In an ongoing collaboration for the third consecutive year, Smart Communications, Inc. has partnered with McDonald’s Philippines to support the “Night Classroom” project. With a goal to create a safe and conducive learning environment beyond traditional school hours, the initiative offers students access to free WiFi in 60 participating McDonald’s stores nationwide.

Expanding the McDonald’s Classroom initiative

Building upon the success of the McDonald’s Classroom initiative launched in 2020, McDonald’s Philippines has adapted the project to cater to students seeking a secure and suitable space for completing homework, reviewing lessons, and conducting online research outside regular school hours. The McDonald’s Night Classroom also serves as an extension of the McDonald’s Classroom, converting approximately 250 unused party rooms into convenient study areas for both teachers and students.

Seamless online learning experience

In support of this pioneering project, Smart has provided complimentary WiFi access through Smart WiFi installations in McDonald’s stores, as well as Smart Bro Pocket WiFi units in other participating venues. By leveraging Smart’s unparalleled network, Night Classroom participants can enjoy a seamless online learning experience, benefitting from ultra-fast internet speeds and stable connections. Recognized by Ookla, the global leader in mobile and network broadband intelligence, Smart boasts the fastest and best mobile network in the Philippines.

Empowering over 40,000 Night Classroom participants

Meanwhile, since its launch on March 28, the McDonald’s Night Classroom project has significantly impacted the lives of more than 40,000 participants across 60 McDonald’s branches nationwide. This initiative has also provided a safe and conducive environment for teachers and students, ensuring uninterrupted work and study sessions. Participants can effortlessly access the internet, upload and download files within seconds, browse the web for information instantly, and stream instructional videos without buffering.

Partnership for accessible education

Oliver Rabatan, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Philippines, expressed their commitment to supporting students with their schoolwork and creating a trusted space for them. Rabatan highlighted how McDonald’s has become a go-to location for meetings and study sessions, making the McDonald’s Night Classroom an extension of its dedication to student success.

Meanwhile, Anton Agustin, Smart’s AVP and Head for Consumer WiFi & Mobile Advertising, emphasized the importance of mobile technology in making education more accessible. Smart and McDonald’s partnership aims to establish connected and safe learning spaces, enabling students and teachers to achieve academic excellence. With free WiFi access provided at McDonald’s Night Classrooms nationwide, students can engage in uninterrupted work and study sessions.
