Neo Launches its Gaming Laptops for Pinoy Gamers

0

Neo just announced their newest gaming laptops. Yes, they launched not just one but 4 gaming laptops.  They have different screen sizes and of course different prices. These Windows 8 gaming laptops ranges from 11.6″-15.6″ and the cheapest of them all will only cost you P25,999. Not bad if you ask me. But of course, the specification of that laptop is pretty much lower than the high end one. Why don’t you check out these gaming laptops after the break. Oh and let’s start with the most affordable gaming laptop from Neo.

Neo Elan LD1GL

I don’t know what does the LD1GL stands for (hehe!) but the Neo Elan LD1GL is the most affordable gaming laptop that was launch yesterday. The Neo Elan LD1GL1 packs a 14″ display, an Intel Core i3-3110M 2.4 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM and the GPU is NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M with 2 GB DDR3 VRAM. All of that for P25,999. Oh by the way, it is loaded with Linux so you might just want to use your old Windows 7 or your Windows 8 CD. So if you don’t want to spare too much money for a gaming laptop then this will be a good choice for you. Here’s the specification of the laptop:

Neo Elan LD2KW

If you want more horsepower and you have the money to spare for that then better choose the Neo Elan LD2KW. This one got a much powerful Quad-Core Intel® Core i7-3630QM processor which is powerful enough for your gaming needs. I believe that this processor is much powerful than most of our desktops at home. It is also powered by an NVIDIA GPU, the NVIDIA GeForce® GT 640M. The display is 15.6″ but this one only has a resolution of 1366×768. Yeah, pretty small if you ask me. Neo Elan LD5HW

This laptop is my personal favorite. It is lightweight and it only has a screen size of 11.6″ but it still sports a specification that can pop your eye out. Yep, the Neo Elan LD5HW is powered by an Intel® Core i5-3230M processor, NVIDIA GeForce® GT 650M and an 8 GB of RAM. 11.6″ is not really that small for me. Well, if you are a gamer that loves to have a lightweight laptop but still able to play games at high settings then this is the laptop for you. The Neo Elan LD5HW is available in two variants – the one loaded with Windows and the other one loaded with Linux. The prices of those are P37,999 and P34,999 respectively. Neo Elan LD7KW

This is the laptop the best gaming laptop that Neo has to offer for us. The Neo Elan LD7KW features a very powerful hardware and it also packs some features that you’ll surely love. This beast is powered by a Quad-Core Intel® Core i7-3630QM along with NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 670MX and the 8 GB RAM. That GPU is one of the most powerful GPU to date. The guys from Neo told us that it can play Crysis 3, Skyrim and Starcraft without experiencing problems. If you’re still not happy with that then feast on your eyes at the display because it’s a 15.6″ Full HD display. Photo and video editors might love the high resolution display.
The features doesn’t stop there because the Neo Elan LD7KW features a illuminated Multi-Colored Backlight with special WASD keys. Yeah, you could customize the colors of the Backlight. And lastly, to have an amazing audio experience on the laptop, Neo built the laptop with Onkyo Speaker System inside. Yeah, that’ll give you a high definition audio. Neo also told us that this laptop could reach up to 5 hours of gaming on battery. Not bad. Well I hope we could have a review unit to test it ourselves. If you want to have this one then get ready to shell out P67,999 or P70,999 for Linux and Windows inside respectively. Well at least, this laptop is still cheaper than its counterpart made by Alienware. Here’s the specification of the Neo Elan LD7KW:

Iron Man 3 the official game will be available on April 25 for iOS and Android

    0

We love Tony Stark not just because he has the attitude, money and the girls but also because of his Mark XLVII Iron Man armor that he used in the movie along with the other armors that he created. Now, you have the chance to be Tony Stark! Too bad, it will only be on your phone and not in real life. Our favorite game developer, Gameloft is developing the official game for the Iron Man 3 movie. The game will be available on iOS and Android on April 25 which is a day after the showing of the Iron Man 3 premier here in the Philippines. The Iron Man 3 game on iOS and Android is an endless runner just like Temple Run 2 but this game has some twist. Yep, you need to destroy some enemies while running on the game. I really don’t know how this game works but you can check out the trailer after the break.

