Last tuesday, I was invited to watch the advance screening of Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon and along with the advance screening, I was able to get a hands-on of the music monster phone of Nokia, The Nokia X7
First of all I want to thank Nokia Philippines especially Nikka & Ronald for the advance screening and for the Nokia X7 hands-on 🙂
Nokia X7 has a bigger screen compared to the current flagship, the Nokia N8 and the same screen size with the Nokia E7. Even though it has a 4.0″ screen, it still has the same 640 x 360 resolution. Oh I forgot that this one uses the AMOLED screen w/ Clearblack feature in it. I felt that the Nokia E7 was better to hold than the Nokia X7 but Nokia X7 has a thinner and sleeker metal body. I like the design but I just don’t like it when it is in my hands, I felt that it will slip on my hand easily.
The Sim Card slot for the Nokia X7
The speaker was so loud yet clear (that’s why it is categorized as a multimedia phone). One of the best speakers in a phone that I’ve got to played with. It also features the USB-on-the-go which can be found on the Nokia E7 too and the same 8 Megapixel fixed-focus camera. Yeah, it is a bit disappointing to see that autofocus can’t be found in here.
The Nokia X7
Nokia X7’s Metal Back
It still has the same ARM 11 680 MHz and GPU that was use on the other Symbian^3 phones but this one uses Symbian Anna, an updated version of Symbian^3. Symbian Anna will also come to the older Symbian^3 phones. Symbian Anna features a better browser. I tried opening a lot of apps (I think that was 3 apps including Galaxy On Fire) and then browse the web. And yeah, the browser loads my blog fast. The thing that I don’t like here is the lack of Adobe Flash 10 support. But I was disappointed with the pinch-to-zoom feature in gallery, It took me some time before that feature work.

Asphalt 5 HD and Galaxy on Fire HD is included when you buy a Nokia X7 (both games = addicting). OVI maps and check-ins for some social networks are the things that I like about this phone. With Ovi store inside, you can download more apps and games that you like.
Galaxy On Fire HD on the Nokia X7
Multi-tasking on the Nokia X7
All in all, I still like the Nokia X7’s sleek body and feature. It is a great multimedia phone but the aging Symbian OS is bringing it down. Symbian has fewer apps and games compared to Android and iOS. The 680 MHz processor is also too low when it comes to numbers but Symbian manages apps and games well so don’t worry about that one, and you can even record and playback 720p videos. The 4.0″ AMOLED screen w/ Clearblack Display is great when watching your favorite videos and playing my favorite game, Angry Birds (you can download it on the OVI store, oh and do check out jam online on OVI store too!)
Nokia received a lot of beating when the S60v5 or simply called as the Symbian^1 was released. The popularity of the Symbian devices also faded when the iOS device was released, followed by Android. Many people believed that Android and iOS was superior than Symbian
The Symbian^3

When Symbian^3 was announced and released many people were disappointed with the new features and they feel that Symbian^3 still lacks something. As the time goes on many Symbian users had switched to Android.
Nokia C2-03 offers a keypad and a touchscreen
This 2011, Nokia has a chance to make a comeback. With new phones that they announced with a new OS and some affordable phones which offers what people demand nowadays.
Is Nokia coming back?
I think so, With their new Flagship phone The Nokia N9, Nokia can get their throne back. Thanks to their newest OS, Meego. Too bad they’re not keeping Meego for so long but Nokia may reconsider that if Meego became popular and a hit.
Windows Phone 7 is also on track this year with its mass production next year. Nokia is betting their future on Windows Phone 7, The OS that has simple UI but with great features. I think WP7 is great but it still lacks some popularity. It only has a fraction of users compared to Android and iOS.
Will WP7 saved Nokia?. Well, Time will tell us. Let’s just wait for that Nokia ‘Sea Ray’ and see how will things turn out
Facebook games played a big role to the popularity of Facebook in the Philippines. Many people just sign up to Facebook just to play games exclusive in Facebook. Thanks to Farmville, people got addicted to it so much (including me). And now, EA will be bringing the popular PC game to Facebook, The Sims.
