R9 Tough and R7 Vigor

Last Thursday I was invited by Cherry Mobile for the Media launch of the two newest shockproof phones that will hit the market – R7 Vigor and R9 Tough. Both phones supports Dual SIM/Dual Standby and can withstand. Shocks against drop impacts as high as 1.5 meters. Along with those phones, Cherry Mobile introduced their newest ambassador, Mr. Robin Padilla

UPDATE: Some Pictures Added

I want to thank the guys at Cherry Mobile for the warm welcome. They’re so friendly and kind.

Robin Padilla Endorses Cherry Mobile Shockproof phones

We all know that Mr. Robin Padilla is the “Bad boy of Philippine Cinema”, He always have a tough role in action movies. Just like the new shockproof phones of Cherry mobile, R7 Vigor and R9 Tough are very tough.

R7 Vigor is a bar type of phone while the R9 Tough is a QWERTY phone. Both phones features a easy-grip rubber casing, Dual Sim/Dual Standby, loudspeaker, camera, FM Radio, Flashlight, MMS/WAP/GPRS, Bluetooth, Java/Built-in games and an expandable storage up to 4GB.

R9 Tough
R7 Vigor

When I got the chance to hold the R7 vigor, the bar type shockproof phone of CM. I felt that the phone is heavy for its size maybe because of the shockproof feature. The phone feels comfortable to hold, thanks to the easy-grip rubber material. The R9 tough, the QWERTY one feels heavy and comfortable to hold too. The things that I notice on both phones are they are really tough…. and tough to open. You’ll need a screwdriver to open those back cover.

R9 Tough’s Back Cover

Cherry Mobile phone also offers new services such as Cherry Shop, Cherry Mail and Cherry Messenger. Cherry shop acts like the App store — You can download Apps, Games and Wallpapers for your cherry phone. Cherry Mail is Cherry Mobile’s email client for cherry phones while Cherry Messenger acts like a BBM of Blackberry and I heard they’re working on the data plans.

R7 Vigor

The phone is tough but the price is not that tough on the pocket. R7 Vigor has a SRP of PHP 1,999.00 while the R9 tough has a SRP of PHP 2,399.00. It is available in different colors. I believe that these prices are cheap for a shockproof phone.

Nokia Philippines

Here’s interesting news. Nokia has taken the title of being the Top brand in the Philippines. Nokia bested other top brands such as Nescafe, Lucky Me and Jollibee, among others according to Nielsen.

According to the survey, Nokia is the dominant market leader in the country, besting other top brands that are mostly categorized as Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)

It is very interesting to see that a cellphone manufacturer bested other manufacturers producing food and drinks which are very essential in our lives.
One thousand respondents in randomly selected urban areas nationwide were asked through a face-to-face interview which one (1) brand of a specific product category they consider as their favorite brand. The ranking was then determined through the number of respondents who chose the brand.

The other brand giants that made it in Nielsen’s Top 10 brands list were Nescafe, Lucky Me, Energizer, Jollibee, Selecta, C2, Gatorade, Cobra, and SM Malls.

Yes, A smartphone has shot this music video, not a professional video camera nor a DSLR. Well, it is kinda surprising to see that they used a Smartphone for a music video. Hopefully in the future, DSLR will be replaced by Smartphones.

Stuck in a traffic?. Looking for an alternative way?. Worry no more. Interaksyon.com has been working with MMDA to bring you the latest traffic updates around the metro. The site shows the current traffic situation. Unfortunately, it is only available as a web app. I hope they can make an Android and iOS app for that.

You can also share and tweet the current situation, just click the place you want to share then click share. You can choose three different views. My favorite view is Google Map view. The other 2 views are  Line view and system view. Metro Manila Navigator is made in HTML 5 and it renders and loads well on our phone.

Check it out here: http://mmdatraffic.interaksyon.com/system-view.php

Looking good eh?

Good news for blogger.com users!. Google finally rolled out the minimalistic UI for Blogger which was announced a few months ago. After Google+ and the Preview (Dense) theme at Gmail they finally rolled out the new UI. I like the new UI, it reminds of Gmail’s preview (dense) theme.

Note: you have to be on http://draft.blogger.com in order to see the new UI

Is this the year of Sony Ericsson… or not?

0
Screen shot 2011 02 19 at 4.05.15 PM
Screen shot 2011 02 19 at 4.05.15 PM

Back at CES last January, Sony Ericsson announced the sexy and slim Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, which was highly received. Their latest smartphones are equipped with the Android Gingerbread. They decided to dump Symbian OS in favor of Android. I think that’s a good move for Sony Ericsson since Android has been getting the popularity nowadays while Symbian is declining

After the announcement of those phones a few months later they announced the first Playstation-certified phone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, A phone with a slide-out gamepad. It received a lot mixed reviews and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc remains as their Flagship phone.
After those Android Phones, they released a new touchscreen Walkman phone along with 2 cheap phones aim for fast messaging. I think they want to target the youth with those phones. They also released the successor of the two mini Android Phones. The two successors are called Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro. They didn’t call the phone Xperia Mini 2 or Mini pro 2 but they just ditched the X10 name on it.
The two latest phones that they announced are Xperia Ray and Xperia Active. Xperia Ray fills the gap between the High-end Android phones and the mini ones while Xperia Active is rugged proof, dustproof and waterproof. Maria Sharapova just love that phone.
Xperia phones have flooded the Android phone industry, which means we have a lot of phones to choose from. But something hinders Sony Ericsson. The thing is, Sony Ericsson phones are too pricey. Xperia Arc lies on the same price range with the Samsung Galaxy S II that has a Dual Core processor, Super AMOLED and 1080p video recording. Sony Ericsson still needs to catch up with those hardware specs and they should lower the prices to attract more consumer.
Since Philippines is a Nokia/Symbian-loving country, Sony Ericsson Philippines should consider some promotion and some marketing strategy to promote their line of phones. And please, make it CHEAPER.
Oh and I’ve been thinking of saving up some money for Exmor-R loving Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc since I want a phone with cool camera w/ HD capabilities, an enormous screen and an Android OS (I want that Google+ and Blogger app so badly)
I hope you can hear out some of my suggestions Sony Ericsson Philippines