Not quite bad for a phone with a SRP of P6,499. You can even get the Cherry Mobile Titan for P5,999 on some stores. The Cherry Mobile Titan Jelly Bean update is not yet available, they’ll start updating your Cherry Mobile Titan on service centers starting April 15. Start spreading the word Titan users!

How to play Ragnarok Online on Android using Ragnarok: AndRO emulator

    3
Update: How to play Ragnarok Online Mobile
To play Ragnarok Online Mobile that is already available in China, you have to download TapTap app at this link: https://www.taptap.com/mobile then you need to install the TapTap application on your smartphone. After installing, download the Ragnarok Online Mobile here: https://www.taptap.com/app/7133

First of all, I want to tell you guys that this is not a hoax. Yes, you can play a full damn game of Ragnarok Online on your Android device. Unfortunately, the Philippine server is not yet available in the app. But who cares! At least, you can play a full Ragnarok Online in it. Like what I’ve said earlier there’s no Philippine Ragnarok Online. It won’t work on the app but there are three servers that will work on Ragnarok: AndRO. These are iRO (Chaos server only), Ragnarok Deep and Ragnarok: MOTR. I’m not sure if you can play in iRO while Ragnarok: MOTR is for the Russians, I think. So I’m only down with Ragnarok Deep. Want to know how to play Ragnarok Online on Android? Check it out after the break.

I’m not sure what are the requirements of Ragnarok: AndRO but I’m pretty sure that your device must be running at least Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. I’m playing Ragnarok: AndRO on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and I didn’t have enough problems with its graphics and compatibility except the lag. The lag was horrible. I’m not sure if it’s because of my internet or the server really sucks. Here’s how you can play Ragnarok Online on your Android phone:

    1. Download Andro.apk from Google play here – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roworkshop.andro and install it on your Android device.
    2. Download iRO client or Ragnarok Deep client. (Depending on which server you choose)
    3. Install the client on your PC.
    4. Copy the folder of the Ragnarok Online Client folder and paste it to your Android device in this directory “/sdcard/ragnarok” (If you are not comfortable with that, You can change the directory in the app).
    5. Open AndRO on your device and choose the server that you want. Voila! You can play Ragnarok Online on your Android device.
I’m not sure if this thing works on all of your Android devices. I haven’t tried this one on a much slower device. Leave your comments about your experience on the comments section below!

Nokia Lumia 510 Review: The Windows Phone for the Budget-Conscious

    0

In our country, not all people could afford a good smartphone. Actually, there are a lot of Android out there but there are only a few affordable Windows Phones out there in the market. This is probably the most affordable Windows Phone in the market, the Nokia Lumia 510.  Although Windows Phone 8 is already out in the market, Nokia stayed on the Windows Phone 7.8 for the Nokia Lumia 510 to make it more affordable. So how did the Nokia Lumia 510 fared in Jam’s dangerous hands? Check out the review after the break

    Hardware

I reviewed a lot of Nokia devices before and I always write in my review that Nokia mostly have a decent and solid body. On the front, you got the 4-inch WVGA display along and a rubbery finish back cover. The phone feels affordable not cheap. Yeah, there’s a big difference between that. I’m not really a fan of rubbery feel back because it can still attract smudges but the rubber back certainly feels better than the plastic back of the Samsung Galaxy S3. But of course, that’s my view. Some people might feel that the plastic back is better than this. One of the things that I like in this phone is the curvy profile. It made the phone easy to hold and made it sleeker.

The 4 inch display isn’t one of its main strengths. The display might be big for its price but the colors wasn’t that vivid but you won’t notice that on the Nokia Lumia 510 since you’ll mostly see a plain colored live tiles. You’ll only notice that when you’re viewing pictures.  But hey, at least the 4-inch display is WVGA and it is not really that disappointing. 4-inch displays are like the minimum these days.

