Canon set the bar higher for professional photography, as the company announced the development of the EOS R3 full-frame mirrorless camera and its new lenses.

CANON EOS R3 FULL-FRAME MIRRORLESS CAMERA

The up-and-coming EOS R3 full-frame mirrorless camera will feature a newly developed 35mm full-frame, backlit, stacked CMOS sensor and a DIGIC X image processor. These offerings suggest that the camera is set to provide users with high-level basic functionality needed by professionals and photography enthusiasts.

To excite fans, Canon shared that the device would feature an Eye Control autofocus, allowing users to simply select and move the AF point using their eyes through the viewfinder of the camera. This will enable professionals to capture fast-moving subjects without any hassle.

NEW CAMERA LENSES FOR PROFESSIONALS AND ENTHUSIASTS

Canon also announced its new lenses, designed to meet different needs.

First on the list is the RF100mm F2.8L MACRO IS USM. It can achieve up to 1.4x macro shooting and sports SA control ring that allows users to enjoy their preferred bokeh effect.

Its image stabilizer can also achieve up to five steps IS, and up to eight stops for coordinated IS.

Canon also unleashed its new medium and super-telephoto RF Prime L lenses that can bolster the performance of the EOS R system. The trio includes the RF100mm f/2.8L IS USM, RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM, and the RF600mm f/4L IS USM lenses.

These lenses are native to the RF mount that can provide users with an extra reach that offers a high level of image quality, reliability, and durability.

You can control the performance of the notebook and you can see the status of your notebook in this application. So, if you are looking for a gaming laptop in the market then you might want to take a look at this one.

The benchmarks

Before deciding which is the best notebook for you, let’s check out some of the benchmarks that we’ve done on the notebook. With Cinebench R23 here are the scores that we got:

In Cinebench R23, we can clearly see that the ASUS TUF Dash F15 has an upper hand because this one comes with the H series chip inside which is made for gaming and heavy tasks. With its multi-Core™ power, the notebook won’t have any problems running any applications and games.

While the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i and the Acer Swift 3x comes with Intel® Core™ i7-1185G7 and Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 respectively which is why the sCore™s doesn’t have a really big gap but the Acer Swift 3x features a better Intel® Iris® Xe Max which is why we can have better graphical power on the notebook while the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i comes with Intel® Iris® Xe graphics.

In 3D Mark, the ASUS TUF Dash F15 still got the best sCores since we got here an Nvidia RTX 3070 GPU inside this one while the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i comes with Intel® Iris® Xe graphics and the Acer Swift 3x comes with Intel® Iris® Xe Max Graphics. While the ASUS TUF Dash F15 can run most games without problems.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i and the Acer Swift 3x got a sCore of 1574 and 1839 respectively and that’s what I already expect on these notebooks and since we got more powerful Intel® Iris® Xe Max graphics on the Acer Swift 3x, we can have a better 3D rendering and of course, gaming experience on the notebook.

As for gaming, most of the modern light games would run just fine on Intel® Iris® Xe graphics but if you need more power, you can go for the Acer Swift 3x which will give you more power with its Iris® Xe Max but don’t worry because you can still get the power that you need on the notebook and still have the portability that you need.

Verdict

So you’ve seen the different notebooks for different segments. It’s actually pretty easy to choose. If you’re looking for a notebook that you can use for everyday usage and you also want to use it for your light and casual gaming then you can go for the likes of the Acer Swift 3X that comes with Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 and also an Intel® Iris® Xe Max discrete graphics which is the perfect balance of power and portability.

But if you want something that you can bring anywhere, flexible, and also have a long battery life then you can get the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i with Intel® Core™ i7-1185G7 inside along with Intel® Iris® Xe graphics. It may not have the same power as the Intel® Iris® Xe Max discrete graphics but it still got some power inside that is more than enough for everyday consumers and of course, you can still play with it if you want to.

Lastly, if you’re in the market for a notebook that you can use for heavy photo or video editing and gaming then the ASUS TUF F15 Dash with Intel® Core™ i7-11370H processor along with the Nvidia RTX 3070 GPU inside is the good choice for you. It comes with a powerful processor paired with the latest Nvidia RTX GPU inside and of course, this one comes with a military-grade build and also a pretty cool design.

Here’s our review of the Intel® NUC M15 and why you should get it

I’ve been using the Intel® NUC M15 Laptop for a few weeks now and I can finally share with you my thoughts regarding this one and why I think the Intel® NUC M15 is perfect for those who are planning to start a business or who wants to use the laptop for work. NUC is short for NEXT Unit of Computing. Say it like “luck” or “truck”.

Customizable and premium design

One of the things that I love about the Intel® NUC M15 is the simple, brandless, and premium design of the notebook. There are no brands and complicated quirks on this one because this notebook just comes with a simple metal design which means that if you’re a company then you can add your own branding on this one or if you want to customize the notebook well, you’re free to do so.

For the body, the Intel® NUC M15 comes with an aluminum unibody with a 14.9mm thickness which is just enough for being a portable notebook. The aluminum unibody of the notebook also makes it premium and sturdy compared to other notebooks out there in the market. 

Another thing to love about the notebook is how balanced it is. I can open the notebook with just one finger and the design of the notebook is just refreshing. Below, you can find the two long rubber feet of the notebook and whenever I place the notebook, it’s really fun to use it as it doesn’t easily move and you can easily customize and upgrade your notebook if you want by just opening it. You can upgrade the storage of the notebook but the RAM of the notebook is soldered but this one comes with 4266MHz clock speed.

If you live in a country where Alexa is supported, the Intel® NUC M15 also comes with a light bar that works with Alexa which is a unique feature that you can’t find on most notebooks out there in the market. 

