Meta just killed the bulky VR headset. At Meta Connect 2026, the company revealed Meta VR Glasses. It is a full VR experience squeezed into glasses that weigh about 100 grams. Which is probably the lightest that we have seen on a VR glasses
Meta VR Glasses Price and Release Date
Meta VR Glasses will go on sale in Spring 2027 for $1,299.99 USD. That positions them well above the Quest 3 but far below Apple Vision Pro territory.
So far Meta has only announced USD pricing, and Canadian availability and pricing are still unconfirmed.
Glasses Form Factor With a Pocketable Compute Puck
The trick is the two-part system. The glasses themselves handle sensors and displays, while a separate puck connected by an optical tether handles compute, battery, and storage — and conveniently clips to your pocket or bag.
Because of that split architecture, Meta VR Glasses are five times lighter than Meta Quest 3. There are no straps or heavy hardware pressing on your face, and the open sides plus a passthrough camera keep you aware of what is happening nearby.
5K Micro-OLED Display With Dolby Vision
The display is genuinely flagship-grade. Meta VR Glasses use a 5K Infinite Display built on micro-OLED panels with 37 pixels per degree, which means crisp text and fine detail that LCD-based headsets struggle with.
Ultra-compact pancake lenses built specifically for this device enable the cinema-grade clarity. Dolby Vision brings ultra-vivid color and sharp contrast, while Dolby Atmos spatial audio is integrated directly into the frames.
Snapdragon Reality Elite and 3-Hour Battery
Power comes from Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Reality Elite processor. Meta promises exceptionally high performance, fast load times, and breakthrough efficiency from the new chip.
The puck battery delivers up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback and supports 45W fast charging. No controllers are needed — you talk to the built-in Meta AI agent, or use your eyes and natural hand gestures to play a movie, open an app, or adjust your workspace.
A Personal IMAX Theater and Courtside Seat
Meta VR Glasses are the first-ever IMAX Enhanced certified VR device. In November, Disney+ subscribers in select countries can start streaming films like Marvel’s The Avengers and Black Panther in 3D, with themed viewing environments like Tatooine, Avengers Tower, and the Scare Floor.
A new Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM app will offer VR Enhanced versions of iconic films like Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope. Your surroundings are transformed with immersive environments, dynamic effects, and spatial audio so you feel like you are living inside the scene, not just watching it.
Meta is also working with Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, ESPN, Tubi, and more to offer the best media lineup of any VR device. Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+ are offering their 3D media catalogs for the very first time, and Meta is partnering with director James Cameron and Lightstorm Vision to debut “first time in 3D” blockbusters in 2027.
Immersive Live Sports in 8K
Sports fans get “Immersive Sports” through a partnership with ESPN. Expect a front-row seat with 8K streaming and 180-degree views, starting with college football this year on Meta Quest.
Once Meta VR Glasses launch, Meta plans more than 100 immersive live sports events each year from the best seat in the house, thanks to partners including MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC.
Your Office Anywhere, Plus 75+ Launch Games
Meta VR Glasses give you a massive virtual screen — or several if you want — anywhere you are. Any flat surface turns into a keyboard and touchpad, and full-color passthrough keeps your desk, phone, and surroundings visible while you work.
For gaming, more than 75 games will be playable at launch using only hand gestures. With Xbox Cloud Gaming, you can stream hundreds more without any extra hardware.
Hologram Calling
Meta is also introducing hologram technology for hands-free video calling on Meta VR Glasses. It creates a photorealistic digital version of you, including your real-time expressions and reactions, built on years of Codec Avatars research.
When you see someone’s hologram in Meta VR Glasses, they appear in front of you with spatial audio placing their voice where they are, so it feels like you are in the same room. It works with whichever calling app you are using, from WhatsApp to Zoom — people joining from a phone or computer see your hologram on their screen.
Should You Wait for It?
Meta VR Glasses are clearly Meta’s most ambitious consumer hardware yet. The glasses form factor solves VR’s biggest complaint which is comfort while the puck keeps performance at a flagship level.
The Spring 2027 wait is the catch, and $1,299.99 is serious money. For now, the Quest 3 and Quest 3S remain the practical buy, but Meta VR Glasses are the first device that genuinely looks like the future of VR.
