Huawei Y6s gets a price drop

0

One of the most affordable smartphones in the market right now just got a price drop by Php1,000 and yes, it’s the Huawei Y6s that we’ve reviewed before. It’s a budget smartphone that performs pretty well and above our expectations.

Huawei Y6s Review

Inside the smartphone is a Helio P35 processor along with 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Of course, there’s the 6.09-inch waterdrop display and also the single 13MP camera at the back.

The Huawei Y6s is initially priced at Php6,990 but you can get it now for Php5,990.

Huawei Y9s Review

0

Huawei Y9s is one of the first smartphones to arrive this 2020 from the Chinese company. It’s a smartphone that reminds us of the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 that we’ve reviewed before but we do have here better hardware inside and of course, a better camera. If you want to know more about this smartphone, be sure to check out our review of the Huawei Y9s below:

Huawei Y9s Review: Hardware and design

The Huawei Y9s features a curved glass back that feels premium to the hand and since we’re getting here a breathing crystal colorway, it does remind me of the Huawei P30 Pro that we’ve reviewed before and it looks beautiful on this one. Since we got here a large display on the smartphone, this one has a bigger body than most smartphones.

There are curves at the back and the smartphone might be massive for some people but the smartphone is pretty handy and comfortable to use despite the large body of the smartphone and yes, it was pretty chunky.

The Huawei Y9s is a little bit different from the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 aesthetically as we now have a fingerprint scanner at the side of the smartphone which is also the power button of the smartphone and along with that is the volume rocker.  Unfortunately, there’s no face unlock on this smartphone so you have to rely on the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone.

Below the smartphone is where you can find the 3.5mm headphone jack, the speaker grill, and the USB-C port. Unfortunately, we still don’t have a fast-charging tech on the smartphone. The thing with the Huawei Y9s is despite belonging in the Y-series, the smartphone does have a premium feel to it

Huawei Y9s Review: Display

There’s a large 6.59-inch FullView display on this smartphone a Full HD+ resolution. The display was quite good actually and we were pretty happy with the quality of the display that we’re getting on the smartphone. We have a vivid display with fine viewing angles and contrast on this one is pretty.

There are thin bezels on the smartphone too which is almost non-existent and the chin below the smartphone was thin which is pretty good. Since we got a pop-up camera on this smartphone, we do not have a notch or a hole-punch on the smartphone.

Huawei Y9s Review: Battery

Most of the smartphones that we’ve reviewed from Huawei perform pretty well in the battery segment and the Huawei Y9s performs pretty well in that segment too. We got here a 4000mAh battery and in our PC Mark battery test, the Huawei Y9s have achieved a battery life of 11 hours and 7 minutes which translates to a whole day of usage on the smartphone. Unfortunately, the smartphone doesn’t come with fast-charging.

Huawei Y9s Review: Software

The smartphone is still running on the same UI and OS that is running on other Huawei smartphones as the Huawei Y9s still runs on EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie and of course, it will still come with GPU turbo that can help in gaming.

There are other included apps on the smartphone like an optimizer, ride mode, app gallery and many more and most of them are useful. The UI doesn’t come with app drawer but it is still user-friendly so I don’t really have problems with it.

We also got here a larger 128GB of internal storage that is expandable via MicroSD and then there’s the 4GB of RAM on the smartphone.

Huawei Y9s Review: Performance

Unfortunately, the Huawei Y9s still runs on Kirin 710F processor which is disappointing as this one is already more than a year old already. Yes, there are some improvements but it is now behind than most processors that are available in the market right now. In our benchmarks, we got these scores on the Huawei Y9s.

It might not be the best one out there in the market but the smartphone’s processor can definitely do the basic tasks such as checking your social media accounts at different apps simultaneously and just using the smartphone for basic tasks.

When it comes to gaming, the Huawei Y9s can run some games including PUBG Mobile but you have to understand that you have to set the settings of the game at a lower settings to enjoy these games. Check out the benchmark scores that we got on the smartphone in gaming:

PUBG Mobile – HD, High

Huawei Y9s Review: Camera

The Huawei Y9s feature a 48MP main camera with 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and 2MP depth sensor and they’re able to shoot just fine at decent lighting conditions with enough details that we can expect on an entry-level and mid-range smartphone. The wide-angle shots need more details as expected but it will do just fine at decent lighting conditions.

