one soon. Anyway the SRP is currently PHP2,499. Waaaaay more affordable than the Beats headset.

Cherry Mobile Stellar Specs and Price in the Philippines

0

Cherry Mobile loves to reveal their new phones at their Facebook page. This afternoon, they just revealed a new Android phone in their lineup. A Android gingerbread-touting phone with a dual sim feature. I guess that this one is the successor of the phone that I previously reviewed, the Cherry Mobile Orbit (yeah the back cover is identical). It has a faster processor, a Qualcomm 7227T 800mhz compared to 528mhz processor of the orbit. The screen size was also upgraded to 3.5″ capacitive touch screen, a 0.3″ bigger than the predecessor, too bad it has the same HVGA resolution. The camera is still at 5 megapixel w/ flash and the unique feature, Dual sim/Dual standby is still inside this thing. Yep, only a few upgrades on this one. But I like the new design, they finally get rid of the call/end call buttons.

Cherry Mobile Stellar Specifications
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
Qualcomm 7227T 800mhz
Dual Sim/Dual Standby
3.5″ HVGA Capacitive Touch Screen
Rom/Ram: 512/512
