COVID-19 Exposure Logging Update on Android and iOs

0

A COVID-19 Logging has been added to every phone during recent updates.

iPhone Users have had it since iOS 13.5 while Android updated theirs a little later.

Exposure Logging
Exposure Logging

How does it work?

Once the Exposure Notifications are on, random IDs will be generated on your device. In order to prevent tracking, the phone’s random ID changes every 10-20 minutes.

This all happens in the background which shares random IDs via Bluetooth with the phones around you that may have the notifications set on. This allows the phone to record and store IDs from other devices to yours.

If someone reports having COVID-19 and their ID is stored on your phone, your app will notify you of the next steps to take.

If your app learns that you’ve come in contact with someone who reports themself as having COVID-19, the system may share information with the app, including:

  • The day the contact happened.
  • How long the contact lasted.
  • The Bluetooth signal strength of that contact.

Your public health authority app is not allowed to use your phone’s location.

The Exposure Notifications System itself does not use your location or share other users’ identities with the app, Google, or Apple.

Access

In order to access it:

Android Users: Settings > Google > Settings > COVID-19 Exposure Notifications

iPhone Users: Settings > Privacy > Health

COVID-19 Exposure Logging iPhone 2

This is in the beta test so far in the Philippines and the government has been working with 15 software engineers and designers from the University of the Philippines to soon launch an app to the public. We hope to have better tracking that would be able to trace COVID-19 carriers in the Philippines.

realme C11 vs. vivo Y11 vs. Samsung Galaxy A01 Specs Comparison

0

Budget smartphones might be affordable but they’re getting more powerful every year and if you’re looking for a budget smartphone today, the realme C11, vivo Y11, and the Samsung Galaxy A01 are three interesting budget smartphones that won’t break the bank. Now, let’s get down to the specs comparison of these three smartphones.

Processor

Both the Samsung Galaxy A01 and the vivo Y11 are running on Snapdragon 439 processor which is a little bit dated but it is capable of running most applications just fine but the realme C11 has a big advantage as the MediaTek Helio G35 can run more powerful and demanding games at better frames. Also, it’s the latest processor among the two.

Display

For the display, the Samsung Galaxy A01 is on the smaller and handier side with its 5.7-inch HD+ PLS TFT Display while the vivo Y11 got a 6.35-inch HD+ LCD display and the realme C11 got the biggest of them all with a 6.5-inch HD+ IPS display. Having a bigger display these days are essential as we consume more content on mobile smartphones. Aside from that, there’s the IPS panel on realme C11 that can give better colors.

Memory

Among the three, only the vivo Y11 and the realme C11 got a 32GB of internal storage while the Samsung Galaxy A01 got a smaller 16GB of internal storage but only the vivo Y11 got a larger 3GB of RAM. For those who are always into multitasking, the vivo Y11 can handle more apps simultaneously but of course, the processor also matters in this matter.

Camera

All of the cameras of the smartphones pack a 13MP+2MP but when it comes to the front-facing camera, the vivo Y11 got an advantage as the smartphone packs an 8MP selfie camera while the Samsung Galaxy A01 and the realme C11 got a 5MP selfie camera. But of course, those are just the numbers, the image quality is still the important thing about here.

Software

Only the vivo Y11 is still running Android 9 with its FunTouch OS 9.1 while the realme C11 and the Samsung Galaxy A01 are both running on realme UI and One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 respectively.

Battery

One of the biggest advantage of the vivo Y11 and the realme C11 is the battery as both smartphones comes with 5000mAh battery while the Samsung Galaxy A01 only comes with a 3000mAh battery. One of the reasons why the Samsung has a smaller battery is due to the smaller footprint of the device but of course, the 5000mAh battery would still be better as we can still have a long battery life with that one.

Price

Now this is the part in where it gets interesting. The vivo Y11 clearly showed that the smartphone does have a lot of advantages compared to the other two as we got here a bigger RAM on this smartphone along with the better selfie camera but it also comes with the more expensive price of Php6,499.

While the Samsung Galaxy A01 might not excel in most of the specifications and hardware inside, we still got here the One UI that runs on the latest Android 10 and this one is priced at Php5,490 which is a lot cheaper than the vivo Y11

The realme C11 might have the best hardware in some aspects but the MediaTek Helio G35 Octa-Core processor is a big advantage compared to the other two and the larger 6.5-inch display is definitely attractive on the smartphone. The best part? the smartphone comes with a price of Php4,990 which is the most affordable among the three. Yep, despite being the most affordable of them all, the smartphone can compete and even beat some of the hardware aspects of the other two smartphones.