There’s a 16MP pop-up camera too that is hiding in the smartphone too and just like the other Y-series brothers, the smartphone doesn’t have the best details. It’s a little bit washed out and most of the time, the smartphone can’t get the colors right. Most photos are overexposed too which is a little bit disappointing for me.

If you want to know more about the camera of the smartphone, check out the shots that we took using the smartphone:

Huawei Y9s Review: Verdict

The Huawei Y9s might be a pretty smartphone for everyone thanks to the notch-less fullview display of the smartphone and a clean look at the back but the processor of the smartphone is getting old already and more demanding games in the future might need more power and the Huawei Y9s won’t be ready for that.

Nonetheless, we still got here a good display, good battery, and a triple-lens rear camera of the smartphone and a pop-up camera.

The Huawei Y9s is now available for Php13,990.

ROG Phone 2 Strix Edition 8GB/128GB Launched, Priced at P34,995

0

The ROG Phone 2 has been out for a while, and it is undoubtedly the best phone available for gaming. In our review, we dubbed it the best gaming smartphone because of its refinement over the first ROG Phone. However, as much as gamers liked the ROG phone, it commanded a high price rivaling those of flagship phones. Earlier this month, ASUS teased a cheaper variant of the crowd favorite ROG Phone 2.

MemoXpress and Villman already posted product availability of the ROG Phone II Strix Edition. Priced at Php 34,995, the ROG Phone 2 Strix Edition comes with a free Aero Case and AeroActive Cooler. A downgrade in the memory and storage department from 12GB/512GB to 8GB/128GB significantly lowers the price by Php 15,000. You’re essentially getting the same phone but with a much more affordable price tag thanks to the more practical configuration.

The ROG Phone 2 Strix Edition is very similar to the china-exclusive ROG Phone 2 Tencent Games version. The China-exclusive SKU uses a plastic body to achieve a lower price point. Ofcourse since it’s a China-exclusive variant, the LTE bands used by the phone are optimized for China. The Strix Edition, on the other hand, uses a broader LTE spectrum to maximize telecom compatibility.

One of the smartphones that were unveiled last Unpacked 2020 event is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. It’s the second foldable smartphone that Samsung has announced and it’s one of the best foldable smartphones out there due to the hideaway hinge of the smartphone that prevents dust and also brings a better hinge on the smartphone. The smartphone also introduces an ultra-thin glass which is flexible. Want to know more about the smartphone? Check it in our quick review video below.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is definitely one of the most exciting smartphones out there due to the foldable design and its exciting features. I do love that the smartphone has an optimized UI for its form factor and the smartphone is quite stylish too. The smartphone may not have the latest processor inside, it’s still a quite powerful one.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is now available for pre-order in the Philippines for Php79,990.

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor

Huawei Y6s Review

1

Huawei has recently launched the Huawei Y6s brand new smartphone and it’s made for the entry-level consumers as this one has entry-level hardware inside and also a price that is really enticing to the consumers. It might not be the best smartphone out there but it is definitely affordable and it runs Android so you can run most applications that you want on the smartphone.

Huawei Y6s Review: Design and hardware

The design and the materials used on the Huawei Y6s is what you can expect on an entry-level smartphone. Yes, the smartphone is made up of plastic and it does feel cheap but it doesn’t have a hollow feeling when I’m using it and it doesn’t feel that the smartphone will break easily despite dropping it for a few times.

The footprint of the smartphone isn’t big so it does have a pretty good ergonomics and the smartphone feels comfortable to grip. At the back is where we can see the clean look of the smartphone and it houses the single-lens rear camera and also the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone.

There’s a power button too on the side along with the volume rocker of the smartphone and below is where you can find the micro USB port of the smartphone with the speaker grills and at the top is where you can find the 3.5mm audio port of the smartphone.

Aside from the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone that works pretty fast as expected from most smartphones today, there’s a face unlock too that works well. Basically, you won’t have any problems with unlocking the smartphone as you got a lot of choices.

Huawei Y6s Review: Display

The Huawei Y6s features a 6.09-inch HD+ dewdrop display on the smartphone with a tiny notch at the top to give way for the selfie camera of the smartphone. There’s a 87% screen-to-body ratio on the smartphone which looks well especially for an entry-level smartphone.