For the ports, the Intel® NUC M15 comes with plenty of ports that you need for work. There’s the HDMI 2.0b so you can connect your monitors or your projectors, 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen.2, and of course, 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports that you can connect for eGPUs and of course, for the charger of the notebook.

Fine touchpad and keyboard

The notebook also features a chiclet-style keyboard and the keyboard that was used for this one was fine for me.  The travel distance was just fine and typing on the keyboard was precise and typing on it was quiet but it was also fine to use. There’s a backlit on the keyboard too so if you want to work in the dark, this would be just fine on the Intel® NUC M15.

The touchpad’s size does come with sufficient size for my usage. It also comes with a glass surface which is why using it and gliding thru it was smooth and navigation was really precise. It also comes with an LED at the upper left corner of the touchpad so you’ll know if the touchpad is turned off.

Great display too!

The Intel® NUC M15 features a 15.6” panel with a Full HD resolution. It’s a 16:9 widescreen panel and in my usage of the notebook, I was pretty happy that I was getting a sharp display in here, and also the colors were pretty good. The brightness was fine and I was able to use the notebook even outside.

There’s an optional variant too in where you can get a touchscreen display on the notebook. 

Long battery life

The Intel® NUC M15 features a 73Wh battery and Intel® promises a long battery life on this notebook and in my usage, I was able to get 11 hours of battery life on normal usage on the Intel® NUC M15 and I was pretty happy that I can get a battery life this long which means that I can work all day without looking for a plug.

Performance

Since we’re talking here about an Intel® notebook, this one comes with an Intel® processor with two variants that are available. It comes in 11th gen Intel® Core™ i5 processor or the Intel® Core™ i7 processor and for our review, we got an engineering unit of the notebook but the performance that we got was pretty good. Check out some of the benchmarks that we got on the notebook:

  • PCMark 10: 4692
  • 3DMark Time Spy: 1749
  • Cinebench R23 Single Core™: 1523
  • Cinebench R23 Multi Core™: 5269

Overall, we were pretty happy with the results that we got on the notebook as this one was pretty powerful enough for most usage in a business setup and if you want, you can still do a little bit of gaming with the notebook if you want to.

In case you’re not familiar with the NUC, the NUC M15 laptop doesn’t come with an operating system and also a storage built-in so you can customize the laptop even more. This is actually a very big advantage to companies and small businesses as they can save more money and even customize the device if they want to. 

So why is it great for Small and Medium Businesses?

The Intel® NUC M15 gives us customizability with its build as you can add your own storage and also an operating system so if you’re a small business or you have a company, you can save more money with it. There’s also the premium and sturdy build on the notebook so you know that the notebook will last really long. Lastly, the performance of this notebook is more than enough for most people thanks to the 11th Generation Intel® Core™ processor inside the Intel® NUC M15 laptop.

Good news, PLDT and Smart subscribers! Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has issued a new order, allowing telco companies to occupy a portion of the government Right of Way.

Through this newly issued Department Order No. 29 (DO 26), PLDT and Smart expect to improve their network maintenance and operations for an enhanced customer experience.

PLDT and Smart also revealed that the issuance of DO 29 can help them fast-track the rollout of their projects and ensure the timely maintenance of fiber infrastructure and cell sites.

Under the DO 29, the ICT Service providers can now “construct and undertake excavations and/or restoration work for ICT Infrastructure Projects within the allowable ROW limits of the national roads, as determined by the concerned District Engineering Office and subject to the guidelines provided in this Order.”

“PLDT and Smart are committed to working with the government in ensuring continuous service and a great experience for our customers as we keep them safe and connected amid the pandemic,” Alfredo S. Panlilio, Smart Communications President and CEO and PLDT Chief Revenue Officer stated.

“This collaboration with the government is part of PLDT and Smart’s initiatives to improve the maintenance and operations of our network facilities and advocate for the improvement of the regulatory environment to boost the country’s digital infrastructure,” Smart VP and Head of Regulatory Affairs Atty. Roy D. Ibay addressed.

“We thank the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for espousing the interest of the telcos and paving the way for the issuance of DO 29,” Atty Aileen Regio, First Vice President and Head of PLDT’s Regulatory and Strategic Affairs shared.

Smart three-peats as PH’s fastest mobile network, Ookla reveals

Ookla — a well-respected internet testing and analysis firm — released its latest report, revealing that Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is still the fastest mobile network in the Philippines.

Smart had the upper hand against its biggest rival, Globe Telecom, as it was able to deliver the fastest Speed Score, and average uploads and download speeds for the third consecutive time since 2018.

This was revealed by Ookla, based on its million consumer-initiated tests performed on Speedtest on LTE-capable devices in the country.

Ookla named Smart as the Speedtest Awards Winner in Q3-Q4 2020 after it dominated the competition with its 49.99 Speed Score versus Globe’s 15.30 score.

Smart also recorded 20.08Mbps average download speeds and 7.42Mbps average upload speeds, compared to its competitor’s 15.25Mbps and 4.11Mbps speeds, respectively.

This latest recognition proved Smart’s commitment to improving the mobile experience of every Filipino.

In fact, its parent company, PLDT, recently revealed that they’re prepared to invest between Php88 billion and Php92 billion in capital expenditures for the expansion of its fixed and wireless networks across the country.

With this effort, Smart was able to fortify its 4G/LTE network across the Philippine Islands and accelerate the rollout of its Smart 5G.

To date, Smart has launched more than 2,300 Smart 5G sites across the country—the most extensive 5G coverage in the Philippines.