I don’t know how the game works, But I think whatever you’ll do and connect in Facebook will affect the game
In a conference with Nokia CEO Stephen Elop. He unveiled the Nokia Windows Phone codenamed “Sea Ray”. Well, it’s really funny because Elop said “put away all cameras, turn off all recording equipment, we do not want to see this on the blogosphere”. LOL
Nokia announced their newest Meego phone at Nokia Connections 2011 in Singapore, the Nokia N9 (sorry WP7 fans but don’t worry Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said that a WP7 will be announced this year and will be available in 2012). This unibody phone will be using a A-8 Cortex 1 GHz processor and not the usual ARM11 processors which was used in Symbian Phones
Nokia N9 is the newest part of the family high end series of Nokia Phones equipped with Meego, the OS that Nokia CEO Stephen Elop scrapped for the sake of Windows Phone 7. Nokia N9 is a unibody and the first buttonless cellphone. It means that those home keys is replaced by a simple gesture: a swipe.
Nokia N9 features a 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss autofocus sensor wide-angle lens, HD-quality video capture and large lens aperture enable great camera performance even in lowlighting conditions. I don’t know why they didn’t choose the 12 megapixel camera which was present in Nokia N8. It has a free turn by turn and walk navigation with voice guidance in Maps.
Fitted with the latest in wireless technology, Near Field Communication (NFC), the Nokia N9 allows you to easily share images and videos between devices by touching them together. Pair it with Bluetooth accessories like the new NFC-enabled Nokia Play 360° wireless music speaker only once, and you get a great surround sound music experience with just a tap.
The Nokia N9 will be available in three colors – black, cyan, and magenta with storage options to accommodate plenty of content: 16GB and 64GB. The Nokia N9 is scheduled to be in stores later this year, with availability and local pricing to be announced closer to the sales start
I’m really excited about this one since this will be Nokia’s first Meego device. Let’s see if Meego can really compete in the Mobile OS market
3 new C2 variants was introduced at Nokia Connections 2011 in Singapore – the Nokia C2-02, Nokia C2-03 and Nokia C2-06. All of them use a keypad and a touchscreen. There may be some little difference with those variants like the dual sim feature on the Nokia C2-03 but all of them are affordable for everyone
Nokia C2-02 is a single sim version while the Nokia C2-03 is the third Dual SIM phone by Nokia (The first two Dual sim phones by Nokia are Nokia X1-01 and Nokia C2-00 which I blogged about a few days ago). It also comes with Nokia’s unique Dual SIM capabilities like allowing user to personalize up to five SIM cards with a dedicated look and feel and the Easy swap option (which can be found on the Nokia C2-00 as well) that lets users change their SIM Cards without having to turn off their cellphone. The last phone, Nokia C2-06 comes in a range of fresh colors with a clean, smooth finish
Nokia C2-06
All of these phones ship with the new Nokia Maps for S40, where local maps and places of interest pre-installed on the phone. It means that users can view maps and plan routes even when the phone is not connected to the GPRS.
These three phones has Nokia Browser too. It is almost similar to Opera Mini, Both browsers compress their data which keeps the costs of surfing low and speeds up pages.
These 3 variants packs a FM radio, Media player, expandable memory up to 32 GB. The estimated retail price of the Nokia C2-02 and C2-03 is approximately USD 105 (around PHP4700) and for the Nokia C2-06 it is USD 112 (around PHP5000). All of the devices are expected to hit the market in the third quarter of 2011.
The stylish C2-03
Nokia has made a great affordable phone that caters what the people wanted, a featurephone which has a touch screen feature with an affordable price. This phone may take some numbers from Samsung’s affordable touchscreen phones in the market.
As we all know, Sony Ericsson sells phone which has outdated hardware. Just like the new Xperia Family. When the Dual-core became a hit, Sony Ericsson preferred a single core 1 GHz processor and a Adreno 205 GPU for all of its Xperia Phones
There are only a few information about the Xperia Duo. The only thing we know is that this phone will have a dual core processor and a much bigger screen than the current flagship, the Xperia Arc. I don’t know if Nvidia Tegra 2 will be inside this baby, but Tegra 2 is popular nowadays so Sony Ericsson might think of switching to Tegra 2
I hope that this phone will be released soon with a reasonable price.
So here’s the gameplay of the upcoming shooter game by EA, Battlefield 3. It was shown during Late night with Jimmy Fallon. It will be release on October 25 this year
This is a little odd. Nokia’s Manager of marketing in Argentina tweeted about a S40 Phone that will be equipped with a 1 Ghz processor. The phone is said that it will feature a Capacitive touchscreen with clearblack display, QWERTY keyboard, 3G, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, 512 mb RAM and a store for apps and games
I don’t know what Nokia is thinking right now. A featurephone with a 1GHz processor?, I don’t know what will they use it for. Anyway, Nokia Connections 2011 is near so we may just have to wait
