AMD Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X Launched, Beats i7-7700K for Only Php 7k

Entry-level desktop processors don’t usually get enough limelight as it doesn’t attract enthusiasts despite being “back for the buck.” However, AMD’s latest Ryzen 3 processors changes the landscape thanks to its 7-nanometer process node. While we already have the Ryzen 3 3200G and Ryzen 5 3400G, these processors are still based on the old architecture and are essentially refined Ryzen 3 2200G and 2400G but with better-integrated graphics.  The Ryzen 3100 and 3300X are the true mainstream successors from the previous generation as they feature AMD’s 7nm architecture.

Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X Spec Table

Processor MSRP Cores / Threads Base / Boost Clock (GHz) L3 Cache (MB) TDP (W)
Ryzen 3 3300X  ₱7,000 4 / 8 3.8 / 4.3 16 65
Ryzen 3 3100  ₱6,000 4 / 8 3.8 / 3.9 16 65
Ryzen 3 2300X N/A 4 / 4 3.5 / 4.0 8 65
Ryzen 3 3200G ₱5,160 4 / 4 3.6 / 4.0 4 65
Ryzen 5 3400G ₱8,120 4 / 8  3.7 / 4.3 4 65

Yes, the Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X are priced at Php 6,000 and Php 7,000 respectively. AMD’s new Ryzen 3 7nm processors are strategically priced between the Ryzen 3 3200G and Ryzen 5 3400G to fill up every price point possible. AMD’s competitive pricing allows consumers to have more options that will suit their budget.

Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X Difference

Looking at the plain spec sheet shows only a clock speed difference between the two Ryzen 3 processors. However, the main difference between the two lies underneath their dies. The Ryzen 3 3100 uses a 2+2 CCX configuration inside a CCD while the more powerful Ryzen 3 3300X uses a 4+0 CCX configuration. Having all four cores in a single CCX benefits the Ryzen 3 3300X because the cores don’t suffer a heavy “core-to-core” latency produced by an X+X CCX configuration.

While we don’t have our hands on AMD’s latest offering, reviews are now up and running on various websites. Most benchmarks show the Ryzen 3 3300X performing within the same margin as the Intel Core i7 7700k and the Ryzen 3 3100 stacking up against the i7 6700K. The Ryzen 3 series compete with Intel’s latest 9th generation Core i3 processors with the 3300X matching the i5 9400F in terms of core count. Both Ryzen 3 Processors are significantly cheaper than the rest of the CPUs mentioned even at second-hand prices.

Both the Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X are overclockable and will work on the latest AMD B550 and X570 Chipset. The Ryzen 3 7-nanometer processors should be available in the Philippines by Q2 2020.
