Apple’s rumored iPhone Fold may introduce an iPad-like interface on its inner display, according to a new report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg The foldable device is expected to feature a large screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, similar in size to an iPad mini.
The inner display will reportedly support side-by-side apps and tablet-style layouts, including navigation elements similar to iPad sidebars. However, the device is still expected to run iOS rather than iPadOS. This means that it will not support full windowed multitasking or native iPad apps.
The Phone Fold’s inner display is expected to support new iOS app layouts and navigation elements inspired by iPadOS. Apple is reportedly developing iPad-style sidebars and split-screen capabilities tailored specifically for the larger foldable screen.
Despite the tablet-sized display, the iPhone Fold will still run iOS. It will not support windowed multitasking or full iPadOS features, keeping the experience closer to a phone than a tablet.
New Display Technology to Reduce Screen Crease
The foldable iPhone is also rumored to feature a new display technology designed to reduce the screen crease, along with improved durability compared to other foldable smartphones on the market. The inner display is expected to include a hole-punch cutout for the front camera.
Dual Rear Cameras and Touch ID Power Button
Other rumored features include a dual rear camera system, a hole-punch camera on both the cover display and inner screen, and a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button.
A recent rumor also suggests that Apple may brand its first foldable smartphone as the iPhone Ultra when it officially launched.
