ASUS ROG GL753VE Review

0

I’ve been using the ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE for a while now and yes, it’s a little too big but I’m really enjoying using this one as this one is far more powerful than my Macbook Pro and it has a larger screen. The ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE is a gaming laptop that runs the latest Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 8GB of RAM, and a Nvidia GTX 1050Ti GPU. This isn’t one of the best laptops that ASUS can offer but this laptop can surely feed your gaming needs. Check out our review of the gaming laptop below.

It’s lot less bulky than I expected

Unlike the ASUS ROG laptops that we’ve reviewed before, the ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE has a design that is a bit different as the ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE now packs an RGB keyboard and also an orange hue but still, this gaming laptop still resembles some identity from its other ASUS ROG notebooks.

As a 17-gaming notebook, the ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE is a little less bulky than I expected. Yes, it’s bigger and heavier than most laptops but it’s a 17-inch gaming laptop that I can actually lift with my one hand (But I won’t recommend doing that) because the laptop only weighs 2.8kg. Again, that feel weighs less than I expected but still, the laptop is still heavy. Also, the laptop only fits in my ASUS ROG bag which is by the way, really big.

The laptop is made up of plastic with a brushed metal look and as expected, there’s a little bit of hollow feeling when pressing into the body of the laptop because again, it’s made up of plastic. Of course, it is also combined with the ASUS ROG logo that lights up along with the two lines and unfortunately, it doesn’t have the RGB lighting. The keyboard lighting, however, can be controlled using the ROG Aura Core which we will talk about later.

The laptop doesn’t lack in ports as it has everything that you wanted on a laptop. It packs a LAN Port, HDMI, miniDisplay port, 3x USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0, USB Type C, 3.5mm audio jack, and an optical drive. Of course, when it comes to connectivity, the laptop comes with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Another thing that you might not like about the laptop is its speaker. It didn’t do much well. Yes, it’s crisp and clear however It wasn’t loud as I expected just like the other ASUS ROG laptops

The Display

The ASUS ROG GL753VE got a 17-inch display and it packs a full HD resolution. The color and the viewing angles of the notebook is just fine and you won’t really have any problems with it whether you are planning to get this laptop for some casual editing on Photoshop, video editing, and gaming, however, The ASUS ROG GL753VE lacks a G-Sync display on this one so yeah, you might want to get an external monitor if you want to experience G-Sync.

A great keyboard and just a fine trackpad

The ASUS ROG GL753VE comes with a full sized keyboard with a numpad. Actually, using the keyboard was great and it’s really comfortable to type on whether you’re typing a long document or playing Battlefield 1. It’s just so comfortable to use. The keyboard lighting can be adjusted and actually, you can control the lighting and its effects on the ROG Aura Core app on the laptop.

The trackpad of the laptop is large enough to navigate and use for typical web browsing however it wasn’t as responsive as I expected and there’s a slight delay when using it. However, in my day to day use, it wasn’t really a big deal to me and it works just fine. Oh and in case you didn’t like the trackpad too, don’t worry because the ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE comes an ASUS ROG Sica Gaming Mouse

The Performance

Inside the ASUS ROG GL753VE is powered by an Intel Core i7-7700HQ Processor, 8GB of RAM, and then there’s the Nvidia GTX 1050Ti GPU. The laptop is definitely made for gaming and it can run the latest games without problems. In our test, we’re definitely happy with it as the laptop performed well with all the games that we tried on it. Here are the framerates that I got with the ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE.

The ASUS ROG GL753VE feels warm when gaming but not really that hot that it gets to the point that the laptop will overheat. Actually, the laptop has a pretty good thermal whether you use the laptop for gaming or for rendering. Yes, the laptops are warm but it was not really that hot for a laptop.

Also, to monitor the status and temperature of your laptop, the ASUS ROG Gaming Center lets you control the fans and other settings of the laptop. Aside from that, you could also launch the ASUS ROG Aura Core in where you can control the the RGB backlit keyboard of the ASUS ROG GL753VE.

Short Battery Life

The battery life of the ASUS ROG GL753VE is something that you would not like on this laptop. Yes, it’s a gaming laptop however it is still expected to have at least a 5 hours of battery on normal and light usage. However, we only get 3 1/2 to 4 hours of battery life on normal tasks such as web browsing and listening to Spotify however, the battery of the laptop comes short to 2-3 hours when playing games. So yeah, it’s recommended to bring a charger with you when you’re out the whole day.

Verdict

The ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE is a gaming notebook that is powerful enough for gaming, productivity, or rendering. It might not be the most powerful one but the Intel Core i7 processor inside it and also the Nvidia GTX 1050Ti which is more than enough for most people.

The design of the laptop wasn’t disappointing despite having a plastic build. There’s the cool RGB keyboard, just a fine display, however, the battery life of the laptop is a little bit short.

Nonetheless, the ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE is still a good laptop, however, it’s a little bit pricey but of course, that’s expected on a gaming laptop. The ASUS ROG Strix GL753VE is now available for P79,995

3 things we learn from ASUS CEO Jerry Shen at Computex 2017

0

Last May, we went to Taiwan again for Computex. It’s our 2nd time to go to Computex and we were amazed with all the things that we saw in Taipei. And of course, if you’ve followed me here in my blog and YouTube Channel, you’ve probably seen my videos and articles about the new products that were introduced in Computex. During the event, we also got a chance to interview the CEO of ASUS, Mr. Jerry Shen. Here are the things that we learn in our interview with Mr. Jerry Shen.

ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom is doing very well in many markets

The ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom was a great smartphone that’s why I was not surprised that this smartphone was doing well in some markets. It might not be the best when it comes to performance but the ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom sure has a good camera and with its latest update, the ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom now comes with portrait mode that works similarly to the one on the iPhone 7 Plus. Also, ASUS has recently updated the phone to Android 7.1.1.

No new Transformer Series at Computex

One of the reaons why we didn’t saw a new ASUS Transformer 2-in-1 notebooks is that ASUS is still happy with the ASUS Transformer 3 series. This 2-in-1 tablets are powered by 7th-generation Intel Core Series which means that the tablet is still updated when it comes to hardware

ASUS is ready for IoT, Smart Home, & Smart Cities

Internet of Things is the future. Everything that we have right now including our appliances will be connected to the internet in the future and ASUS is ready for that. Right now they have products for IoT like the ASUS Tinker Board and they already have products for Smart Home including ZenBo, that amazing cute little robot from the company. 2 years ago ASUS built a team for Smart Cities and currently, they’re working on different things right now however, ASUS did not disclose what were they.

Those were just some of the things that we learned in our interview. The future is exciting for ASUS. We haven’t seen the ASUS Zenfone 4 last Computex so expect that this smartphone will arrive soon. We don’t have any clues when or where it will be launch but expect their new Zenfone lineup this year.

VIVO unveils Under Display Fingerprint Scanning Solution

0

Looks like we’ll be ditching the fingerprint scanner on the back or on the home button of the smartphones as Vivo has unveiled their newest technology in MWC Shanghai. Their newest technology allows them to have a fingerprint scanner under the display of the smartphone.

So yes, the fingerprint scanner won’t be visible anymore as the hardware responsible for that is already under the display of the smartphone.

Vivo’s new under display fingerprint scanner solution is based on Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors and it can penetrate an OLED display that is 1.2mm thick. And of course, this technology will still allow waterproofing.

There’s still no product announced that will be having this feature from Vivo but it’s really refreshing to see that a new and cool technology like this from a Chinese brand.

ASUS Sagaris GK1100 Mechanical Keyboard Review

1

I love mechanical keyboards but most of them sport a gaming or an edgy design or a design that is so different from the classic keyboards. Am I alone? Probably not. And today, we will review the ASUS Sagaris GK1100 Mechanical keyboard. The one that I got has the blue switches which is, by the way, my favorite switches. So what do I think about it? Check out my review of the ASUS Sagaris GK1100 below.

First things first. The ASUS Sagaris GK1100 Keyboard doesn’t have a fancy box but inside, it has some surprises. There’s the keycap puller which we can find on every mechanical keyboard and then there are the extra keycaps. Well, not all of them are included but these keycaps are the ones that are mostly used for gaming and instead of the classic font look on the keyboard, these extra keycaps have a different look which is really meant for gaming.

The ASUS Sagaris GK1100 comes with a full-size layout keyboard with a classic design. There’s a Cherry MX Blue mechanical switch too which is my favorite. It’s best for typing, however, I cannot say the same for gaming but still, it will work really fine for that. The Cherry MX Blue needs a 60g of actuation force and it has a lifespan of 50 million keystrokes per key. It works fine and tactile feel was really good however you’ll have to put some more force on this one compared to other switches but overall, the keyboard was good. The ASUS Sagaris GK1100 also have an NKRO settings whiavoidids ghosting so you can type more clearly.

One of the main selling points of this keyboard is that the keys has an RGB-LED backlit and as expected, there are 7 lighting modes on this keyboard which are All LED On, Spiral Mode, Customization Mode, Color Rotation Mode, Fading Out Mode, Starry Sky Mode, and Laser Moder. Of course, you could add customization on the lights using their app.

Here comes my favorite part. The ASUS Sagaris GK1100 sports a black aluminum plate which makes the mechanical keyboard a bit heavy and also really solid. And because of its build, the ASUS Sagaris GK1100 feels premium. And because the keyboard is a bit heavy, you might not want to bring this keyboard everywhere you go. But c’mon guys, who brings their mechanical keyboards on their bag.

The ASUS Sagaris GK1100 has 4 rubber feet pads below and it’s already decent enough to avoid accidental movements of the keyboard (Especially when you’re raging like me). There’s also a leg which is surprisingly very sturdy and solid and it lets you tilt and adjust the height of the keyboard.

The mechanical keyboard also features a braided cord along with two USB ports. I know, it’s weird but there are two USB just in case one is not enough to power up your keyboard.

The ASUS Sagaris GK1100 might have a RGB-LED backlit keys however you cannot sync the keyboard with ASUS Aura-enabled products. However, the ASUS Sagaris GK1100 comes with an app that lets you customize the colors and modes of the RGB. Unfortunately, there’s no wave effect on the RGB which is by the way, my favorite.

The app lets you change the NKRO setting, assign key settings, assign a profile, change the lighting, and even add some macros. And yes, the app is really user friendly and even if you’re still a newbie in this, you’ll not have a hard time playing with the app.

Verdict

The ASUS Sagaris GK1100 is one of my favorite keyboards. Why? Because not only that this one has a sturdy and solid design and a decent Cherry MX Blue Switches which is best for typing and blogging as this one has the loudest clicky design but because that this one has a classic feel and look which makes the keyboard look cleaner, more premium, and has less gaming looks and feel. Overall, the ASUS Sagaris GK1100 is a decent keyboard with a good feel, solid build, and a really good performance.
