ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 experience at Fort Santiago

0

Last week, ASUS Philippines gave us a chance to try out the camera of the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 at Intramuros which is a special event that was pick up from the success of the 100 Days of Zen campaign of ASUS. This event was called #OneDayOfZen and we use the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0’s 8-Megapixel Rear Camera with Laser Autofocus the whole day to capture images at the historical site of Intramuros.

One thing that I really noticed with the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 aside from the responsive and neat software is its camera. The ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 got a laser autofocus with it and no, the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 can’t shoot lasers just like the Stormtroopers in Star Wars. The laser is meant for fast autofocus and veteran photographers Jay Tablante and Roy Macam agree with that.

And to attest that, ASUS Philippines invited us to Fort Santiago to test out its camera for a photography challenge. The photo categories for the contest include Best Selfie, Best Indoor Shot, and Best outdoor shot. Since I mostly want to check out the views and the historical sites at Fort Santiago, I focused on outdoor shots. Here are my some of my shots that I took using the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0

 P_20151121_151323_HDR P_20151121_143328 P_20151121_145521

The ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser is now available and it comes in two sizes and it starts at P7,295 for the 5-inch variant while the bigger Zenfone 2 Laser with 5.5-inch variant is priced at P7,995.

LG V10 launched!, Here’s our hands-on

0

The LG V10 was recently launched in the country and it is the newest flagship smartphone of the company. Just like the LG G4, the company is proud that the LG V10 packs a big punch when it comes to cameras but not only that, the all-new LG V10 now sports a different design and materials in its body.

DSC01742

First of all, the display is gorgeous. It might not be the best in the market, but it really does look gorgeous. The display is so large too that it fits for gaming and for normal phone usage.  Compared to Super AMOLED, this one has a more natural and bright colors, and it’s probably one of the things why I like this smartphone.

One of its best feature is the second screen. When I first heard about the second screen of the LG V10, I thought it was just a gimmick but when I get to try out the LG V10, the second screen was really useful because not only this second screen shows your notifications but it also acts a shortcut for your apps

Before, LG used the leather back on their LG G4 but this time, they opt for a textured rubber-like back. And I didn’t expect that the V10’s feel would be that good. The sides are also made up of the metal used in wristwatches which made the LG V10 really premium. The software of LG looks really good. It got the flat icons and the software that was seen before on LG devices and it is still full of bloatwares.

DSC01746

When it comes to the camera, which is one of its main features, the LG V10’s camera settings can kick other’s smartphone butt. It is so complex that you could anything with it which is a photographers dream. Not only that, the LG V10 also supports manual video mode which lets you adjust the different settings while recording a video.

I can’t say much about the LG V10 but all I know that this smartphone is really good. The smartphone feels very premium to hold and it has one of the best camera on a smartphone out there. This is also the only smartphone that supports manual video and it’s a feature that every vlogger would love to have.

If you want the LG V10, it will be available for P37,990 and you know the best part about it? LG will be giving away a FREE 200GB memory card valued at P11,000 starting yesterday up to November 29, 2015

Samsung Galaxy J5 Review

0

Did you know that one of the popular Samsung Galaxy line is the Samsung Galaxy J series? Yes, they’re the mid-range smartphones of Samsung and they did a pretty good job on this one. These smartphones may not pack the latest Exynos processors but they have some of the goodies that you can find from Samsung including their own software and the Super AMOLED display. Check out my review to know more about the Samsung Galaxy J5.

Samsung Galaxy J5 6

Design and Hardware

The first time you laid your eyes on it, it is unmistakably a Samsung smartphone. The design is very familiar and it hasn’t been changed for years. But since this smartphone is an affordable mid-ranger, the smartphone is packed in a solid plastic body. But compared to the flagship smartphones of Samsung, this one doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor and it has a thinner home button and there’s a front facing flash too for selfies.

Samsung Galaxy J5 5

Samsung Galaxy J5 11

The smartphone is not thick and it is not also thin but it is very comfortable to hold although I wished that Samsung could also put in some premium materials even at their affordable range of Galaxy smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy J5 4

There’s the Micro USB port and the 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom of the smartphone while the insides of the smartphone supports Dual SIM and MicroSD card along with the 2600mAh battery which was able to last up to a day or a day and a half on my usage.

Actually, the back of the Samsung Galaxy J5 Duos reminds me of my first Samsung smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S3 although this one feels more solid and less cheap looking.

The Samsung Galaxy J5 Duos also support OTG if you think that the 8GB Internal storage and the MicroSD card slot is not enough for you. Another thing to like in this smartphone is it’s finally boasting an LTE antenna inside.

Display

Samsung Galaxy J5 3

The smartphone got a 5-inch HD display and surprisingly, it’s a Super AMOLED display despite its category as an affordable smartphone. And just like the other Samsung devices with Super AMOLED Display, the Samsung Galaxy J5 Duos doesn’t fail to impress. Its color are vivid and the display is very bright.

Samsung Galaxy J5 2

There’s also a feature in the Samsung Galaxy J5 in where you can set the display for outdoors and it lets you have a very bright and overexpose display which lets you see the display clearly even at direct sunlight.

Software and Performance

The Samsung Galaxy J5 might have the similar UI of the Samsung Galaxy S6 but the processing power inside it is different that’s why you cannot experience the same speeds of the Samsung Galaxy S6. Of course, you’ll have the Galaxy apps on the Samsung Galaxy J5 in where you can download exclusive Samsung apps for the Galaxy J5

Samsung Galaxy J5 10

Inside the Samsung Galaxy J5, you’ll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor which gives a modest gaming performance and also LTE compared to its predecessor. There’s a decent 1.5GB of RAM too in case you need to do multitasking. The Snapdragon 410 might not do well compared to its bigger brothers such as the Snapdragon 615 and Snapdragon 801 but it can still play the latest and demanding games such as Ashphalt 8 and NBA 2k16.

Samsung Galaxy J5 9

However, in NBA 2k16, I wasn’t able to maxed out its settings and I was only to play it in lowest settings and it wasn’t that smooth but it’s playable. On most apps, I really didn’t had too much problems and it was good despite that there are a lot of apps that are open.

Camera

 Samsung Galaxy J5 7

There’s a 13 Megapixel Rear camera on the Samsung Galaxy J5 along with the 5 Megapixel Front Camera and one thing that I like with the Galaxy J5 is its camera. The front camera is not just a wide angle camera which is really great for selfies but it also got a front facing LED Flash which is really helpful when taking selfies at dark environments.

Regarding the rear camera, you may check out some of the photos that I took using the smartphone:

20151006_180250 20151006_180342 20151006_180426

Verdict

 Samsung Galaxy J5 12

The Samsung Galaxy J5 is a solid smartphone. It might not be as much as powerful as the other smartphones with better SoCs but this smartphone can do its job well. If you’re looking for a midrange smartphone, this is a good one but the TouchWiz UI is aging and its processing power cannot handle the latest games. But hey, this smartphone is still good.