The Nokia Lumia 510 is only juiced with a 1300mAh. That’s quite small for a 4” device. The Nokia Lumia 510 can only last up to 18 hours on my average use.  So if you’re planning to get this, just be sure to bring your own power bank, extra battery, charger or whatever device that can charge your phone because I’m pretty sure that it will ran out of juice if you’re a heavy user.

It’s not a music device. The speaker isn’t the best either. I think the audio quality has an average quality. Yes, it’s not a music-centric phone but I liked it. Too bad if you’re planning to add a lot of media files on the phone, the 4 GB storage would not suffice your hunger for that. 4 GB is way too small. And no, there’s no Micro SD Card slot for you guys. The phone will require you a Micro-Sim. It’s not much of a hassle these days. Most smartphones require you a Micro-Sim already.

    Camera

Compared to other Nokia Lumia phones, this one has a mediocre camera. It isn’t the worst camera that I’ve tried. I already expect that quality when I first saw the phone. It doesn’t have a LED camera so you’ll really have a problem when you’re in a low light environment. I took a lot of shots and I notice that the images are bit cooler and the noise are really noticeable even at an environment with a decent light. The Nokia Lumia 510 also doesn’t have front camera so don’t expect you can make a video call thru Skype or Tango. I’m not even sure if the Skype on WP 7.8 can handle video calls.  Anyway here are some of the sample shots that I took using the Nokia Lumia 510:

The Nokia Lumia 510 can record a video at VGA resolution only. Most mid-range and even some low-end smartphones could now record video at HD resolution. Anyway, here’s the video that I took using the Nokia Lumia 510. I could really notice the pink spot in the middle but there’s no frame drops, which is good. When recording, I notice that the camera had a hard time refocusing. Here is the video:

    Software and Performance

Nokia Lumia 510 running Windows Phone 7.8

The Nokia Lumia 510 is running on Windows Phone 7.5 when I got it. I just realize that I could update the phone after a few weeks. Yes, you could update the Nokia Lumia 510 to the latest version of Windows Phone 7.8. Too bad you can’t run Windows Phone 8 on this one and the Windows Phone 7.5 doesn’t have Temple Run which was just release recently. Actually there are only a few changes that I notice from it aside from the resizable live tiles.

The Nokia Lumia 510 is powered only by a Qualcomm 800 MHz Single Core processor but it still manage to have a smooth and fluid UI and transition just like the other Windows Phone. The built-in Windows Phone 8 apps are fast and it loads without a hitch. I was just disappointed when I tried some apps like the official Twitter app for Windows Phone, it took some time before it loads. Well not all apps are like that but it is really annoying to have that on some apps.

And just like the Nokia Lumia 610, not all apps would work on the device. The phone only has 256 MB of RAM but it is already capable enough for browsing the Internet using the Internet explorer without slowdowns.  Don’t expect a lot of 3D games to work on this device. But of course, you could check out Xbox extras to edit your avatar. The lack of apps on the Windows Phone Store plus the small amount of RAM made the phone harder to look for apps and decent games. But of course, the Nokia apps that you need like the Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive are preinstalled in the phone.

    Verdict

So again, the Nokia Lumia 510 is the most affordable Windows Phone. Don’t expect  a lot from it. There are only a few Windows Phone out there with a price near to this. If you want a Windows phone but you don’t have the moolah then better get this but don’t expect too much from this. This might have a single core processor but this one has faster transitions that low-end to mid-range Androids. That makes me wonder why some Androids are so slow even at dual-core processors while the Windows Phone can have fast transitions and UI even at Single core.

The Nokia Lumia 510 is now available at Nokia stores for P6,990.

