OPPO has recently outed the Reno 3 in the Philippines after a few days of teasing of the smartphone. As expected, the smartphone would have a quad-camera setup and of course an interesting design. Unlike the OPPO Reno2, the smartphone does have a big difference when it comes to design. Interested? Check out our review of the smartphone below.

OPPO Reno 3 Review: Design and hardware

The design of the OPPO Reno3 is simpler and it’s less complicated compared to the OPPO Reno2. This time, we got here a glossy plastic back and yes, it’s thinner than I expected that’s why the OPPO Reno 3 does have a better grip and ergonomics than the Reno2 and also, it’s not as sleepy as the previous generation. However, the glossy look of the smartphone does attract a lot of fingerprints which gets a little bit annoying.

Yes, plastic which is a little bit of a downgrade coming from a glass on the previous generation but it does look flashy and beautiful. The Auroral Blue color does look beautiful among the other colors and it’s really eye-catching.

Thankfully, the smartphone doesn’t have a large camera module at the back despite having a quad-camera setup on the OPPO Reno3. The smartphone does have a 48MP rear camera but we’re gonna focus on that one later on.

Thankfully, the OPPO Reno3 comes with USB-C port and it does support the VOOC Charging 4.0 that can charge your smartphone at 30W.

OPPO Reno 3 Review: Battery

When it comes to battery, the OPPO Reno 3 comes with a 4025mAh battery and in our PC Mark test, we only got 8 hours and 14 minutes of battery life which is a little bit bad for me considering the large battery on the smartphone but in my real-life usage, the OPPO Reno 3 comes out better than I expected as I was able to use it from 10 AM – 8 PM before running out of battery.

OPPO Reno 3 Review: Display

The OPPO Reno 3 features a notched 6.4-inch display with Full HD+ resolution. It’s an AMOLED panel which is why the smartphone does look better compared to other smartphones as this one has more vivid colors and the display is actually pretty fine when using it outside.

It’s not the best display on a mid-range smartphone but this one is quite fine already for basic usage.

OPPO Reno 3 Review: Software

One of the best things about the OPPO Reno 3 is the software inside it. The OPPO Reno 3 runs on the latest ColorOS 7 which is a big leap from the previous generation of ColorOS. The ColorOS 7 on this one is smoother, better, and it’s more responsive than ever.

As expected, it also comes with the Android 10 features that we all love on the smartphone including dark mode and its other features. The UI does look better and the colors are really easy on the eye.

OPPO Reno 3 Review: Performance

Inside the smartphone is a MediaTek Helio P90 processor along with 8GB of RAM. Basic apps and games wouldn’t have any problems running on the OPPO Reno 3 and the MediaTek Helio P90 isn’t as powerful as the Snapdragon 730 processor of the OPPO Reno 2 but it is way more powerful than the Snapdragon 665. The price point of this one is comparable to the F-series which makes the OPPO Reno 3 the direct successor of these mid-range smartphones.

We also benchmarked the smartphone and we got these scores:

As seen in the scores, the OPPO Reno 3 is a decent smartphone for below Php20,000. The smartphone can do a little bit of gaming too but don’t expect the best FPS and settings on the OPPO Reno 3. Check out the FPS that we got on the smartphone.

It may not be the best in gaming but we’re happy that we were able to run these games at higher settings.

OPPO Reno3 Review: Camera

For the camera department, the OPPO Reno 3 comes with quad-camera setup with 13MP telephoto lens along with the 48MP main camera, 8MP wide-angle camera, and a 2MP mono-lens for depth sensing. In our test, the OPPO Reno 3 will just pack a fine camera. It’s not the best but a fine 48Mp main camera as it can display pretty good dynamic range and the colors are pretty fine. Selfies will do just fine too on the smartphone. Check out the shots that we took using the smartphone.

OPPO Reno 3 Review: Verdict

The OPPO Reno 3 might not have better specifications than the OPPO Reno 2 but you have to take note that the smartphone is now even more affordable than the previous generation which makes the smartphone really attractive for Filipino consumers.

If you’re into selfies, the OPPO Reno 3 might be the one for you. It might not be the most powerful smartphone out there but the MediaTek P90 can do most of the things that you need on the smartphone.