The Huawei Y6s do have decent colors on the display but bezels on the sides of the smartphone are noticeable but not surprising since this one is on the budget segment. The brightness of the display is just fine and it’s useable under direct sunlight. The viewing angles of the display of the smartphone is just fine too but since this is just at HD+, don’t expect a really sharp display on this smartphone

Huawei Y6s Review: Battery Life

The battery of the Huawei Y6s is already decent for its size. There’s a 3020mAh battery inside and it can last up to 9 hours and 5 minutes in PCMark. The smartphone doesn’t come with fast charging and it also comes with a micro USB charging but nonetheless, the battery will do just fine.

Huawei Y6s Review: Software

The smartphone is still running on Android 9 Pie based on EMUI 9.1. Well, it’s not the latest one that we’ve seen on a Huawei smartphone but it isn’t that bad. If you’re worried about Google Play, well, I’m happy to tell you that the Huawei Y6s still does come with those applications that you need for the smartphone and yes, it’s full-featured so you don’t have to worry about it.

Huawei Y6s Review: Performance

It might be an entry-level smartphone but it does perform better than I expected for an affordable smartphone. Inside the Huawei Y6s is an Helio P35 processor which is a decent one and it can run most games and applications without a problem. This might be an affordable and entry-level Android smartphone but it does perform well and better than I expected.

In our benchmark, the Huawei Y6s got a fine benchmarks scores in Antutu and other benchmarking tools as seen below:

When it comes to gaming, the Huawei Y6s still doesn’t disappoint as we can play most modern games however, you may have to turn down the settings of most games to enjoy it and in some games, you might not be able to set it at a higher settings and you’re limited with the settings that you’re allowed to choose. Check out the Gamebench scores that we got on the smartphone.

To know more about GameBench, check out www.gamebench.net.

Overall, we can see that the smartphone can run most games but again, you may have to tone down the settings to get an enjoyable framerate.

Huawei Y6s Review: Camera

The Huawei Y6s only features a single rear camera which is a 13MP rear camera and then there’s the 8MP front-facing camera. As expected, the smartphone was doing just fine for an entry-level smartphone but don’t expect too much from it as it can’t even match for mid-range smartphones at around Php10,000. Check out the shots that I took using the Huawei Y6s:

Huawei Y6s Review: Verdict

The Huawei Y6s is a fine entry-level Android smartphone for 2020 but we do have a lot of competition going on in its price range. It might not be the most powerful out there in its price range but the single rear camera of the smartphone performed well and the battery did really fine on the smartphone

The Huawei Y6s is now available for Php6,999.

0

One of the most innovative smartphones to date is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip thanks to the foldable display of the smartphone and also some of the new technology on the smartphone that includes an Ultra Thin Display or UTG but of course, the smartphone is also fashionable too thanks to its glass design and also its clamshell form factor. Upcoming TCL Smartphone Leaked, Shows Sliding Feature

0

TCL, one of the most popular TV & home appliance brand, was supposed to have its presence in Mobile World Congress 2020 before it got canceled. TCL was supposed to showcase a new smartphone concept featuring a sliding screen. It’s something that could’ve immediately overshadowed Samsung and Motorola’s folding phones.

TCL Sliding Phone

Images of TCL’s concept sliding phone surfaced. Judging from the leaked images, TCL is using some proprietary mechanism to hide and extend the extra display.

Renders clearly show the display extends to the right but doesn’t explain how does it correctly fold and hide the rest of the screen. TCL’s sliding phone appears to be using a quad-camera setup, which is commonly found on flagships. The camera setup is indeed a step-up compared to foldable devices from Samsung, which only sports two cameras.

It’s not to say that this type of technology hasn’t been previously achieved. LG has been pushing its rollable OLED TVs in the market for quite a while. What’s revolutionary about TCL’s implementation is shrinking the from an 80-inch to your typical 6.7″ smartphone size. The technology would also solve the crease problem that foldable phones have.

Despite issues that surround foldable smartphones, especially with the Galaxy Z Flip’s “glass,” TCL is one step ahead in the industry with this new smartphone concept. Let’s hope that it’ll come to the market sooner than later.

In the meantime, you can check out our first impressions of the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy S20 series.