Disclaimer: The Nokia Lumia 510 was lend to me by Nokia Philippines

Facebook Home: Homescreen replacement for your Android phone

    0

Are you a social animal and you always want to be connected and updated on latest happening on Facebook? No worries because the Facebook home is here to replace your boring Android launcher. You don’t need to root, flash or whatever for Facebook home. It’s like an app but brings you a lot bigger experience. Zuck put all the Facebook experience and needs deep inside your phone thru Facebook Home. How? By having the Facebook home three different main features that aims to always get you connected with the latest updates on Facebook. These three different features of Facebook home are Cover feed, Chat heads and notifications

    Cover feed

When you turn on your phone, you already see the cover feed. It’s like the lock screen. But with more Facebook in it. It shows you the latest happenings shared by your friends on Facebook. I think it’s a cool feature because some people want to check the latest news on Facebook by not opening the Facebook app. It’s like peeking on what’s new on your Facebook.

    Chat heads

If you’re like me who is always talking to friends on Facebook then this is the feature that you might like. So when you’re using other apps like Instagram and then a friend sends you a message on Facebook a chat head suddenly appears on the screen. If those chat heads are blocking your app, you can move it. And yes, you can reply to the sender without switching apps.

    Notifications

Of course this is the first thing that we always check on Facebook, out notifications. Aside from showing the latest feeds on Facebook, the Cover feed also shows you the different notifications from Facebook and other apps. And just like the Android notifications, it’s a tap away to check it and just a swipe away to hide it.

Facebook home will be available to these following devices on April 12 at Google Play:

    • HTC First
    • HTC One (Future)
    • HTC One X
    • HTC One X+
    • Samsung GALAXY S III
    • Samsung GALAXY S4 (Future)
    • Samsung GALAXY Note II
If you want a phone dedicated for Facebook home then get the HTC First. Too bad, there’s no release date yet for the Philippine market. The supported devices is expected to increase soon and Facebook also announced that they will support tablets soon.

HTC First leaked: The Facebook phone?

    0

Ahhh. The long rumoured Facebook Phone has finally come, the phone that every Facebook addicts have been waiting for. The HTC First. The phone is expected to be announce on the 4th of April in the United States but our friends at @evleaks already got a leaked photo of the upcoming Facebook phone. The leaked photo only reveals the front of the upcoming device with a 3 buttons which doesn’t look like Android at all (But this phone runs on Android!). It is expected to run on a modified Android 4.1.2 with HTC sense and with a heavy Facebook centric integration. The rumored specifications is a Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor, 4.3 inch display with 720p resolution, 1 GB of RAM and a 5 Megapixel Camera. The specifications remind me of the Sony Xperia S. It’s a generation older but I hope that this so-called Facebook phone would be available worldwide and let’s cross our fingers that this phone would have an affordable price.

Sony Xperia ZL Specifications and Price in the Philippines: Sony Xperia Z’s cheaper brother!

    0

Do you want to have a phone with a fast processor and 1080p display? Yeah, the Sony Xperia Z right? But can’t afford one? Well. Too bad for you. But don’t worry there’s an alternative for that. And yes, it is Sony and it still has a Z on it. Since this one is cheaper than the flagship, there are things that you will miss from the Sony Xperia Z. Like the IP55 and IP57 certification. That’s the water proof and dust proof certification. There are a bit of design changes too. The back of the Sony Xperia ZL isn’t made up of glass. The Sony Xperia ZL sports a plastic back and the Xperia ZL is a bit thicker than the Sony Xperia Z. Oh and the placement of the front facing camera is a bit awkward just like the Nokia N9. It is place below the screen. You still have the 5.0″ display with 1080p resolution. It is not clear whether the device uses a Dragontrail glass or a Gorilla Glass but I’m pretty sure that both glass is pretty strong and solid. There’s the 13 Megapixel Camera and the Quad-Core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon Krait processor inside. Oh and the battery is a bit larger at 2370mAh compared to 2330mAh of the Z. But I doubt you’ll notice the difference. Check out the specifications after the break.

If you don’t have the bucks then I suggest getting this one over the other. Why? Do you really need a waterproof and dustproof smartphone? Do you always text or call when you’re in the shower? I don’t think so. Well, some of you might need those features especially those who are into adventures and sports like swimming. The price is still pretty hefty though.
